The dreaded deep cuts on CBS’ series slate are starting with two high-profile cancellations. The network is not renewing the FBI spinoffs FBI: Most Wanted, which will be ending after six seasons, and FBI: International, canceled after four seasons. Both Wolf Entertainment/Universal television series are headlined by big stars, Dylan McDermott (Most Wanted) and Jesse Lee Soffer (International), who moved to the offshoots from other Dick Wolf shows, Law & Order: Organized Crime and Chicago P.D., respectively.
The cancellations leave the highly rated mothership FBI, now in its seventh season and Year 1 of a three-year pickup, and potential new offshoot FBI: CIA, now in development at CBS. The axing of Most Wanted and International boosts FBI: CIA’s chances. A planted spinoff set to air as an episode of the mothership series, FBI: CIA is currently casting with several actors in negotiations. Based on the talent that gets attached,...

“FBI: Most Wanted” and “FBI: International” will not return to CBS after their current sixth and fourth seasons, respectively, come to an end.
The flagship of the Dick Wolf CBS trio, “FBI,” kicked off in 2018. Last April, it landed a three-season renewal which will keep it on the air through Season 9 into the 2026-2027 broadcast season.
“FBI: Most Wanted” was the first “FBI” spinoff, which debuted in January 2020 and was originally led by Julian McMahon, Kellan Lutz, Keisha Castle-Hughes and Nathanial Arcand. Dylan McDermott took over as the lead after McMahon left at the end of Season 3. The series has won its timeslot in every episode this season.
The second spinoff, “FBI: International,” launched in September 2021, with cast members Luke Kleintank, Heida Reed, Carter Redwood, Vinessa Vidotto and Christiane Paul. At the end of Season 3, Jesse Lee Soffer took over the lead role when Kleintank exited. “International” often wins its...

To pilot or not to pilot has been a question broadcast networks have been asking themselves for more than a decade and are increasingly answering ‘no’ to, especially when it comes to the traditional pilot season in the months leading to the May upfronts. We haven’t gotten a single pilot order in 2025 so far. While that is about to change with a handful of orders coming up, the pilot drought has been persistent amid an industry contraction and linear viewing decline, especially as the networks are still dealing with the backlog caused by strike-related delays.
Broadcasters these days often opt for economically efficient planted spinoffs that shoot as regular episodes of existing drama and comedy series or for development rooms and straight-to-series orders, primarily on the drama side. That is ironic because most of the biggest new drama hits of the last two seasons, CBS’ Tracker and Matlock and ABC’s High Potential,...

After a rough few years in the broadcast landscape, the 2024-25 season has brought in some rays of hope.
To be sure, the long-term structural challenges for network TV remain in a world where streaming is the default platform for the largest share of viewers and ongoing corporate consolidation continues to shrink the number of potential suppliers (and buyers) of shows. But several network shows have achieved breakout status in the past year, and each of the big four broadcasters (ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC) can claim at least one success story among their crop of first-year series. The fact that networks are also the primary suppliers of the long-running, deep-library shows that keep streaming services humming also seems to have sunk in across the industry.
About that corporate consolidation: The past year has continued the trend of media company reorganization. Both Paramount and Disney closed studios (Paramount TV Studios...

The 2025-26 CBS season is looking so packed, it's no wonder some shows are worried about renewals!
We're closing in on spring, which means the time of year TV networks start prepping for the fall season. As always, there's a worry about shows "on the bubble" while others are safer.
CBS just did a mass renewal, so we know the NCIS shows are okay, along with Fire Country, Elsbeth, and several comedies. However, there are still several shows whose fates are up in the air as Deadline reports.
Tops among them are The Equalizer, FBI: International, FBI: Most Wanted and Swat. There's also the freshman drama Watson, not to mention the various reality TV shows. Some face bigger challenges than others besides just ratings.
The Equalizer, for instance, comes from an outside studio, Universal, meaning Paramount doesn't own it. They have to license it, which adds to costs along with...

Fire Country fans are living good right now. The show was renewed for a fourth season by CBS, in what was probably the least surprising decision on the network's entire slate of shows. The drama has been a ratings titan since it debuted, and has continued to electrify fans between its action and character dynamics.
The show will not be alone, though. 2025-26 will not only yield a new season of Fire Country, but an all new spinoff titled Sheriff Country. The law enforcement is set to debut the 2025-26 season, but CBS seems to like what they have seen thus far. The two shows will run concurrently on CBS, which means Country is officially a franchise.

Fire Country is roaring on CBS, but is it going to get a fourth season? CBS just gave us the answer!
Fire Country was one of CBS’s instant hits when it debuted in 2022. The drama about a camp of convicts helping California firefighters to commute their sentences has captivated audiences and has been a success on Friday nights. That easily earned it a second-season renewal early in its first year.
Season 2, like all CBS shows, was affected by the 2023 Hollywood strikes. It didn't premiere until February 2024 and was cut down to just 10 episodes. That was still successful, with Season 3 ongoing.
It's great news about Fire Country season 4
Now, as part of a huge wave of renewal news, CBS has confirmed that Fire Country will come back for Season 4! It’s expected to hit in fall 2025, but it's definitely in the 2025-2026, likely still on Friday nights.

CBS today delivered great news for the fans of some of its biggest scripted series, handing early renewals to all NCIS dramas: flagship NCIS, NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney; as well as Tracker, Fire Country and Elsbeth, alongside comedies Ghosts, which got a two-season pickup, and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. They join previously renewed freshman drama Matlock and the mothership FBI, which has two more seasons on its 3-year deal.
As usual, the news set alarm bells for fans of the series that didn’t make the early renewal list, dramas FBI: Most Wanted, FBI: International, The Equalizer and yes, the twice-canceled S.W.A.T., as well as veteran comedy The Neighborhood and freshman sitcom Poppa’s House. (It’s too early for new drama Watson which just premiered.)
If history — and simple math — is any indication, it is certain that several of the series that were not picked up today won’t be back next season.

CBS‘s lineup for the 2025-2026 season is already coming together. Furthermore, Ghosts was given a two-season pickup, meaning that it will also be back for the 2026-2027 season. CBS is locking in a large portion of its primetime slate for the 2025-26 season — and, in one case, 2026-27 as well.
The network has renewed nine series, including a two-season order for its comedy Ghosts. The pickup will take the show through its sixth season in 2026-27. CBS has also renewed all three NCIS series — the original, NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney — along with Elsbeth, Fire Country, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Hollywood Squares and Tracker for 2025-26.

CBS has handed a two-season renewal to Ghosts, now in its fourth season, taking the single-camera comedy through the 2026-27 season. Additionally, the network has given a Season 2 renewal to breakout freshman multi-camera comedy Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage for 2025-26.

CBS is heading back to the world of Blue Bloods — at least partially.
The network has given a straight-to-series order to a drama titled Boston Blue, which will see Donnie Wahlberg reprising his Blue Bloods role as Danny Reagan. The new show — CBS is calling it a “universe expansion” of Blue Bloods — is set to premiere in the 2025-26 season. It will follow Danny as he leaves New York and takes a position with the Boston police — where he’s partnered with Detective Lena Peters, the daughter of a prominent law enforcement family in the city.
The order for Boston Blue comes two months after Blue Bloods ended a 14-season run on CBS. The series was one of the network’s most watched dramas for most of its run, and Wahlberg (among other castmembers) has said in interviews that he would have happily continued making the original series.

It was probably inevitable that the worlds of FBI and CIA would eventually collide on a TV show from Dick Wolf, the king of crime procedurals. It is happening on FBI: CIA, a planted spinoff from Wolf’s hit CBS drama FBI, which is targeting a potential series order for the 2025-2026 season.
Written by Wolf, FBI: Most Wanted showrunner David Hudgins, Nicole Perlman and former CIA officer David Chasteen, the proposed offshoot will be introduced in an upcoming episode of FBI this season, which will serve as backdoor pilot.
In it, a dedicated, strait-laced FBI agent and a street-smart CIA agent are part of a new, clandestine taskforce charged with solving and preventing domestic terrorism in and around New York City.

Even though Jared Padalecki's Fire Country spinoff might not happen anytime soon, his replacement series is great news for CBS's future. Padalecki had a recurring role as Camden Casey, a firefighter from Southern California who travels to Edgewater to assist in Bode's cadet training, in season 3 of the CBS action drama series. The former Supernatural actor appeared in three episodes before his character returned home. Reports claimed that Padalecki's Fire Country arc would lay the groundwork for a spinoff series revolving around Camden, but recent news suggests otherwise.
CBS officially has one Fire Country spinoff in development — a Sheriff Country spinoff starring Morena Baccarin as Sheriff Mickey Fox (which has been confirmed for the 2025–2026 TV season).
According to Deadline, Padalecki is working on a new TV drama for CBS instead of his reported Fire Country spinoff. The actor previously signed a deal with the network to develop shows.

When Supernatural alum Jared Padalecki guest starred in a three-show storyline on Fire Country during the first half of Season 3, there was a buzz that the stint could turn into a spinoff for the Captain Camden Casey role he was playing.
Now a report has been released with an interesting update that may shock Fire Country fans. Cts has the scoop below.
Fire Country Spinoff Update – Not What Fans Are Expecting
According to Deadline, Padalecki is slated to executive produce and star in a new CBS medical drama. The show is in development on the network and apparently does not conflict with the possible Fire Country spinoff, which has a working title of Fire Country: Surfside.
The medical drama is only in the early stages and has yet to be given CBS’s “okay.” If it does happen, it’ll air after the Sheriff Country spinoff series airs next season.

Jared Padalecki's latest Fire Country problem is concerning, especially since CBS could have prevented it in the first place. Padalecki played Camden Casey, a firefighter who arrived in SoCal to train Bode and his colleague for three episodes in Fire Country season 3. While Camden's role was short-lived in the show, his character's arc was necessary for Bode's growth, as Camden was the one who recognized Bode's talent and helped him graduate from his training program.
Even though Camden left at the end of Fire Country's episode 7, "False Alarm," Jared Padalecki's character has been confirmed as the lead in an upcoming Fire Country spinoff. The story will likely focus on Camden's unresolved trauma regarding the death of his younger brother Patrick, as he revealed he still had "unfinished business" in SoCal before he left. While the idea of a Fire Country spinoff featuring Camden is exciting, the news...

Jared Padalecki has a new CBS pilot set, but does this mean his Fire Country spinoff is dead? Here’s what we know!
Jared Padalecki has been a busy guy on TV in his career. After breaking out as Dean on Gilmore Girls, Padalecki landed his major role of Sam Winchester on the long-running WB/CW series Supernatural. He’d play the role for its epic 15-season run that ended in 2020.
Padalecki jumped right to starring in the CW series Walker, which ended its four-season run in 2024. He wasn’t out of work long as he began a recurring role on CBS’s hit Fire Country.
Now, as the networks get set for pilot season, it looks like Padalecki will be back on TV. Deadline reports that he’ll be starring in the pilot for an as-yet-untitled CBS drama created by Walker showrunner Anna Fricke.

Exclusive: Walker star/executive producer Jared Padalecki has re-teamed with the CW series’ executive producer/showrunner Anna Fricke for a new drama project, which has been set up at CBS for development.
Like Walker, the untitled one-hour takes place in Padalecki’s home state of Texas, but instead of a ranger, he will now play a doctor. Unlike most medical dramas, which take place at big, urban hospitals, the Fricke/Padalecki project spotlights rural medicine, which is rarely seen on TV. It centers on a headstrong, devoted country doctor (Padalecki) who practices his unique style of improvisational medicine alongside his new protégé, a young doctor running from her past, as they operate a mobile clinic and heal the bodies and souls of their underserved community in the medical desert of rural Texas.
Fricke and Laura Terry executive produce through Fricke’s Pursued by a Bear alongside Jared Padalecki, Genevieve Padalecki and Dan Spilo.

The thrilling drama series Fire Country is getting a spinoff, and there are already a ton of exciting updates about the recently announced Sheriff Country. Debuting in late 2022, Fire Country follows prisoner Bode Donovan who joins an unorthodox early-release program that allows him to volunteer as a firefighter in Northern California and work with trained experts to battle massive blazes. With its mix of drama, action, and procedural elements, Fire Country grabbed the attention of viewers during its first season and already has major franchise potential.

CBS has pulled Fire Country from its primetime schedule.
Due to the California fires, CBS wanted to show sensitivity to what had happened.
As Fire Country fans know, the show is about a local man trying to find redemption at his new job with Cal Fire.
Max Thieriot stars as Bode Leone (Donovan), with Billy Burke as his dad, Vince Leone, and Diane Farr as his mom Sharon.
Fire Country also features Stephanie Arcila as Gabriela Perez, Kevin Alejandro as Manny Perez, Jordan Calloway as Jake Crawford, and Jules Latimer as Eve Edwards.
The show often deals with California fires, frequently with those fires encroaching on residences and putting firefighters at risk.
In the latest report, four major fires in Southern California were burning out of control in the Pacific Palisades and Pasadena areas outside Los Angeles.

Jared Padalecki joined the cast of Fire Country for a few episodes in season 3, and an update concerning his future in the series is a bit worrying, especially in regard to his character's reported spinoff. The actor starred as Camden Casey, a firefighter from Southern California, in the third season of the CBS action drama. Camden arrived in Edgewater in Fire Country season 3, episode 5, "Edgewater's About to Get Real Cozy," to train Max Thieriot's Bode Leone and the other cadets during phase three of their program, and Padalecki's character surely left an impression on Bode and the audience.

Exclusive: A trio of former Grey’s Anatomy showrunners are teaming on an ITV period drama that will reimagine the life of a young Elizabeth I in the court of the notorious King Henry VIII.
As the BBC’s high-profile Tudor series Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light amasses solid ratings, Joan Rater, Tony Phelan and William Harper are teaming on Majesty, which is being directed by Mr Bates vs the Post Office helmer James Strong. The show comes from Strong’s nascent Studiocanal-backed indie Strong Film & Television and is being sold by Studiocanal.
Majesty will depict the life of a young Elizabeth I and her place in the court of King Henry VIII. Yet far from being an historical account of Elizabeth’s early years, it will reimagine her life based upon conspiracy theories which surrounded her when she was young. Elizabeth I became Queen a decade after Henry VIII’s death,...

It looks like The Equalizer may be getting a spin-off and we could meet the characters soon!
The Equalizer has had several incarnations. It began as a CBS series in 1985 with Edward Woodward as Robert McCall, a retired spy with a mysterious past who hires himself out to help those in need. He usually specialized in people ignored by the police to find justice on his own terms. The show was a good success, running for four seasons.
The property found bigger fame with a 2014 movie starring Denzel Washington as McCall, which became a huge hit. Sequels would follow in 2018 and 2023 to mark one of Washington’s better franchises.
Queen Latifah is Robyn McCall in The Equalizer on CBS
In 2021, CBS turned its eye to a revival with former rapper Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall, a former black ops operative now trying to live a quiet life in New York.

The Equalizer season 5 is set to introduce new characters for a potential spinoff series, widening the world of Queen Latifah-led crime drama. The Equalizer season 5 has featured some of Robyn McCall's most interesting cases so far, as she continues her activities as a vigilante within New York City. The show has also continued to explore the lives of its side characters and supporting cast, such as Robyn's daughter Delilah (Laya DeLeon Hayes), her partner Marcus Dante (Tory Kittles), and master hacker Harry Keshegian (Adam Goldberg).
Now, Deadline has reported The Equalizer season 5 will feature the introduction of two new characters poised to lead a spinoff to the crime drama series. While casting is ongoing, the characters will be a young girl skilled in martial arts, weaponry, and criminology, and an older man who's a former CIA operative. The duo will be introduced in season 5, episode 16, with the female character going to Robyn for help.

One character, an older male, is reportedly a former CIA operative. The other character, a younger female, is a martial artist with a vast knowledge of weapons and criminology — and a “secret origin story.”
