I finished seeing My Deer Friend yesterday night. My first impression of this show was the poorly-rendered, realistic CGI deers and the umaru-chan like weird little deer girl from 2 months ago that just came off as obnoxious to me.
But then I heard it's opening song "Shikanoko noko noko Koshitan-tan" in an anime schoolgirls dancing video which was EXTREMELY catchy. So when I saw the opening itself I was compelled to see the show.
At first the grandiose bizarre Japanese anime comedy like of the 2000s was very endearing, kind of funny, and the girls were hot especially Koshitan ( look out for a certain dance in episode 3 😆) with HILARIOUS English voice acting, but as the show went on, it gleefully dove into generic "cringey" japanese school comedy that requires a viewer's familiarization with japanese culture and anime tropes heavily in general to even remotely understand what the joke is, much like Gintama except it doesn't have any of the wit of that show, which is quite ironic since its animated by WIT Studio which was another huge reason to watch it.
At times it even had a feeling of Attack on Titan: Junior High from it's poster design, style and the setting since WIT Studio is also responsible for that extremely high quality school comedy spoof of Attack on Titan.
The characters are cooky and the English voice acting is extremely funny at times especially for straight-woman Koshitan and rice-obsessed Bashume but the other characters are just caricatures of the generic anime schoolgirl tropes. It ends pretty funny but any sense of seriousness or drama it builds is promptly killed the next episode, which was really disappointing and left a bad aftertaste despite some really funny dialogue.
Leaves me to say, brainless gags are not all that make a good comedy anime. 4:57pm.

Japanese humor is a completely mysterious thing, you either end up simply fascinated or you end up wondering what the hell is going on, this anime is somewhere between the two.
Above all, the series does not bring anything new to the formula that we all know, it is always an anime girl combined with some cute animal that can be used for marketing products and as the image of the program, in this case a deer.
The opening is more of the same, people love it because it is incredibly catchy, it is one of those songs that will play in your head until the day you die and you will find videos of Asians dancing to that rhythm for all eternity, there is no escape.
Watch it if it catches your attention and you're bored, but don't expect anything new or fresh, it's ridiculousness at its finest.

When I watched the first episode, this is way too funny but it inspired from any slice-of-life anime like Nichijou, Azumanga Daioh, etc.
The main protagonist is Nokotan, she's just a silly-looking girl with deer antlers but she has a weird humour towards Toshiko that she calls her "delinquent" and she's formerly a Yankee, and she decided to hid her identity as a "honourable school student".
I really love this anime very much because it has a comedic twist but...no Deers harm in that anime!
The opening song is way too addicting, even the verse " Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan" is repeating and dancing. Although, that song is also too brainrot when it comes to watch this one, and for the ending song, a real-life footage set in Japan is to promote Nara Prefecture, which is a home of wild Deers and how Deer crackers are made.
I give this rating a Deer/10.

This show absolutely mind boggling, I couldn't stop laughing through the first episode alone.
You can tell that the creators had the time of their life making this. It's full of references and stupidity, and I love it so much for that.
THIS is why animation was created. Creating flabbergasting stories with little to no realism. It's just so.... FUN! It pure chaos, but the characters have so much charm already.
The animation is bizarre, breaking so many rules of nature, and I'm here for it.
The deer are incredibly out of place 3D models, but it's very obvious that it's intentional. They show the viewer not to take the show too seriously, and it's so nice to be able to not do that once in a while.
Highly recommend. So much fun.

Absurdist comedy about the Deer and her friends in a school, it's just an absurdist comedy that made me laugh once in a while, but the biggest problem is most of the show is just kind of okay. Not terrible, not laughing, just there.
The English dub is surprisingly good and they are pronouncing in funny over the top way, in The Screams are amazing, but it's just the random kind of humour that I cannot get behind most of time once in a while I laugh, most of the time not.
The biggest problem with an absurdist comedy, is after a while it stopped being absurd and just became normal, predictable so after watching 8 episodes. I begin to space out looking at the screen.
I watch it because of the memes on YouTube, and I think will remember that long after the last episode have lift my brain.

"My Deer Friend Nokotan" is a delightfully silly and funny anime with a lighthearted storyline full of comedic moments. The opening song, "Shikairo Days," is incredibly addictive, and the catchy line "Shika nokonoko koseitan" sticks in your head. The unique ending features real-life footage of a zoo with deer and shows how to make deer crackers, adding a charming and authentic touch.
The series also incorporates 3D CGI deer throughout, creating a bizarre yet interesting element. It's packed with references that avid anime fans will enjoy spotting. The characters, especially Nokotan, a human-deer hybrid with a big personality, are wonderfully crafted, each bringing their own quirks and charm.
The pacing of the show keeps the audience engaged, with a simple yet effective storyline that is easy to follow. The music and sound effects are top-notch, enhancing the overall atmosphere.
In conclusion, "My Deer Friend Nokotan" stands out with its catchy opening song, unique ending footage, and abundance of references. The well-crafted characters, silly animation, and engaging storyline ensure a fun and entertaining watch. If you're looking for something enjoyable, this anime is definitely worth checking out!

People compare this to nichijou or any type of anime just like it. I can't see the correlation other than that one skit where the principle fought a deer in nichijou. I personally don't see how everyone likes it. So far 7 episodes in and I've laughed(exhaled through my nose) maybe 4 times. This is so buns smh. I'm trying to like it but it's not clicking. I smoke before I watch it to try to make it funnier to me and I'm drawing blanks here. This show is a total let down. Crazy because I thought that this could be the one instance where drugs would be the answer but they're not. I keep finding myself going on my phone to keep me awake while this is on. It makes okay background noise. The length of Isekai titles are funnier than this. I keep it in my watchlist to make the number of shows I watch even. Far from a masterpiece. Two stars is generous to me and I don't like to write reviews because it's too much of a hassle but I feel this was deserved. This show was way overhyped and I got my hopes up thinking I'd have a goof, a gaf, and a bit of a laugh. This show sucks.
This Anime will change your life beyond your understanding, its main goal was to be a comedy anime with a lot of other anime's references, and well, it reached its goal way better then expected. Recomand it.to watch it with the entire family and friends (if you have)or just spam them with memes/ gifs of the show, its one in a lifetime chance to watch such a peak brainrot anime that breaks the 4th wall so easily compared to other animes. Overall best anime ever made besides Jojo's Bizzare Adventure, Highschool DxD(stil waiting for the fifth season), Redo of Healer(where is season 2) and Evangelion.

Watched a few episodes because i saw some gifs and it seemed funny. It wasn't, at all. Nokotan's voice is really annoying. Other characters are insufferable and the story makes no sense. If a 12 year old and a 4 year old wrote an anime it would be this. I never laughed throughout any of the episodes and the only thing it got me praying for was for the episode to end. One word to describe this anime is "overhyped". I wish i could give it a zero because i regret wasting time watching it. There's is absolutely no redeeming quality about this show.
But hey if you're a fan of skibidi toilet you'll probably love this!

Watching this show has genuinely been the happiest I have been in my entire life. The silly antics of this show genuinely make me laugh. I have watched it several times over and I will continue to do so I hope to see so much more from this for a long time. It's helped me through one of the hardest times in my life and I can't believe I'm saying that a silly show about a deer person would be so impactful on me. I'm not baiting or trolling I genuinely think it's amazing yah sure I have a few complaints but the pros weigh so much more than the cons. I highly recommend watching it and showing it some love even if anime isn't your thing you'll honestly be surprised with just some of the things that happen. Is it supposed to make sense no not at all but that's the charm it's so outlandish and wild you get grabbed just to see what happens next what shenanigans are they going to get up to.

Many have praised this comedy slice-of-life series for exploring profound emotional themes, as any good slice-of-life should. However, after 12 episodes, I struggle to find that "profound emotional exploration." The characters lack depth and personality, and there's no meaningful emotional connection between them. They remain little more than acquaintances, with minimal interaction throughout the show.
Some have compared it to Nichijou, but I don't see the resemblance. Nichijou crafts absurd and hilarious scenarios through hyperbolization, starting with situations that make sense. In contrast, Shikanoko Noko Noko Noko Koshi Tan Tan is just random nonsense stacked on more random nonsense. While it is funny at times, it lacks the structure that makes a slice-of-life series truly engaging.
The humor does manage to make me chuckle here and there, but it quickly becomes repetitive and loses its charm. Beyond its comedic moments, it doesn't have much else to offer.
It really makes me feel like the author made a deal with the devil to make it popular or something because I really do not see why every one likes it so much. (And this is coming from an all time slice-of-life lover)

Torako Koshi used to be a delinquent but she is determined to put that behind her and is now one of the most admired girls in her school. Her life is about to become somewhat chaotic though. One day she meets Noko Shikanoko... a sika deer with an almost human appearance. Noko looks like an ordinary girl apart from the fact that she has antlers! Soon they have formed the 'Deer Club' and things get even stranger.
Every so often an anime comes along that makes the viewer wonder of the creators 'what were they on'!? This is one of those shoes; utterly bonkers but also hilarious. I'm not surprised that previous reviewers either thought it was great or terrible rather than 'it was okay' as humour like this is highly subjective and neither view is wrong. Personally I loved the characters and thought every episode delivered plenty of laughs in a genuinely surreal manner. The character designs are good as is the animation. I really liked the contrast between the standard anime human characters, including Noko, and the more realistic looking deer that occasionally appeared, usually accompanied by the chanting of the work 'sika'. Overall I'd definitely recommend this to fans of more bizarre anime comedies.
These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

A deer once asked "What is peak?". Another wise deer responded simply "This." When individuals strive to reach higher levels of achievement, we often ask ourselves the question of identity. "Who do I want to be?" It is hard for us humans to gauge our progress unless we compare ourselves to other constants of this world. This show truly emphasizes these questions and reveals that it is in fact the concept of Deer that we humans strive to accomplish in life. While we may be unaware of this secret desire, through community (our own symbolic deer club) we can achieve transcendence beyond our traditional ways of life. From the first "Shika" to the last "nun", this show reminds us of our humanity and the fragility of our ideas of progress in life. "Shikanokonokonokokoshitantan"?
The answer to this statement is: "Yes"

This show just isn't funny, like, at all. Every episode crams in so much stuff that it feels way longer than it actually is. The first episode was awful, the second one was slightly better, but then the third felt exactly the same-still not entertaining. I didn't even bother watching the fourth episode after that. Honestly, all the hype around it was for nothing. It's seriously overrated.
I kept hearing people talk about how amazing it was, but I just don't get it. The jokes fall flat and the pacing is all over the place. It's like they tried to pack too much into each episode without giving any of it time to breathe. By the time you get to what's supposed to be a big moment, you're already over it because so much random stuff happened before. Maybe it picks up later, but I honestly don't see the point in sticking around to find out. There are way better shows out there that actually deliver. This one? Total letdown.

Yo, fam! If you're not watching *Nokotan* yet, are you even living? This show is the purest form of vibes and an absolute riot from start to finish. I mean, if you're looking for a mix of epicness and LOLs, buckle up because *Nokotan* is serving it all on a golden platter.
First off, let's talk about the humor. The gags are so on point that I nearly choked on my snacks like three times an episode. From the clever puns to the deadpan delivery, it's like the writers took a masterclass in making us laugh till we cry. And those unexpected plot twists? Chef's kiss.
The characters? Let's just say they're like your favorite meme come to life. Each one brings their own flavor to the party, and their chemistry is seriously next-level. You're gonna find yourself falling for these peeps faster than you can say "plot twist!"
The animation? Stunning. The soundtrack? Fire. Everything about this show is designed to hit all the right notes. It's like a rollercoaster of feels and laughs that you never want to end.
Shoutout to my deer friend who recommended this masterpiece-long live my deer family and our shared love for top-tier entertainment!
So, if you haven't hit play on *Nokotan* yet, what are you even doing? Get with it and join the hype train, because this show is a total game-changer. 10/10, would binge again!

The title is as revelant as the show caring for its characters. The problem with the show isn't the surreal elements or its stupidity; it's more the fact that it can't embrace the premise enough and doesn't develop its characters. Most of the jokes are lazy and rely on them saying they're lazy instead of doing anything interesting with the premise.
The reason it's 2 and not one is because I think the first episode had a decent set-up for the show's premise, but it almost never took off and had fun with it, and I liked the opening, but sadly, aside from the title cards being fun, it's really the only praise I can give.
