While suffering from editor's insomnia, I rented Behold The Claw from Indie Creator Stephen Edward Reid. This did not help my insomnia! It kept me watching until my eyes turned red, making me look like a zombie from 28 Days Later the next morning.
The film's beautifully shot style makes you feel like you are spying on this group of online friends as they look for the Loch Ness monster without knowing that the real monster around them is of the human psychopathic kind. I'd never seen these actors before, but they delivered such believable performances that I anticipate seeing them in many great films. Hopefully, more horror!
No spoilers, but the nameless male character (credited as Gustav) and his bestie, Hammer, come straight out of the pages of classic pulp horror stories. Some people might compare this to The Blair Witch Project-but hell no! This is a much better film with a plot that keeps you guessing till the end. It's a perfect example of the kind of unique horror work a creator can achieve with a do-it-yourself punk attitude.
Seven stars. Available on Amazon.
