Kevin James, Benjamin Pajak, Banks Pierce, and Alan Ritchson in Playdate (2025)
A routine playdate between suburban dads turns into an explosive thrill ride in 'Playdate,' the new action-comedy that pairs unlikely duo Kevin James and Alan Ritchson. In the first trailer for the Prime Video movie, an ordinary afternoon spirals into chaos when James's hapless accountant and Ritchson's mysteriously skilled stay-at-home dad find themselves targeted by professional hitmen, leading to some outrageous action sequences involving everything from minivan chases to playground warfare.

Alan Ritchson, who rocketed to stardom as the lead in Prime Video's hit series "Reacher," brings his action hero physicality to the comedy genre, while Kevin James ("King of Queens," 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop') returns to his everyman comedy roots. The film is helmed by Luke Greenfield, known for directing action-comedy hybrid 'Let's Be Cops' and 'The Girl Next Door,' and features a supporting cast including Isla Fisher ('Wedding Crashers') and Sarah Chalke ("Scrubs").

'Playdate' premieres on Prime Video globally on November 12, 2025.

Worth a watch if your not too serious a person!

Great humor and action! Alan Ritchson is an I'm underrated actor and I hope to see him in more movies! Way better actor and a great comedian than Channing Tatum and John Cena!!! He could have been a better Thorbin my opinion. Great one time movie that's fun, storyline ending is not the best but if you don't take comedies too serious then you'll like it.

    Surprisingly funny

This is why comedies aren't made anymore because when they do make a good one people just hate on it. It has dark humor, which we never get to see anymore. I can't stand Kevin James but I liked him much better as the straight man. Alan Ritchson killed it. They actually worked well together. I was scream laughing when he fought the kid at the park. I did not expect anything and really enjoyed it. People are so bitter and miserable all they do is go online hating on every book, game, movie, show, recipe or video. Look how bad cult classics did at first every time. Don't listen to the immediate bad reviews, they are seldom right.

When Silly Works Better Than Expected

Sometimes you sit down to watch a movie that clearly isn't going to change your life... and somehow you end up laughing more than you thought you would. That's exactly what happened to me with Playdate. It's not smart, it's not original, and it's definitely not aiming high, but there's something in its clumsy charm that ends up being genuinely fun. Maybe it's the mix of goofy action, ridiculous situations, and a cast that looks like they're just having a good time.

I mainly watched it because Alan Ritchson is in it, and honestly, he surprised me. He has a natural comedic timing that doesn't feel forced. That big-kid energy he has -half brute, half puppy- works surprisingly well here. The movie relies on that vibe more than anything else: when he's on screen, things flow; when he's not, the weaknesses show more clearly.

The humor is simple. Very simple. The kind that makes you ask yourself, "Why am I laughing at this?"... right before you laugh again. But hey, in a comedy like this, getting real laughs already counts as a win. It never pretends to be clever or groundbreaking; it just wants to entertain for a while, and that honesty helps.

Technically, it's nothing to brag about. The script is bare bones, the action scenes run on autopilot, and some moments feel so out of nowhere that they might as well have been improvised. But because the film never asks you to take it seriously, you end up forgiving a lot. There are comedies that try so hard to be sharp that they become painful -this one at least knows exactly what lane it's in.

I won't remember it next week, and I doubt anyone will. But during its runtime, it gave me a handful of genuine laughs, and that's more than what many "bigger" comedies manage nowadays. Sometimes a silly movie is all you need.

    Who knew.

Well it is definitive Alan Ritchson can do comedy.

I feel the movie made poor use of an amazing cast but end of the day, it was funny and kept my attention for the whole movie which is pretty unusual for modern movies.

Ritchson utterly carried this this movie, with brief moments with other actors which acted the best they could with a limited script, but they were all funny.

    Worth watching.

    Fun enough streaming movie

Playdate (2025) is an action buddy comedy movie on Prime Video and it follows a stay-at-home dad accepting a playdate invitation from another stay-at-home dad who turns out to be a loose cannon. I just got done watching the movie and it was really fun.

Positives for Playdate (2025): This movie is exactly what you're getting from a streaming movie. Alan Ritchson and Kevin James are a fun duo and they bounce off each other very well. The comedy and action is done very well. The movie moves at quick pace that is easy to keep up with. And finally, this is a good hangout movie to watch at home on the weekend.

Negatives for Playdate (2025): This movie has a basic enough story that is predictable from the start. The villains aren't interesting and they're not cartoonish. The movie is also basically background noise for other activities that you could be doing. And finally, the movie doesn't have any standout moments to make it memorable.

Overall, Playdate (2025) is a fun enough but standard streaming action comedy movie that gets the job done.
