There were legitimate issues with quicksand on set.
While filming on the Bonneville Salt Flats, because of the remote location, the cast & crew stayed overnight in caravans. One morning, they were surprised to wake up and find 6 inches of water for as far as the eye could see. It came out of nowhere & covered the entire set where they'd been shooting. They had to relocate to a dry spot to finish shooting.
