Excellent/authentic show - Sandler had some hilarious bits and had me rolling laughing. I know the show was staged but it felt authentic and even the audience wanting to fight at one point was hilarious. He brings his musical abilities to show and funny song writing as well. Honestly could have watched this for another hour it was that good. I enjoy comedy specials where the audience is more intimate and not a massive arena. If you are not a fan of Sandler then pass on this - but if you enjoy Sandler (without the weird noises) this will be a treat to watch. His ode at the end to comedy was a great way to wrap up this special.

This special is not perfect, I think by choice Josh. Sadie shot it to portray the unfinished feel of the special. It looks like Adam had 20 minutes of good material and filled the rest not every joke lands, but it's an intimate hour with Adam. His strengths in stand up has always been his songs, there are no instant classic songs there are some fun ones that me chuckle. I will admit at times when he is telling a joke the consistent laughing during the set up is annoying as it's out of place and feels forced. You can see Adam's influences in comedy during the special as his jokes are these absurdist situations to set up a punch line. It is an an older styler of doing stand up not everything lands but it is great to listen too. I would prefer to listen to him pulling from his real life and telling jokes based on his experiences as one of the biggest comedy figures of the last 30 years that is what people want to hear. I do respect him doing different and doing a more traditional stand up style, as his songs are the highlight of the special. In the end if you like Adam you will enjoy the special it is rough but it doesn't hide that fact.

I couldn't be a bigger fan of Adam Sandler historically but Jesus Christ this is just a chore. It's not good I'm just going to lay it out there I'm being kind by giving it a six because like I said I love Adam Sandler but this is barely watchable I'm in the throes of the last few minutes of it and writing this review. I don't know what this is or who is for but it is painful to watch. He was a comedic talent but his career instead of humor has pivoted away from what is funny these days it's just not working on any level from my viewpoint. He's better off going down the dramatic track because that seems more successful these days but I will save you the time and embarrassment of trying to watch this because it's like his attempt to be a pure musician / comedian, don't know I really can't describe what the hell this is.

The bad: it lasts too long, it just does, 30 minutes or even 45 minutes would have been perfect, but I got bored after a while, because after the 10th s)*t and s*x joke they started to sound the same.
There is no dramatic arch in this performance. Heck no, it's just random s*x and s(*t jokes. NONstop. NO story. NO message. That's okay but you better make sure those s*x jokes are really good then, but unfortunately they were more of the kind of jokes teenagers would make. Can be fun for once or twice, but not for 75 minutes on end.
This material must have been an actual debut performance because Adam Sandler was constantly laughing about his own jokes, up to a point that it became embarrassing becausing he was laughing harder about his own (s*x) jokes than the audience.
Not any good? What was really to like though was hearing Adam Sandler play the acoustic guiter, the bass guitar and the electric guitar. This guy can really play! I am not kiddin'. He can not sing though, he sounds awful, but that's only contributing to the comical effect of his short songs which are basically long (s*x) jokes.
For sure this is definitely not the greatest stand up performance, but not terrible either. Should have been cut shorter though, because I got BORED.

This is the world in which Sandler became a superstar, and I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that I haven't revisited much of his work since I left for college. The jokes weren't great then, and they've only gotten worse since. Sandler put us all through a truly grotesque late prime; I think even his most ardent defenders would struggle to go to bat for Click, or Pixels, or the Boschian nightmare of Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2. (Ten percent and 8 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively.) The Sandler cinematic formula wore thin quickly. There were a lot of fart jokes. A lot of poop jokes. And a potentially lethal dose of Rob Schneider.

Adam Sandler, so talented. Adam stuck to what he knows which is perfectly crafted comedy. He knows his audience And knows that he can be himself amongst his fans. Makes comedy look so easy. Loved it loved it loved it. Adam clearly loves his craft, and I just thought to myself, " How awesome is it to see someone reach their dreams so young and continue creating new dreams and goals that he desires to." So many people keep their dreams to themselves and don't ever see them realized. This Netflix special really reflects the respect he has for all of those comedians before him that Really granted permission for Adam to do whatever he wanted to do because they did it too. Perfect! So proud of you, Adam!
I would like to start this review by stating a disclaimer that I have been a fan of Adam Sandler through all of his movies. The great ones and the bad ones. There, I said it. But I believe that's what's fans are supposed to do. Stick through the highs and the lows and occasionally, they ll hit the bullseye every once in a while. And that is exactly what the Sandman has done with this special.
This special plays out like an unbelievable skit. Or a sketch. I don't know because I just like comedy. I don't know the terms or depths of it. But Adam does. He has been extremely serious about comedy for a big part of his career and it shows. And in this seriousness lies the comedic funniness that makes us all laugh. And it makes us enjoy life a little better. Everything that happens in this special happens for a reason. Side note - Adam is good at playing basketball and playing the guitar and you are going to see one of these talents at display in this special.
In the paraphrased immortal words of Arnold's character from the Predator - stick around for the end of this shindig.

I thought the beginning was going to be the only scripted part like other comedy specials, but the whole thing is scripted, and not very well. The only parts that are kind of funny are the songs. I'm not sure if we're supposed to act like it is real and watch it like that, or we're supposed to know it's scripted. It's very bizarre and kind of depressing watching because I really enjoyed his last stand up special. I was waiting for some sort of twist where it's supposed to be a movie or something, but it never happened. Watching this actually made me feel really uncomfortable. I feel like I'm living in an alternate reality watching this. Not sure how else to put it.

I'm not saying that this isn't for young people, but there are just too many moments and jokes in this show that you need to experience yourself before fully understanding and appreciating them.
This isn't your typical stand-up, and I didn't realize how much I needed this.
I think Sandler is trying to convey with this show that you're not supposed to take life too seriously. Life can be sad, sudden, joyful, and it will go on. I recognized all these emotions while watching the show. I haven't laughed this much in a while. I also felt other emotions, and it's comforting to know that Sandler and other celebrities experience what I/we feel.
In life, things will happen that you didn't expect, and you just have to hold on and go with the flow.
I believe if you've lived long enough, you will appreciate this stand-up very much.

You will definitely resonate with this special more if you followed Adam's earlier works. I used to listen to his tapes at school in the early 90's. I remember laughing with friends and talking about his jokes and songs. Part of the fun in this special is "&^$ goes wrong and you think it's on purpose but you kinda don't know. My only issues was sometimes it was hard to hear what he was saying or singing. If you like Sandler, you will have a good time! And that's all that matters, it was a very fun hour for me and I'm thankful for the reminders of early days and memories that came flooding back.

I think Adam Sandler nailed it and created something totally unique that he can be incredibly proud of -and which deserves critical praise. It was comedy AND it was entertainment, it was different & creative, it was old Sandler, Dad Sandler, Husband Sandler and aging Gen X Sandler. I laughed and I cried. The audience was great and you could feel the intimacy of the space through the screen. The "guest appearance" was perfection and the timing was masterful when in its wake Sandler took viewers from a joyful high and funneled that energy into to a beautifully emotional close. I was impressed with his singing, musical ability and fresh take on new material that remained true to the oddly awesome Sandler we fell for in the 90's. I think it was a master class and quite impressive by any standard but especially so following a long hiatus. It was brave.

I've been a fan of Sandler's since his SNL days. Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison came out while I was in high school and we watched them incessantly. His comedy album "They're All Gonna Laugh at You" (1993) is one of the greatest ever. Based on these early years, he became a comedy icon.
This new "comedy" show bears no resemblance to any of that former greatness. Did I expect it want it to be exactly the same as that old stuff? No. Did I expect it to be funny? Yes. It is not. He just awkwardly mumbles his way from line to line laughing at himself more than I laughed at him. It all felt "phoned in" and just something he did because maybe he was bored. Don't waste your time.

Seen a lot of reviews saying "this wasn't it", "scripted, and not well", "not funny".
This was absolutely brilliant comedy. If you didn't find it funny, you didn't understand it. Sandman is a genius. I expected little going into this. The show just keeps building on itself until I found myself out of breath with laughter. Even my wife, who is not the biggest fan of Sandler's 90's and early 2000's projects, couldn't contain her laughter. This guy is so talented, so funny, and still so humble. His musical abilities are very impressive. Had me crying tears of joy and laughter, and at the end, just tears. What a beautiful surprise. 10/10.

Brilliant. Best stand up I've had the pleasure of watching for a while. Top shelf jokes that really made me laugh. The balloon one & the dictionary brother one had me in stitches.
Then again the Funky bass skit & the immaculate higher vocal on the daughter still needs me for party alcohol supplies is classic. The Sandman actually delivers from start to finish. It's all quite remarkable & will claim a spot in some of the greatest comedy in history i reckon. Maybe I'm a little musically byassed. I admire the compliment he gives the keyboard dude .I think that's the start of the daughter one.
Respect to u Adam, love ur work man.
Here's one for ur next ...as if u haven't blown audiences away enough... Go an open D tuning on 1 of ur guitars & grab a thick glass slide ,Do a bluesy 1 4 5 progression ....start with an Elmore James open & slide that baby up to the 12th fret....& I'll leave the lyrics in ur capable hands (mind) George Thorogood & Billy Gibbons will love it but George will be in Open G & Jesus Gibbons just left Chicago...& he's bound for New Orleans !

In an age where so much preparation goes into stand up comedy specials.. Adam Sandler unassumingly makes his way onto a small stage in an average venue, has several things technically go wrong, wins over the crowd with his charm, and is very funny.
He had both short and long 'bits' that just 'worked'.. and who knew he could play guitar!
I knew him as a funny movie writer/actor.. then I saw his serious roles in his latest movie to be impressed again.
I have not seen him perform outside of his movies before so I had no expectations of his stand up. He is very talented and this has added to my appreciation of him. Great show!

I love Adam Sandler. I have been an Adam Sandler fan for as long as I can remember. This is so disappointing. By far, his worst work. In fact, one of the poorest standup specials I've ever seen. He seems so off his game. He lost me with the 10-min opening weird movie-style sequence of him singing autographs, speaking with a kidnapped child, and another kid who was visibly facially injured and covered in blood. It's just super weird, but not in a good way. Lazy from a guy of his caliber, I wish he had spent more time developing his act instead of putting out whatever this was. I wish I hadn't seen this, as it's made me respect him a bit less, which sucks. 1/10.

Directed by Josh Safdie, it's a brand new approach to Live Stand Up, with the Safdie Brothers aesthetic. LOVE YOU is filled with memorable moments by the Sandman, so get ready to laugh hard, and cry. It's a love poem to Comedy, and to those who have trascended evolving it. LOVE YOU feels very experimental, as the magic occurs between very well scripted "unexpected mishaps". Also the musical moments are filled with love and creativity, do expect a unique guest appearance in one of the Music bits, of a long time Compadre of the Sandman. I watched it some nights ago, and are already considering enjoying it again this weekend: that type of show it is.

We are big fans of Adam Sandler, so of course we had to watch this special, but boy, were we disappointed. It was hard to tell if this was some sort of weird movie or an actually stand up routine. It felt like a bad reality show with all its "issues" which felt awkward and inauthentic, not to mention the confusing setup in regards to the flow of the show. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason to the order of the jokes and songs, which by the way, were dry and crude, rather than the classic wackiness we're used to getting from the Sand Man. The final song was great, but did little to detract from the rest of the show, and we've seen it before in one of his other stand up specials. Over all, we were bored, disillusioned and generally had the ick once the program was said and done. Would not recommend to long time fans - or new watchers, for that matter - since this was a huge let down. Truly sad that we even felt the need to write a review like this.

The latest collaboration between Josh Sadie and Adam Sandler masterfully blends Sandler's musical monologue from "Sandman" with the signature cinematic style of comedy, characterized by its handheld camera work and high tension-especially evident in the opening scene.
One of the standout aspects of this production is how they embraced all the mistakes, accidents, and random moments of chaos that would typically be edited out. This authenticity adds a refreshing layer to the comedy, making it feel more relatable and genuine.
The final song, accompanied by a montage that reflects the journey of comedy, is heartfelt and truly shows Sandler's gratitude for his comedic roots and those who bring joy through laughter. Additionally, the segment featuring the genie is a delightful highlight that further showcases the creativity of the show.
I was not prepared to find myself in tears by the end, moved by the poignant song about comedy. Bravo, Adam! Your ability to blend humor with heartfelt moments continues to resonate deeply with audiences.
