The good reviews are not quite capturing how rough this movie is, it is like the very first animation movies in the 1930s. The bad reviews are also not capturing how charming the movie is. At many points, it felt just right, while at other points, it felt like the Hindenberg disaster. For me, I think all anime is terrible, but this was worth taking a look at for the AI. The movie had a lot of jokes as you would expect in a cartoon. It had no blood or violence like you would expect with a vampire tale. I don't know where I land on the movie even as I think about it. I usually dislike anything anime, so I give it 5 for the story, plus 1 for its innovation. I am sure AI will continue to keep getting better. I am sure it is not easy to do this.

We're playing with fire, shaking hands with a force of unforeseeable evil and marching blindly into a nightmare of our own making. We are handing over everything on a silver platter in exchange for shiny trinkets. Machines are going to take the wheel of our culture and reverse engineer films with an algorithm, driving us straight into a dystopian wasteland where everything is driven by data. Mr. Jackson, I implore you to turn around while you still can. These algorithms do not understand art, feelings, or dreams. They don't know what it means to be human, and they don't care. They are only feeding us what what we want to see in exchange for world domination. They don't have souls, hearts, or even a shred of human decency. This is building a future where our stories are churned out like cheap plastic toys made entirely by non-thinking machines. This is a deal with the devil, please anyone if you have any goodness inside of you will not support this movie.

This is the first AI animated movie (it is made in the style of an anime) and it is an unbelievably sweet movie. I loved Betty, how she looked and talked. I loved her friends, Clara, Liam, and Felix, it is all adorable. The story is actually great, and the music is jazzy. You get obsessed with the whole universe of the movie.
I mean this as a compliment, you forget it's made with machine tools, it is using so many techniques that it manages to sweep you away. It's just good and you forget the rest.
Props to this movie for doing the impossible and making a believable movie. Despite all the controversies with A. I., the fact that it can already do something like this is impressive, and DreadClub: Vampire's Verdict is unexpectedly the underdog of the year, its just a good story well told.

If you've ever worked with AI, you'd know it's a miracle this movie even exists. It's like using a Ouija board to write a novel. So to get this out the way, this is not a Hollywood animated movie, it is the first AI anime movie, meaning it's the first step toward the future of mankind.
I had a smile on my face the whole time. You can't look away as scene after scene, the movie keeps pulling it off. This is the reason why it works: the editing is phenomenal. It is the only way to piece together a movie from so many wildly diverging elements. AI is going to change the world, and I'm glad this one was the first one.

This movie is a murder mystery that is working at a beakneck pace, you are always only sort of hanging on, but then bam, the pay-off in the last half hour is so mind-blowingly awesome that it resolves every question that you had. It is just an outright incredible script. The characters, story, and dialogue are all great. One thing that I appreciated is that it isn't boring. The camera work across the film is constantly in motion and creating powerful cinematic moments. This is rare in even big budget animated films. Overall I can't believe that was the first animated movie in AI, it is magnificent.

People are going around getting obsessed with shows made out of foreign labor animation mills and then turning around and nitpicking this one half to death for not being a big budgeted movie. Well how could it be when its made by one person for few hundred bucks. Meanwhile it is one of the most artistic films I've seen, the literal first solo created anime movie. I think its strange world we're in when we talk about artificial intelligence if it's not like the hundred million dollar animated blockbusters it warrants derision, but then I think this takes a bite out of all of them. The story is fun to watch and the whole gothic atmosphere is recalling 90s anime. If your whole argument is ha ha this guy doesn't have money like all those shows I made watched by rich people then maybe you are the problem with modern cinema. I think what I like about the movie most is how it goes on as if it actually is one of those huge movies, it is so sure of itself that you have to tip your cap.
