Ignore the low score ratings and reviews. It may be far from perfect but that can't change the fact that it is a horror movie that evolves around a very unsettling horror figure, portrayed by Elvis Lolasco who gives a great performance as a demonic children's entertainer. His ability to change moods and transform from a happy show host to a malevont entity in an instant steals the show. Yes, some directing choices are questionable, the demonic toys looked more silly than scary ( I can't explain why the thought they would fit in the movie), some moments were unintenionally funny but the spooky and surrealistic atmosphere is there, the dread aura of Mr Crocket is there and the movie has some good stuff worth exploring. Some may say the movie didnt have enough scary scenes and those that tried to scare failed (e.g. The low bufget movie splatter scenes). In my opinion, the real scare is the underlying nature of the antagonist, a truly evil character who hides his malevolence behind a child-friendly personality and an actually hellish kid's show. I want to see more of the Mr Crocket, in the future, he is a horror villain that honestly captured my interest.

"Mr. Crocket" is a 2024 Hulu horror film that offers a nostalgic nod to the iconic 90s TV series, Goosebumps. Fans of the original show will appreciate the familiar tone and atmosphere, as well as the chilling premise of a demonic children's show host.
The film follows a mother, played by Jerrika Hinton, as she embarks on a terrifying journey to rescue her son from the clutches of "Mr. Crocket", a sinister TV personality who has been kidnapping children. The performances are solid, with Hinton delivering a convincing portrayal of a desperate mother. Ayden Gavin shines as her son, capturing the fear and vulnerability of a child trapped in a dangerous situation.
While the film's plot may be somewhat predictable, it's the atmosphere and execution that make it enjoyable. The visual effects are impressive, creating a believable and unsettling world. The score is also effective, adding to the suspense and tension.
Overall, "Mr. Crocket" is a promising horror film that shows a lot of potential. While it may not be a groundbreaking masterpiece, it's a fun and frightening watch that will satisfy fans of the genre.

Ok, i really wanted to like this one - with a very promising opening sequence and incredibly novel concept, i felt like this was going to be a hit.....but no so much.
Its basically mr. Rogers meets freddy krueger/pennywise (IT) - a childrens TV host comes out of the TV to kill parents and abduct children - very novel concept with a ton of potential but it went in a very campy direction (not in a good way) and lost a lot of steam about halfway through.
The acting was pretty stiff and the writing wasnt great. It did have some pretty decent practical special effects and the puppetry was done well. But other than that, i didnt feel like this one lived up to its full potential.
It felt like the writer/director had a concept built around special effects and then shoehorned everything else in to complete it - everything other than the special effects are an after thought and fall real flat.
Overall, i would not reco this one. If redone in a different way and taken more seriously, yeah, sure, but i dont think its worth your time - skip.

Can't believe some of the bad reviews this movie is getting!
Having grown up in the 90s, I remember the torture of having to watch Barney on repeat as the TV served as a babysitter for my younger sibling, so the premise hits me in the childood.
Mr. Crocket is a psychotic supernatural Mr. Rodgers with a nightmarish dash of PeeWee's playhouse for his realm.
Solid story and practical effects makes for spooky fun reminiscent of a good old school episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark, or a tamer version of Tales from the Hood
Only complaint I have is it's hard to imagine the mom wanting her son Major back as he's a complete and utter ****

To be honest, I have no idea what to make of this...movie. I originally thought it was a kids' "horror," like Goosebumps or Hocus Pocus. It's clear in a big way during the first two minutes that it's not.
It straddles that line between kids and adults, though: kids in the acting and special effects, adult in the gore and swearing. Also, I think they ripped the music from E. T.
Ssssooo, what the frig did I just watch? I *still* have no idea.
Don't bother with it if you have anything else on your watch list. But if you don't, check it out. It's a weird movie: a weirdness crossed between you watching someone do something stupid and you're embarrassed for them and you watching someone do something unexpected and you're calling 911 on them.
So check it out if you like practical effects from the 80s and acting from Sleepaway Camp. If not, Event Horizon is due for another viewing.

A Nightmare On Elm Street meets The Ring - except Freddy is a children's show host and the deadly cassette tape is the host's old school public access TV children's show.
There were choices made that prevented Mr. Crocket from being a near-perfect horror romp, but it's still entertaining as hell and has what it takes to become a cheesy annual Halloween staple! It's a hodgepodge of over-the-top horror campiness and gore, emotional family drama, derivative investigation sequences, and a fun yet legitimately menacing villain.
Elvis Nolasco as the titular character 110% knew the assignment and helped create an iconic horror villain! So much so, I feel like the movie would have suffered without Nolasco's self-aware performance. He fully embodies the genuinely innocent children's show host, even in the most frightening scenarios (except for a few moments when it made sense to break away).
Another thing that made this movie worthwhile was its use of practical gore, sets, and puppetry. It made the decades-old children show feel tangible and nostalgic, and really elevated the campy scenes of violence and doom. When digital FX is used, it's cheesy and feels out of place. I could only imagine how amazing it would've been if they instead used analog video manipulation and distorting; this approach would've fit with in the world of the movie and it would've made those scenes much, much scarier.

I'm not sure if I watched the same film as these other reviewers, but I found this to be very bland, predictable, and boring. There were essentially zero scares, the atmosphere was never believable, and the entire film felt rushed and slightly cheesy. I kept waiting on the horror, but it was never really delivered. Apart from some great gore, this was a total letdown.
A few positives: the casting is great, the 90's nods are believable and seem genuine, and the look of the film is quite nice. Are these factors enough to save this film? Absolutely not, unfortunately. However, it is at least better than Twilight.

Mr. Crocket is a fun, bloody ride that blends dark children's TV vibes with satisfyingly campy horror. The deaths are sick and funny, the puppets are demented, and the cartoon sequences are genuinely creepy. A lot of effort has gone into recreating the 90s aesthetic through the sets and wardrobe, so it's definitely worth a watch if you're looking for 90s horror nostalgia.
Elvis Nolasco is undeniably the star of the show as Mr. Crocket, the unsettling kids' TV host who blurs the line between saccharine sweetness and killer monstrosity.
Unfortunately, after a very creatively bloody opening that hooks you in, the story does start to lose some steam. The pacing becomes uneven, and the plot feels a bit clunky and disjointed at times. As a movie adapted from a short, you can tell that the adaption from its intended runtime to 90 minutes wasn't the smoothest transition. Still, it manages to hang on and keeps things interesting enough to pull you through.
If you're into dark kids' TV, practical gore, or VHS horror, Mr. Crocket is certainly worth a watch. It's not without its flaws, but you can tell that the makers poured a lot of passion into making this - at no point does it feel phoned in. It's the kind of movie that's best enjoyed on a Friday night when you're in the mood for something fun and a little twisted.

Discount Freddy wants to be your friend to the end!
Continuing into Ahhctober 2024 we have Mr. Crocket, a very bland supernatural TV host who only wishes to protect kids from their bad parents. Too bad he only has a fraction of charisma Richard Pryor had. (Yes, he reminded me of the late, great Pryor.)
This is another movie that's trying to cash-in on nostalgia. Yesterday, for Ahhctober 2024, I watched Deer Camp '86 that obviously took place in the mid-80s but barely put any effort into that illusion. This one, a decade later in 1993 and the only thing tying it to that year was VCRs.
I didn't mind this supernatural horror. It's campy and, at times, pretty gory. Plus, SOME of the jump scares, even when I forecasted their arrival, were effective. And it's harmless/leave your brain at the door, horror fun. The unfortunate thing was, again, Mr. Crocket's a pretty mid villain.
Anyone can see the Freddy influences and everyone can see Robert Englund's a bucket-full more effective than Elvis Nolasco playing the title character here. Additionally, I sincerely doubt the kids these ages would've been so enthralled in this Blues Clues/Pee Wee's Playhouse downgrade.
Still, overall, it's inoffensive fun. Watch for some good gore and bad parents getting their due.
***
Final Thoughts: I kept thinking Five Nights at Freddy's even though it's only a slight carbon copy. I can see the influences, but it's not even at FNAF-levels.

This is a solid 7.5. The FX and kill scenes were great with less CGI and more "80s" type FX. The storyline is good and felt fresh. The acting was good, but Mr. Crockett's performance was the best. I also loved the fact that the director/writing didn't use racism as a theme at all. It's almost laughable how in every black horror film the main character has to fight a killer.... And racism. This did not play into the stereotypical storyline of black horror. This will give kids and adults nightmares and if this was made when I was a kid it would have left lasting trauma. As a horror movie this should be an instant classic for this coming generations and I think one that if it doesn't get the love it deserves now, it definitely will in 10 years from now!!!

If you're in for an easy cheesy time with a small portion of gross, this campy horror should be right up your street.
Director Brandon Espy proves to use he has some fairly good taste in horror, taking inspiration from classics such as Nightmare on Elm Street (Dream Warriors and onwards, I'd assume) and Sam Raimi's Evil Dead 2, with a sprinkle of Candyman, to mash together a familiar yet still original horror experience.
Elvis Norasco brings us Mr Crocket, a candidate for everyone's future nightmares. He delivers the punches with what he was given, and certainly amps up the energy every time he's onscreen. With enough development, he could soon become a horror culture classic (provided we have any sequels on the horizon, of course.)
Jerrika Hilton comes in strong as our leading lady, again giving us the best with what she was given. Her performance is solid from start to finish. Kristolyn Lloyd, in a supporting role, was exceptional, proving that minimal screen time means nothing when you have what it takes.
The practical effects and horror puppetry are both very welcome additions, proving that there's genuine hope for the creative industry, and that CGI doesn't always belong in a horror film. I only wish we'd seen more of it.
The films shortcomings are simple, the writing needed some fine-tuning, some dialogue felt a little basic, and it would have been fun to explore some of the horrors behind the world of Mr Crocket a little better. While I also liked the setting in the early 90s, I could have done with just a tiny bit more 90s nostalgia bait (I'm a sucker for it, what can I say, if you're gonna go 90s, go hard or go home, right?)
Over all, it was a fun experience. I almost wrote it off because of the terrible reviews and I'm glad I didn't. Is it a perfect horror movie? Nope. Will it entertain you if you're bored? Maybe. The only way you'll really know is if you give it a chance, I know I'm glad I did.

I'm a horror fan. I watch horror all the time and only occasionally switch to other things. This isn't horror. This is bad acting with a bad script and bad characters with a bit of gore thrown in. Badly done gore at that.
The film is set before mobile phones and the internet were commonly used so at least there are a couple of things that don't happen that usually happens like no service or a dead battery.
Instead it's a video tape. Because apparently there aren't enough VHS movies already and The Ring movies didn't satisfy the possessed tape enough.
If this took more than a week to film then at least 6 of those days were totally wasted.
It's just all around bad and not even in a funny way.

A movie about bad parenting that follows Summer (Jerrika Hinton) trying to rescue her son from TV host Mr. Crocket (Elvis Nolasco).
Mr. Crocket is a movie with aspects that resemble works such as The Ring (2002), where a presence came out from the TV screen, Harold and the Purple Crayon (1955) by Crockett Johnson, where a magic crayon let the protagonist create things from imagination, and many other children's TV shows where a host is usually accompanied by animals and kids while singing songs and learning.
The movie has its dose of gore, although nothing close to the New French Extremity, where what is depicted on screen evokes nausea or is close at. It is a movie interested in parenting, bad parenting especially, and how parents, unbeknownst to them, are pushing away their children by screaming at them, not giving them the attention required, etc. By framing the story around families with unhappy children by reason of their parents, Brandon Espy's feature is taking a paternalizing position in which he tells its audience to take care of their kids.
What ails the movie is that, once you know what it is all about, Mr. Crocket kidnapping children here and there and a mother's crusade to get her son back, it becomes uninteresting owing to its predictability. Sure, Elvis Nolasco is good playing the creepy show host, and he definitely makes the movie watchable to some extent, but there's only so much he can do. Mr. Crocket, ultimately, has its moments, but they never add up to a complete film because the horror is lacking as well as a reason to keep you interested. The idea is there, but the execution isn't.

Mr. Crocket is a campy little fun movie with a rather interesting antagonist. Sadly he is probably the only memorable thing about this movie. Apart maybe from the great looking practical effects. Mr. Crocket and his monster's are definitely the highlight of the movie because they are the only interesting aspect that I can think of. The movie wasn't bad at all and the VHS format always has a nice nostalgic feeling to it. However none of the characters were really memorable or interesting and in general the movie didn't have much to offer in terms of entertaining the audience. For me it was just one of these 'meh' movies that I have a decent time watching and immediately forget about after. Sadly that is not enough to make this an entertaining flick that I would recommend. However if you are particularly interested in these kind of movies you might like it. [5,1/10]
Considering we're less than a decade into obliterating black tropes in horror, I'm excited to see daring films like this. Script is a little flimsy and probably could have better spent the budget on some production design, but the acting is solid and the story works. The 80's-90's setting, which feels somewhat derivative of Peele, plays well into the surrealism.
Elvis Nolasco delivers on the assignment of his character, borrowing from legendary performances like Gene Wilder's, Wonka and Clarence William's, Mr. Simms. Although he lacks the physicality they both had.
But honestly, the steam escapes pretty quickly and we're left with a soggy, fantasy-horror.

It's a Mr. Rogers/Pennywise mash-up for 90s kids who are raising kids of their own now. Blending the saccharine creepiness of kids shows and dozens of classic tropes from supernatural horror of decades past.
Buuuut... it's also a Hulu movie, and of made-for-streaming quality. The short film it's based on only came out in 2022, and the quality has strong vibes of needing more time and more money. The pacing is all over, and viewers will probably get the feeling that there's a bunch of scenes on a cutting room floor that might make a few of the leaps of faith in the story easier.
That being said, the movie has more than enough going for it to stand on it's own. The acting from Jerrika Hinton and especially Elvis Nolasco is exceptional. The Crocket set designs are imaginative, and well executed. The creature designs are fun and creepy, and the decision to stick mostly to practical fx was a wise one, because the few bits of CGI they did include aren't great.
Overall, it's a fun creepy movie well worth the watch if the feeling strikes you. Doubtful that it'll become some new must-see franchise, but if Hulu and other services continue putting more effort and money into their horror entries, it's a very good sign of things to come.

Haven't seen a horror movie quite like it.
Predictable but if you're bored it's worth a watch.
It's amazing how people don't scream when a normal person would.
It's pretty gory.
Mr crocker is a good actor.
It's really not very much to the movie and not much that I can say without giving parts of the movie away.
The movie poster was interesting enough for me to consider giving it a watch. It's not one of those movies you'd watch again.
Lot of cursing, especially for there to be kids in the movie, and during the scenes with all the unnecessary cursing.
I think it's a solid five out of ten stars.

This movie is absolitely incredible, i loved almost everything about it, its probably better to start off with the premise, which is extremely good, this is baaically mr. Rodgers meets freddy krueger, meets art the clown, you've got the great motive of a childrens show host of mr rodgers, the hilarity and creativity of freddy kruger, and the brutality of art the clown, the actimg in this movie is also absolutely incredible with all of the actors doing a solid job, the effects is this movie are also pretty damn impressive, especially the puppetry, this movie also has some great scares, but with that said not everything about this movie is perfect, probably my biggest problem with the movie, is the fact that even though its only 87 minutes, it feels like it drags on, but overall even though it can drag a bit i still highly reccomend watching this movie at least once.

This is a movie I heard about when it first premiered at Fantastic Fest last month, so I decided to wait and give it a watch. After watching the movie, I had a fun time with Mr. Crocket (2024) while also having some problems.
Positives for Mr. Crocket (2024): I have to say that this premise is very interesting on paper and it's done well in execution. The idea of the horror villain, in the vain of Freddy Krueger, has a lot of potential. Elvis Nolasco does a good job with his performance as Mr. Crocket. He manages to make Mr. Crocket both scary and charismatic at the same time. I also liked Jerrika Hinton as the main protagonist Summer as she manages to make this character easy to root for. The FX and kills are great with some very good practical effects for some of the death scenes and creature designs. And finally, the movie leaves off in a place where I can see a sequel happening.
Negatives for Mr. Crocket (2024): The movie's script is a little mess here. It feels like a first draft that needed to be worked on more. The backstory and origin for Mr. Crocket was not the most interesting way I would've gone. There are also some performances here that were very weak. The young son of our main protagonist was little annoying to watch and he got on my nerves. And finally, the movie was a little too short and I wish they could've explore more stuff in the movie.
Overall, Mr. Crocket (2024) is a fun little horror movie with some potential to become a franchise. I just wish the script was ironed out a little more, but for what I got I enjoyed watching.

I'm the one reviewing the movies that my wife and I watch, and most of the times we rate the movies with the same score but in this case she was clearly less impressed by the movie than me. She gave it a four and I gave it a six so a five it is then. I agree that it weren't the greatest actors although Elvis Nolasco was creepy enough to be convincing. The gore was really cheap but it looked funny though, which also showed we were dealing with a low budget here. Writer/director Brandon Espy had good ideas in my opinion, but maybe he could have used a higher budget to make it look more spectacular.

Boy this movie was hard work. Everything about it, the dialogue, the characters and the morals were all over the place. It was a really unpleasant watch and a grind to get through.
Apparently trying to make your son eat his vegetables is worthy of a death warrant? Was there no other thing they could've had the father doing to justify this a little more?
The dialogue at times is nothing short of bizarre. A mum searching for her missing son is talking to a man and he says something like, "You know what will cheer you up? Ice cream" and she replies "What the f&%# are you talking about?" A truly bizarre exchange that I can't believe was ever written down, let alone made the final movie.
And don't even get me started on the jingle that we hear 'Mr Crocket' single a thousand times over and over. It doesn't sound good and it doesn't make any sense. Absolutely zero sense. So frustrating.
This one is not scary, not interesting and not worth your time. 3/10.

I wanted to like this so badly as I love the concept so so so much but the intro felt so rushed. I'd love for it to have an extra min or so to build some tension but was instantly rushed into mr crocket climbing out of the tv and killing the dad. Tbh it's most likely me rushing to conclusions but this is one of the first movies I've had to turn off due to losing interest in the first 20 mins. If u love creepy, weird concept horror movies then u may like this but just don't go into it expecting an amazing film. I honestly believe it's worth a try reading other reviews just personally was not for me.
