Exclusive: QC Entertainment, the company behind Get Out and BlacKkKlansman, has completed the Victoria, BC shoot on horror film The Casket Girls with four major additions to the cast: Mike Colter (Evil), Raúl Castillo (Smile 2), Matt Frewer (Perry Mason), and Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!).

As previously announced, Gabrielle Union leads the ensemble. Lennon also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Robert Ben Garant, his partner on Night at the Museum and numerous other projects, with revisions by Keith Cooper (Anything for Jackson) & Justin Dyck (Anything for Jackson), who directed the film.

The Casket Girls is inspired by true events involving a group of young women sent from France to New Orleans to become brides to French colonists in the early 1700s. The company has hired Fifth Season’s Prentiss Fraser as President of Fox Entertainment Global. It comes two years after it launched the global sales arm and amidst a search for a statement hire to lead the team responsible for selling shows such as Joel McHale-led Animal Control and Dan Harmon’s animated series Krapopolis to international broadcasters and streamers.

Fox Entertainment CEO Rob Wade believes that investing in international distribution is key to grow its studio and will bolster its network content strategy, helping the company on the global stage.

“The Way Home” is coming back … home.

Last month, Variety broke the news that the hit series was moving to Hallmark+, the company’s new streaming service, for its third season, debuting in January. It was set to make its linear debut in the fall.

However, “after hearing from the many passionate, loyal fans,” the show will now premiere on Hallmark Channel on Friday, January 3, at 9 p.m, and will stream the next day on Hallmark+. Devoted audience members of “The Way Home” had been grumbling — particularly in Facebook groups — about the idea of being forced to subscribe to another streaming service, with some even threatening to boycott the show. This rollout will continue all season.

The newly restructured Fox Entertainment division is taking form, as Hannah Pillemer has been named head of scripted entertainment and Allison Wallach as head of unscripted entertainment.

Fernando Szew, president and head of Fox Entertainment Studios, made the announcement Wednesday morning, saying in a statement, “I am honored to be working alongside Hannah and Allison as we build the future of the new Fox Entertainment Studios. Pillemer was previously at the Fox-owned MarVista Entertainment as EVP of creative and production.

Fox Entertainment Studios has tapped Hannah Pillemer and Allison Wallach to lead its scripted entertainment and unscripted entertainment divisions, respectively.

Pillmer, who is tasked with overseeing all development, creative and production for Fox Entertainment Studios’ scripted content slate, previously served as executive vice president of creative and production at MarVista Entertainment, which was founded and led by Szew and acquired by Fox in 2021.

The division works closely with Fox Television Network on comedy series such as “Animal Control” with Joel McHale and the upcoming “Going Dutch” with Denis Leary. Today, Hallmark+ announced that Mistletoe Murders, an all-new, six-episode holiday series, will premiere on Thursday, October 31.

Sarah Drew (Grey’s Anatomy) headlines as Emily Lane, a small-town shop owner with a secret.

The series also stars Peter Mooney (Rookie Blue) as local detective Sam Wilner and newcomer Sierra Marilyn Riley as his teenage daughter Violet.

Two cherished local institutions—Mimi’s Chicken and Frannie’s Chicken, owned respectively by the Moore and Hillier clans.
