Ubisoft’s new free-to-play first-person shooter, XDefiant, just released on the 21st of May for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. This casual free-to-play shooter brings together locations and factions from various Ubisoft franchises, such as Tom Clancy, Far Cry, Watch Dogs, and more.
Players can choose from five factions at launch, with more coming in via different seasons later on. These factions currently include Libertad from Far Cry, Echelon from Splinter Cell, Phantoms from Ghost Recon, DedSec from Watch Dogs, and Cleaners from The Division.
XDefiant Doesn’t Have a Platinum Trophy for PS5
XDefiant has more than a few things in common with classic Call of Duty games.
One major disappointment for PlayStation 5 users has been that XDefiant will not feature a Platinum trophy. Most PS5 games include this achievement, which is a reward for getting all the other trophies in the game, but XDefiant lacks in this department.

If Criterion24/7 hasn’t completely colonized your attention every time you open the Channel––this is to say: if you’re stronger than me––their May lineup may be of interest. First and foremost I’m happy to see a Michael Roemer triple-feature: his superlative Nothing But a Man, arriving in a Criterion Edition, and the recently rediscovered The Plot Against Harry and Vengeance is Mine, three distinct features that suggest a long-lost voice of American movies. Meanwhile, Nobuhiko Obayashi’s Antiwar Trilogy four by Sara Driver, and a wide collection from Ayoka Chenzira fill out the auteurist sets.
Series-wise, a highlight of 1999 goes beyond the well-established canon with films like Trick and Bye Bye Africa, while of course including Sofia Coppola, Michael Mann, Scorsese, and Claire Denis. Films starring Shirley Maclaine, a study of 1960s paranoia, and Columbia’s “golden era” (read: 1950-1961) are curated; meanwhile, The Breaking Ice,...

The Emily Osment-starring multi-camera comedy Pretty Smart will not be returning to Netflix for a second season, according to TVLine. Created by Jack Dolgen and Doug Mand, the series revolves around Chelsea (Osment), a Harvard-educated, aspiring novelist who moves in with her bubbly and not-so-intellectual sister Claire (Olivia Macklin) after being dumped by her boyfriend. The tough and sometimes stand-offish Chelsea soon finds herself dealing with her carefree sister and her three lovably eccentric roommates. In addition to Osment and Macklin, the cast also included Gregg Sulkin (Faking It) as the distractingly handsome personal trainer Grant, Cinthya Carmona (Greenhouse Academy) as former lawyer turned healer Solana, and Michael Hsu Rosen (Tiny Pretty Things) as social media influencer Jayden. Osment started out as a child actress, co-starring as Gerti Giggles in the Spy Kids sequel movies. She is perhaps best known for playing Lilly Truscott in the Disney Channel television series Hannah Montana.

The Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) will be an online-only event for its fourth edition, which will take place later this month.
The Festival originally intended to be an in-person event and even announced its selection for the event, which was initially scheduled to take place in December, 2020. However, Covid regulations in Malaysia were made stricter in November, which caused cinemas countrywide to close down and made the event impossible. With the regulations showing no signs of easing yet, organisers have been forced to move the event into the digital space and make it an online-only event.
The festival is now scheduled to be held from January 15th-21st on the streaming platform Mubi. The audiences in Malaysia can stream the selection free of cost by taking advantage of Mubi’s extended 30-days free trial subscription. Joanne Goh, the festival chairperson, together with actor Bront Palarae made the announcement at the 4th MIFFest Gala Night.

The fourth edition of the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) is now set to be held later this month as an online-only event.
The festival was originally scheduled to take place as an in-person event in December and got as far as announcing its selection. However, Malaysia’s coronavirus control measures were increased at the beginning of November, causing cinemas across much of the country to close.
Miffest organizers said in November that they hoped to be still able to put on a real-world festival in January when cinemas reopened. But with the virus still hitting cinema operations that is no longer a viable option.
Instead, the festival will now be held Jan. 15-21, playing out on streaming platform Mubi. Audiences in Malaysia can stream the selection free of charge through an extended 30-day trial subscription to Mubi.

Superman & Lois has officially found its Lana Lang in Emmanuelle Chriqui.
The CW’s developing Supergirl spinoff, Superman & Lois, has cast Canadian actress Chriqui as a series regular, set to play the classic Superman comic book presence and frequent live-action-adapted character for the small screen Arrowverse shows, reports Deadline. The main cast role will see her join Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch, who co-star as the titular couple.
Chriqui will portray a version of the character, named Lana Lang-Cushing, who’s described as “the loan officer at Smallville Bank who stayed in Smallville when others left for something bigger and brighter. Lana reestablishes her friendship with her old friend, Clark Kent, during one of the most difficult periods in her life.”
Of course, the addition of Lana to the mix implies a major component to the series dynamic, since she is famously known as the first love of...
