Yaser Abdel Said was finally arrested on August 27, 2020 after being on the FBIs top ten fugitive list for over 12 years. Also arrested were his son, Islam Said and Yaser's brother, Yassim Said, for harboring a fugitive.
On August 9, 2022, Yaser Said was found guilty of capital murder in the deaths of his two daughters, Amina and Sarah. After six days of testimony, the jury reached a decision within three hours. Judge Chika Anyiam sentenced Said to life imprisonment (prosecutors did not seek the death penalty). His sons, Islam and Yassein, were previously sentenced to 10 and 12 years, respectively, for secreting Said away in a Texas home while he was a wanted fugitive.
