This film is the result of completing a secondary edit from the original 48-hour film project competition entry (the editor has removed some of the required competition elements) - it is a derivative film from the competition entry and a truly beautiful effort after all the challenges the editing team encountered. Tyrian Pearl Productions has added the following text required for a modified film, "The concept for this film developed during the 48 Hour Film Project" at the end of the new version. The genre was picked from a hat (detective-cop), written and filmed in 24-hrs; but due to sound difficulties, the edit was not completed in time for competition submission, much to the teams collective disappointment, but heroic efforts. A huge learning curve by a fabulous team of volunteers called, 'The Pearls of Dubai' - the film 'Veil' was quietly voted (privately) as one of the audience favorites in the public screening despite not having won a placement.
The edit was very difficult. The Editor was unable to use many of the raw rushes, due to a technical problem with the sound recording gear that was not realized until the rushes were seen/heard in the edit room - and by then, the crew did not have time to re-film. This meant a scramble to make a new story line with the rushes that the Editor did have - and so, the story line does not 'flow' smoothly at times purely due to a lack of footage that made sense. Additionally, some original music being composed for the film did not get finalized in time, and it was a scramble to get enough music for the edit, suitable to the genre (detective cop) - so some of the music, and definitely the story line, was way out of whack, not smooth, not compatible. Honestly, it was a wonder this film got finished, given the enormous troubles in the edit room - and, all credit to the Editor who did his best; and to the Cinematographer who was gracious enough to keep supporting the Producer during this difficult time. However, the film got finished despite all, no matter its 'faults', and given this was only 48-hours, the effort, learning, passion, etc, was exactly that - a learning experience.
Producers comment: Please remember this 48-hour film competition was was filmed in the UAE in 2016, and meant as a learning event for a country still very 'young' in terms of professional film production (at that time, there was only a fledgling film industry in UAE) and everyone was an unpaid cast or crew - all were volunteers from many countries. Any lack of skill in acting or speaking in the scene: yes, there was professional growth needed as most of the cast and crew were amateurs barre five out of 32 members, and most of the actors were 2nd language learners (not native English speakers), so pronunciation is sometimes unclear - audience critique is valued only if positively sent - please be KIND. A more relaxed situation could have happened without the language challenges, and if there had been a proper film budget to pay certain people.... so the film is what it is - a humble effort of sincere heart, to overcome all challenges, and learn a little more. Onward, and very gracious thanks to everyone who contributed.
