A Biopic and American History
Sarah Rector was given 160 acres of land in Oklahoma Indian Territory in the early 1900s as compensation for her ancestry. Believed to be barren and useless by everyone, she believed otherwise. She set out to discover the oil flowing below, finding friends and foes along the way.
An excellent biopic about a little girl who believed in herself when no one else did, during a time in American history that barely treated her, her family, and community with respect or dignity. The story shares the history of the Midwest, including the oil boom, the basics of oil drilling, the racial relations of that period, and Sarah's faith. The one hour and forty-three minute runtime is sufficient to share Sarah's story. A great historical watch for both children and adults.

Fantastic watch
This movie was fantastic! Great story, great directing, fun but serious and heart warming, with a wonderful cast. These actors made such a great team. They all just played off of each other so well. I saw a special screening of this in the middle of the week before it's release and was so glad I did, it did not disappoint. I truly appreciated this movie and hope it gets the recognition it deserves. Kudos to everyone involved in this film.
Fun movie for whole family
Zachary Levi plays a charming hustler with heart and integrity. Naya Desir-Johnson is a precocious young girl who is as quick witted as Anne of Green Gables. I definitely think this family friendly story is worth 1hr 44 minutes of your time, whether in a theater or at home. You'll get a history lesson on top of being entertained. Here is a summary I found... "The story behind Sarah's Oil is the true story of Sarah Rector, an African American girl in Oklahoma Territory who became one of the nation's youngest millionaires at age 11. Born in 1902, she inherited a 160-acre parcel of land that, while appearing worthless, turned out to be rich in oil. The discovery brought challenges as others tried to take control of her land, but Rector fought back and maintained ownership, becoming known as the "Richest Colored Girl in the World"." I'm sure a quick Google search will flesh out the real events vs the artist license. The rest of the cast does a good job rounding out the story and keeping up suspense in this David and Goliath type story. I wouldn't mind a film about the rest of this Sarah Rector's life as she ended up rubbing elbows with the rich, powerful and famous. It's well paced, doesn't look low budget or come off hokie.
Poignant
I've seen it twice already and plan on seeing it many more times! So many subtle nuances. So many In depth undertones. Wowed by the emotional grip. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾. The personal aspects of American culture is what makes the story so compelling for me. I've lived for 52 years as a Sovereign American and I've learned and I'm still learning what it is to be me in our progressive Union.
Authentic
A story that helped me see what it means to embrace my own authentic identity, to acknowledge and act on my own worth. Engaging storyline. Entertaining presentation. Perfect pace to keep my attention. Superb acting by absolutely everyone, they even found a solid child-actor for the lead. Excellent writing with a solid plot, firmly anchored in history. Genuinely well-done!
