Like everyone else, when I first saw the trailer for Netflix’s “Hot Frosty” — about a snowman who comes to life to charm a single woman in a small town — I groaned and giggled at the same time. It felt like a parody of the cheesy Christmas TV movie genre, the kind of simplistic, home-for-the-holidays fun that Hallmark has long championed and Netflix has successfully showcased to a younger audience over the last handful of years. I figured I’d half-watch at some point while also imbibing in some holiday cheer when doom-scrolling got a little too bleak.
Well.
I finally viewed the 90-minute smash starring Dustin Milligan as the titular Frosty and Lacey Chabert, and while it’s not winning any Emmys, it’s a sweet, surprisingly charming outing that should be able to hold its own entertaining both your parents and any teens in your life this holiday season.

Haul out the holly, Netflix’s entire 2024 Christmas slate is here, and we watched every one of them. So, if you’re wondering which ones to prioritize, or maybe which order to watch them in, we’re happy to guide you.
The streamer began their rollout at the beginning of November, releasing one new movie every Wednesday, culminating on Dec. 4. There are five in total, ranging pretty widely in concepts. One follows an all-male revue, another follows a hot snowman come to life, another features Pentatonix playing cupid.
Such is the beauty of Christmas movies. Here’s how we’d rank them.
Netflix 5. The Merry Gentlemen
On its face, “Christmas Magic Mike” sounds like it should be awesome. And in fairness, those elements in “The Merry Gentlemen” are awesome. But they aren’t strong enough to carry the rest of the film, which leans a little too far into the...

This 2024 Holiday season, Netflix has boldly asked the question: What if Christmas was hot?
Every November and December sees the streamer provide audiences with plenty of Yuletide seasonal movies, often resembling the type of corny, predictable, low-budget yet undeniably soothing made-for-tv works that Hallmark and other cable TV competitors push out during the tail end of the year. There’s plenty of that this year, most notably Lindsay Lohan’s “Our Little Secret,” about a couple who break up only to reunite during a Christmas holiday when they discover their new partners are siblings.
But this year, the company has put a bit of spice in the egg nog, so to speak, with “Hot Frosty” and “The Merry Gentlemen” two movies that…also pretty neatly fit into the Hallmark and Lifetime Christmas movie formula, down to featuring the type of early 2000s teen film star that often headline this genre.

You can’t swing a Christmas tree at the moment without crashing into one of the many dubious seasonal offerings festooned across the Netflix front page like so much cheap tinsel. Between sexy snowmen (Hot Frosty), Christmas strippers (The Merry Gentlemen), a ticket tout romance (Meet Me Next Christmas) and the latest evolution of the Lohanaissance (Our Little Secret), there’s enough shoddy yuletide fare to make even the holly jolliest of Christmas lovers want to garrotte an elf with some fairy lights.

Chad Michael Murray may have achieved teen heartthrob status early in his career, but there was a moment he was ready to walk away.

A 2024 Netflix film has rapidly become a global success, despite receiving a 30% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes. Though the streaming service has produced a number of movies that have received awards attention, Netflix just as frequently releases original films that miss with critics. However, the platform's set-up makes it easy for movies to reach audiences in search of a casual watch, turning critically-disliked titles into global hits.
Netflix's model has proven viewers are willing to engage with content regardless of critical opinion, suggesting that audience appeal plays a larger role in streaming platforms' success than that of critics. In recent weeks, Netflix originals that earned poor reviews on their way to becoming viewership hits include the Lindsay Lohan Christmas romance Our Little Secret, fellow holiday offering The Merry Gentlemen, and the slasher flick Time Cut.

Though fans might be most excited about Freakier Friday, Our Little Secret already demonstrates Lindsay Lohan’s official return to being a top actress. After appearing in some unsuccessful raunchy comedies and dramas of the 2010s, Lohan made a shocking comeback in 2022. Twenty years after Mean Girl’s success, the actress stars in three Netflix rom-coms, going back to her charming comedic style and proving she’s here to stay. While Our Little Secret has mixed reviews, Lohan’s performance shines through, foreshadowing a promising future for the actress.
Sharing the screen with a popular 2010s teen drama actor, Lohan and Ian Harding play exes who are forced to spend Christmas together, as they discover their partners are siblings. The entertainment industry is in the midst of a general contraction after last year’s SAG and WGA strikes, but there’s one sector that continues to thrive: holiday-themed TV movies! Granted, last year’s 116 has very slightly declined to a mere 110 in 2024, but that should still provide you with enough distraction to minimize your obligation to make conversation with loved ones.

Dune: Prophecy is a major hit on streaming, even though it holds an unfortunate Rotten Tomatoes record for the franchise. Created by Diane Ademu-John and Alison Schapker, the sci-fi TV show takes place 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides, chronicling how Harrkonen sisters Valya (Emily Watson) and Tula (Olivia Williams) created the Bene Gesserit order. Dune: Prophecy reviews have been somewhat lukewarm from critics, and the show is currently the lowest-rated entry in the franchise on Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite a bit of a muted response critically, new data from The Wrap reveals that Dune: Prophecy occupies the number one spot on Samba TV’s Weekly Wrap Report, which covers November 25 – December 1. The chart, which only includes U.S. data, ranks titles based on household reach. Prophecy's win cements Max as a major player in the streaming landscape, as it marks the 11th straight week a Max series occupied the top position.

Inherent in any Christmas movie is an element of silliness; it’s just the way of things. More often than not, magic is involved, and highly improbable love stories result in moving halfway across the country and giving up massive paychecks. But this year, Netflix really leaned in on absurdity for their Christmas offerings, and in the end, it helped the stars and creators of the films find the heart of it all.
The streamer has five new original Christmas movies this year, and rolled out one new film every Wednesday beginning in early November. In one, a sexy snowman comes to life and struggles not to melt while also trying to woo the woman who unwittingly brought him to life. In another, a small-town bar needs saving, so the owners’ daughter creates a Christmas-themed all male revue, because what better way to rake in cash?

Max boldly declares itself “The One to Watch” across its marketing materials and, throughout the second half of 2024, it has lived up to that tag line. This week is the 11th straight week that a Max/HBO title has topped the Samba TV’s Weekly Wrap Report streaming chart.
This week, the honor goes to “Dune: Prophecy,” which is the most-watched streaming program for the second consecutive week. It follows “The Penguin’s” nine-week run in the throne. Can “Dune” make it a clean sweep through the rest of the year? Stay tuned to find out.
“Dune” holds off some stiff competition this week, most of it coming from Netflix’s blizzard of holiday films. No. 2 this week is “Our Little Secret,” the latest holiday rom-com collaboration between the streamer and Lindsay Lohan. It’s clearly a fruitful combination, as 2.0 million US households watched the film over the first five days it was available.

Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from That Christmas on Netflix.
Netflix has put out its fair share of Hallmark-style Christmas rom-coms in 2024, but That Christmas is a change in direction as it revolves around the lives and struggles of young and older individuals in the fictional British town of Wellington-on-Sea during the holidays. However, it features a happy ending, like all the 2024 Netflix Christmas films that came before it. The animated fantasy comedy is co-written by Richard Curtis of Love Actually fame. Curtis undoubtedly channels his roots in That Christmas as it contains similar themes to Love Actually (just inserted into an animated world geared towards kids).
Aside from That Christmas, other Netflix original Christmas movies debuting in 2024 include Meet Me Next Christmas, Hot Frosty, The Merry Gentlemen, and Our Little Secret.

Mark Wahlberg and Mel Gibson's poorly-reviewed holiday movie, which made $180 million at the box office, has become a global Netflix hit seven years after its release. After breaking out with Boogie Nights, Walhberg went on to receive further critical acclaim for his performances in The Departed and The Fighter, while also venturing into big-budget action moves such as The Perfect Storm, Planet of the Apes, The Italian Job, and Transformers. However, in recent years, Wahlberg has focused more on comedies, including The Other Guys, Ted, and Daddy's Home.

“Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey” was the most-watched series on Netflix during the week of Nov. 25 to Dec. 1. In those seven days, the docuseries hit 13.4 million views.
The series hit Netflix one month before the 28th anniversary of Ramsey’s murder in 1996. The case has long been a pop culture obsession, as documented in the 2017 film “Casting JonBenét,” which also streams on Netflix.
The No. 2 TV title of the week was the Colman Domingo-led thriller “The Madness,” hitting 9.3 million views in its first four days on Netflix. It was followed by “A Man on the Inside,” a comedy from Mike Schur starring Ted Danson, which achieved 7 million views in its first full week of streaming after debuting at No. 1 the week before.

Lindsay Lohan has made a comeback in acting in recent years. She was originally known as a child actor, providing her talents to movies like The Parent Trap and Freaky Friday. In 2004, she made a splash in the teen comedy Mean Girls, wherein she played Cady Heron. Lohan's teenage years in acting were defined by films like these, which in turn became definitive works of family comedy. Mean Girls has a long legacy that has resulted in a Broadway musical and then a back-to-film adaptation of that musical, and Freaky Friday is also getting a new sequel.
After her active period in the early 2000s, however, Lohan's career slowed down significantly in the 2010s. For a while, her acting career only consisted of brief television appearances and short films. This changed in 2022, however, when Lohan signed a deal with Netflix that would allow her to star in a series of films.

For once, the top 10 movies on iTunes and Fandango aren’t close to a mirror image of each other. “Conclave” (Focus) and “Terrifier 3” (Cineverse), both successful October releases that exceeded theatrical expectations, were released on PVOD last week. They had the same availability yet vastly different results.
Edward Berger’s top award-contending “Conclave” took an immediate top spot at iTunes from its first day, yet is only #8 for the full-week in the Fandango top 10. Damien Leone’s “Terrifier 3” leads at Fandango, yet only briefly appeared during the week at iTunes (debuting at #3) before dropping off the list. It currently ranks #14.
The two charts can vary, but mainly in cases of different pricing. Fandango ranks by revenue accrued for a title, while iTunes goes by transactions. But in this case, they are the same price, making the different placements quite odd. In terms of relative position using daily charts for the week,...

Across the second half of 2024, Max/HBO has dominated Samba TV’s Weekly Wrap Report streaming chart thanks to two massive hits, “House of the Dragon” and “The Penguin.” Both of those series topped the chart for the entirety of their eight episode seasons, and then some. Incredibly, both “Dragon” and “Penguin” were the most-watched streaming shows in the weeks after their finale, giving them each nine week runs.
All of this is to set up the fact that Max possibly has its third runaway hit of 2024 with “Dune: Prophecy.” The sci-fi series is a spinoff of the massively popular “Dune” films that ruled the box office over the past several years. That audience clearly carried over, helping lift the show’s first episode to the top of the streaming chart this week.
“Dune” has a ways to go to match the magic of Max’s other two big hits.

After it failed to garner any traction at the box office, a 2024 Blumhouse movie is finding renewed success on Netflix. The indie studio best known for their horror output has enjoyed something of a mixed bag in the past couple of years when it's come to both the critical and commercial reception to their movies. For every record-breaking M3GAN and Five Nights at Freddy's, there's also been a near-franchise-destroying The Exorcist: Believer and lackluster Halloween Ends.
2024, in particular, has been something of a rockier year for Blumhouse. Having hoped to recapture the January release success of M3GAN, the horror short adaptation of Night Swim proved to be a critical misfire, albeit a modest box office success. The studio followed it up with four other releases, including the similarly panned Imaginary and the James McAvoy-starring English-language remake of Speak No Evil, which was a critical and commercial hit. Blumhouse is one of the biggest names in horror, and one of their four-year-old movies has found new streaming success. The production company now regularly releases anywhere between four and 12 movies a year, partnering with distributors like Warner Bros., Universal, Lionsgate, and Paramount, as well as streamers like Netflix, Prime Video, and Peacock. Though the stories, casts, and overall quality for Blumhouse movies vary from title to title, the films are generally made for less than $20 million, and they're generally horror or horror-adjacent.
2020 was a complicated year for Hollywood with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic causing global theatrical shutdowns, but several Blumhouse movies were still able to break through. The company's biggest success story of the year is, of course, Leigh Whannell's The Invisible Man, but Freaky and Fantasy Island were also hits. Other titles went straight to VOD, like You Should Have Left and The Craft: Legacy.

While Our Little Secret may paint a picture of the perfect holiday season, it has to dress up several real-world filming locations to get that festive cheer just right.
The new Netflix comedy, starring Mean Girls actress Lindsay Lohan, follows a former couple named Avery and Logan who come to discover that their new partners are siblings, which means they will all be spending an uncomfortable holiday season together.
The festive fiasco joins the streamer's ever-expanding lineup of holiday-themed fare, alongside recent hits like The Merry Gentlemen and Hot Frosty.

Netflix's The Merry Gentlemen and Mother of the Bride have three things in common they premiered in 2024, feature Chad Michael Murray, and weren't well received among critics and audiences alike. While the reception of both films is quite disappointing, the good news is that Murray's next movie (a long-awaited Disney sequel starring Lindsay Lohan) will likely be a hit given its hype and precedent. The actor just has to leave The Merry Gentlemen and Mother of the Bride in the past and look ahead to bigger and brighter things.

Netflix's latest holiday offering, Our Little Secret, is something of a step back from the streamer's efforts to go slightly spicier with their rom-com content this season following the shirtless-man-forward releases Hot Frosty and The Merry Gentlemen. The new movie which follows exes Avery (Lindsay Lohan) and Logan (Ian Harding) as they pretend not to know each other over Christmas when they realize their respective partners are siblings is a profoundly middle-of-the-road family comedy, minimally edgier than the average Hallmark Christmas movie but without enough texture to rub anybody the wrong way.
Our Little Secret is a holiday drama in which two resentful exes find themselves spending Christmas together after discovering that their current partners are siblings. The film explores themes of reconciliation and the complexities of family dynamics during the festive season.

Netflix's new Christmas movie with a Magic Mike twist has become their No. 1 film just days after its release. Since 2017, the streaming service has been producing original Christmas movies, starting with A Christmas Prince. Over the years, the streaming platform has established itself as a top destination for holiday films, including The Princess Switch starring Vanessa Hudgens, and The Christmas Chronicles starring Kurt Russell, both in 2018. Last year, one of Netflix's most popular holiday movies was Best. Christmas. Ever!.

Christmas movies on Netflix are already hot — not frosty.
The streamer’s latest Global Top 10 list included three Christmas movies: Chad Michael Murray and Britt Robertson film “The Merry Gentlemen” debuting at No. 1, “Hot Frosty” slipping to number 2, and “Meet Me Next Christmas” with Christina Millian charting seventh in its third week on the list.

Netflix debuted yet another holiday rom-com last week, which audiences quickly boosted to the top of the English films list.
The Merry Gentlemen, starring Chad Michael Murray and Britt Robertson, amassed 14.7M views from November 18 to 24, making it the most-watched title of the week.
In fact, the English films list was largely dominated by holiday movies, including two other recent Netflix originals, Hot Frosty and Meet Me Next Christmas, which came in at No. 2 with 12.7M views and No. 7 with 5.9M views, respectively.
Netflix’s animated original Spellbound also made its debut on November 22, soaring to third place with 8.5M views in its first few days on the streamer.
As for TV, Mike Schur took the top spot with his new comedy A Man on the Inside, which got 6.9M views.
Season 2 of Arcane remained solid this week as well with another 6.4M views, which was good enough for second place.

The main setting in Netflixs The Merry Gentlemen is The Rhythm Room, and this fun place raises questions about whether its a real bar or not. Netflixs Christmas content is already in full force, and among its movies is The Merry Gentlemen, directed by Peter Sullivan. The Merry Gentlemen has a mix of comedy, drama, and a touch of spice that seems to be the style for Netflixs 2024 Christmas movies, and it brings back 2000s heartthrob Chad Michael Murray, who stars alongside Britt Robertson. The Merry Gentlemen follows Ashley (Robertson), a Broadway dancer who is replaced after a misstep onstage.

He’s back, and this year before Thanksgiving, and even as #1 at iTunes.
We’re talking about the Grinch. Two Universal hits featuring the Dr. Seuss character — one live-action (Ron Howard’s “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” starring Jim Carrey), one animated (“The Grinch” from 2018) — both have returned to top 10 VOD lists. And with a vengeance — “How the Grinch” is #1 at iTunes (which ranks by transactions) but even more impressively #7 at Fandango. With that site calculating by revenue, the $3.99 rental cost at 20 percent of the normal $19.99 level (eight of their 10 films have that), it means a huge volume that likely made it tops in transactions there.
Netflix originals continue their hot hand, with five of the top six positions on their U.S. movie chart Monday. “The Piano Lesson,” from August Wilson’s play and featuring Danielle Deadwyler’s award-touted lead performance, is #6 at the moment after debuting at #5 over the weekend.

Last week, I was lamenting about the state of Christmas movies after watching The Merry Gentlemen, and between then and now, 10 more Xmas-themed films have been released across various streaming platforms, and all of them have been pretty bad. One of them was inspired by the real-life romantic relationship between Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, so you can guess what we are dealing with. And the most surprising and dreadful thing is that we are still in the month of November. We haven’t even hit December. It’s still hot outside. Hence, I am not shivering because of the temperature; it’s the fear that holiday season-centric films are going to get much worse than they are right now that’s making me quiver in my boots. That’s why, despite being an atheist, I started praying to the movie gods to give me a glimmer of hope by...

Netflix's steamy Christmas romance movie, The Merry Gentlemen, is already turning heads with its Magic Mike-inspired Christmas-themed male revue. The movie brings together romance and dancing with more heartfelt scenes of characters spending the holidays with their family. Even The Merry Gentlemen's cast itself boasts several recognizable faces that will draw fans in, including the former teen star Chad Michael Murray as the reluctant dancer-turned-love interest.
While critics' reviews of the movie are lackluster, audiences are enjoying the dance sequences and the romance between main characters Ashley and Luke. The Merry Gentlemen perfectly combines more adult scenes and themes with the heartfelt Christmas spirit that appears in many holiday rom-coms, creating something unique. The Merry Gentlemen is the most recent addition to Netflix's Christmas movie lineup, an impressively large catalog of holiday films that all seem to reference each other. This means that audiences can always find a perfect follow-up movie.

“Cross” was the most-watched streaming original in the U.S. during the week of Nov. 15-21, per Luminate. The Amazon Prime Video series, based on James Patterson’s “Alex Cross” novels, was watched for 1.8 billion minutes in that timeframe, which marked its first full week of availability after premiering on Nov. 14.
Peacock also had a big win this week, charting higher than normal with the debut of “The Day of the Jackal.” The Eddie Redmayne-led series was watched for 830.4 million minutes in its first full week of streaming, landing at No. 2 and edging out “Tulsa King” Season 3’s third-place-winning 787.6 million minutes.
Season 6 of "Cobra Kai" was right behind "Tulsa King," taking fourth place with 782.3 million minutes watched in the first full week of availability for its second batch of episodes. (A third and final batch of episodes is set for Feb. 13.) At No. 5 was "Sisters' Feud," which was watched...

Before the cold temperatures fully hit for the winter — at least, depending on where you are — Netflix is steaming things up with their latest Christmas movie offering, “The Merry Gentlemen.”
Now streaming, the film is kind of like a Christmassy “Magic Mike,” starring Chad Michael Murray. He plays a bar handyman named Luke who hates city girls, but begrudgingly agrees to dance in a male revue led by city girl Ashley (Britt Robertson), when she needs to save her parents’ bar (the one he works in). He quickly finds that dancing in the show opens him up in more ways that he expected, and the two fall in love.
Naturally, that show has a whole lot of Christmas music for the men to dance to, so we’ve rounded up all the tracks for you.
Here are all the songs in “The Merry Gentlemen”:

The goofiest, strangest Christmas movie of 2024 has already taken over Netflix, but it seems that audiences are in the mood for more festive cheer. According to data obtained by FlixPatrol, "The Merry Gentlemen" is the latest holiday-themed caper to sleigh ride to the top of the charts in the United States. In the film, Chad Michael Murray and Britt Robertson play the lovestruck protagonists who are united by holiday magic, but there's more to this one than mushy, feel-good romance.
At first glance, "The Merry Gentleman" echoes the spotlight-obsessed ageism that informs "The Substance," aka this year's most bonkers and bloody body horror movie. Coralie Fargeat's splatterfest movie tells the story of a TV aerobics instructor who gets relieved of her duties as the network wants a younger star on its screens. Meanwhile, Peter Sullivan's "The Merry Gentlemen" sees Robertson's character, Ashley, get ousted from a Broadway...

The key to most Christmas movies is a small town setting, usually traveled to by a character from a big city. And that’s true for “The Merry Gentlemen” too — but was it actually filmed in a small town?
Now streaming on Netflix, the movie tells the story of Luke (Chad Michael Murray), a handyman and carpenter who hates anything and anyone to do with the city. He thinks city girls — like Ashley (Britt Robertson) — are divas. But, when Ashley needs to save her family’s business, where Luke happens to work, he begrudgingly agrees to dance in a male revue that she directs and choreographs for Christmas.
See, Ashley is a former Jingle Belle. When she unceremoniously gets fired for being too old — yes, she’s in her 30s, practically ancient for a dancer, apparently — she returns home from the city to clear her head and help her parents.

Chad Michael Murray joins the various famous actors starring in Netflix's 2024 Christmas movies with The Merry Gentlemen, which is reminiscent of the actor's former TV show, Gilmore Girls. Murray starred as Tristan DuGray in The WB's successful comedy-drama series about the relationship between a single mother and her teenage daughter. Unfortunately, Murray only appeared in 11 episodes over the course of the first two seasons of Gilmore Girls before he exited the show.
The Merry Gentlemen is just one of many holiday movies coming to Netflix in 2024. Others include Meet Me Next Christmas, Hot Frosty, Our Little Secret (starring Lindsay Lohan), and That Christmas.
Tristan was one of Rory Gilmore's classmates in Gilmore Girls who was also kind of a bully. He would often tease Rory, most notably about her virginity. As the episodes continued, though, romantic tension between Rory and Tristan began to form, making him a...

As the Thanksgiving holiday and the end of the year quickly approach, there's going to be much more down time from school and work. That means it's time catch up on Netflix new releases and have lots of movie marathons and binge-watches. Thankfully, there's lots coming to our watch lists soon.
Going into the weekend before the week of Thanksgiving, the Netflix top 10 most popular TV shows ranking includes recent releases such as Cobra Kai, which dropped the second part of its final season ahead of its series finale next year, and animated series Arcane.
As for the most popular movies on Netflix right, the sexy Netflix original holiday rom-coms The Merry Gentlemen and Hot Frosty are still bringing in viewers, but there's still plenty more movies to discover on the top 10 ranking and in the weekend's new release lineup.
