Directed by Saket Chowdhary
Irrfan Khan was last seen taking on corrupt forces in Madaari. He is back , this time to question the educational system in our country whereby children are inducted into posh English-medium schools only after a ridiculous amount of time money and energy is invested into ensuring the child’s future.
Irrfan + Social Issue, bound to work. He is known to be a thinking actor with very definite views of politics and culture.
The trauma that parents face is here alchemized into something smile-inducing and heartwarming, something quite magical in its ability to hit us where it hurts the most without damaging our sense of self-worth. Farhan Akhtar started his acting career in 2008 [Rock On], followed it up with Luck By Chance in 2009, experimented with Karthik Calling Karthik [2010] and then hit a high with Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara [2011]. Post that, he delivered a major hit with Bhaag Milkha Bhaag [2013].
Another interesting factor about Farhan and his Bollywood career is the fact that in his nine films that have released in last eight years, he has always seen a new leading lady opposite him. This is what makes Rock On 2 special since this time around, he is paired with a new leading lady, Shraddha Kapoor.

After receiving a tremendous response for its trailer, with close to 1.7 million views, now there’s much demand for the song of Anu Menon’s ‘Waiting’! The song ‘Tu hai toh main hoon’, which plays in the background of the trailer, has caught everyone’s attention and the audience clearly wants more of it. Giving in to the demand, the makers are now contemplating changing the order of the song release from what they had planned initially.
Music composer Mikey McClearly is known to spin background score and songs high on youth appeal and this is no different. He has earlier worked on films including Margarita with a Straw, Shaitan, Shanghai, David, Bombay Velvet, Nautanki Saala, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, Shaandaar. February – The month of Luuuuurve. The month where every film channel goes nuts showing Hindi cinema’s most romantic films…the radio channels go nuts playing the dulcet tones of Sonu Nigaam, Alka Yagnik and everyone else in-between, and their various romantic numbers and the music channels swing between the sexy videos and the romantic videos. Why? All because of Valentine’s Day. The day for which businesses get a free license to decorate their premises with pink and red hearts and cute babies in nappies pointing a little arrow at you. And why would the film industry not join in with the madness with romantic or psycho-romantic films releasing in time for the big day.
The Hindi film industry has a lot to answer for in my opinion when it comes to romance. Hindi cinematic releases always show the perfect romance. The perfect location, the perfect setting, the perfect food the perfect partner…...

”Silver Screen” by Fawzan Husain is a series of images taking a closer look at our prolific film industry “Bollywood”.
Everything that is so essentially ‘Bollywood’…the varied components that come together, and work in harmony to make a film are depicted in Fawzan’s photographs. He shoots a different view of Bollywood by capturing behind the scenes action on the sets: no frontal portraits, no posing for his camera. His photographs portray the real picture, the real people without the glamour, artifacts and ‘larger than life’ idea usually associated with Bollywood Silver Screen led him to `Beyond Silverscreen’. A look at how we Indian’s have fascination with our Filmy folks. Once he started looking around, he could see them all around, Apart from the billboards he could find them in restaurants, on Kites, in gyms, in rickshaws. Some were using them as decoration while some to lure their fans or crazy customers,...

We all know what a fantastic actress Vidya Balan is. But for some reason or the other, her last few films like Ghanchakkar, Shaadi Ke Side Effects and Bobby Jasoos, didn't do well.
Ask Vidya if failures affect her personally and she says, "Failures are disappointing. And they do affect you when a film you've invested in so much in, doesn't work. Like I was heartbroken after Ghanchakkar. After Shaadi Ke Side Effects I had learnt to deal it better because I already had Ghanchakkar before. And by Bobby Jasoos, I had two before. I cry, get angry but with my closest people I get it out of my system so that I can move on. I make sure it's not bigger in my head than it actually is."
That's a good approach, Vidya. Moving on from something which is bothering you is always nice.

Farhan Akhtar has sung the first duet of his career, and that too for his sister's forthcoming film Dil Dhadakne Do. And accompanying him on this geet trip is none other than our self-styled global crooner Priyanka Chopra who until recently was contract-bound to sing only for her international recording label. Confirming the exciting combo of the Baritone and the seductress, Farhan said, "Yes, Priyanka and I have sung a duet in Dil Dhadakne Do." So far Farhan had only rendered solo songs in Rock On, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara and Shaadi Ke Side Effects. Priyanka begged off requests to sing in Zanjeer and Mary Kom claiming to be contract-bound. The temptation of singing with Farhan however liberated Ms Chopra. According to sources, Farhan and Priyanka have sung a "smouldering smoky love ballad steeped in nostalgia and longing." Needless to say the song has been filmed on Farhan and Priyanka,...

2014 was a fantastic year for music in Indian Cinema. We saw a definite shift from formularistic numbers to more nuanced tunes in step with the respective screenplays they would be featured alongside. Music directors were bold and brave, breaching familiarity and conventions to taking risks and we could not be more mesmerised by the results. Hamlet was adapted to a gritty and raw musical by Vishal Bhardwaj. Ankit Tiwari and Mithoon basically defied gravity by re-creating the magic of Aashiqui 2 with Ek Villian. Read on as Bollyspice closely chronicles 2014’s top 10 music directors.
10. Jeet Gangulay
Jeet Gangulay’s Citylights was the silent hit of 2014 with Arjit Singh’s Mukurane becoming a crowd favourite from the get-go followed closely by Mohd. Irfan’s unplugged version of the song. While Youngistan did not do well at the box office, Gangulay’s ‘Sangemarmar’ definitely left a mark. Similarly, ‘Sun Le Zara’ from Singham was equally effective.

For the music of the films of 2014, the composers brought in classic voices, new vocal sounds and vibes and even an actress or two to bring their songs to life. Usually we limit our list to the 5 Best Female Singers but this year we had to expand to 10 in order to highlight their fabulous performances.
10. Shraddha Kapoor

Bollywood churns out on average 120 plus films a year, with 2014 reaching 142. So to think all of them will go down in history as being successful is rather naive. But what about the ones we thought would work wonders but came up short? The ones that left us thinking, “Why was this allowed past the editing board”? Even ones that somehow managed to cha-ching the money registers sky high. 2014 had its fair share of films that fit all these categories. BollySpice brings you the biggest disappointments of 2014.

While on a personal front, she has gained good appreciation and acknowledgment for her Bobby act, Vidya is now stepping into a romantic zone after a hiatus with Hamari Adhuri Kahaani which is all set to go on floor. For Vidya, it is a different territory altogether as the last film with a strong romantic element was Ishqiya (2010) and that too had its own share of deceit, intrigue and suspense element to it. Oscars buzz boosts UK box office and whether growling on a plane or voicing an animation, it's Liam Neeson's moment
• Review of The Lego Movie
• Review of Non-Stop
• More on the UK box office
The winner
Adding another £4.79m in the past seven days, The Lego Movie now stands at a sturdy £26.67m after three weeks of play. That puts it level with the lifetime tallies of blockbusters including Spider-Man 2 (£26.72m) and Ocean's Eleven (£26.47m), and ahead of fellow animations including Ratatouille (£24.80m) and Wall-e (£22.91m). The Lego Movie will pretty soon overtake the likes of Shrek (£29m) and A Bug's Life (£29.45m) and is clearly headed into the mid-30s (£m).
Although box office for The Lego Movie is certainly skewed to the weekend, its decent performance in the Monday-to-Thursday period suggests that it is picking up a true adult audience, rather than merely adult chaperones of children.

After the success of Pyaar Ke Side Effects, writer-director Saket Chaudhary dives further into relationships by examining the “side effects” of marriage in Shaadi Ke Side Effects. The film stars Farhan Akhtar and Vidya Balan, both of whom have been on quite a roll lately. They say they hadn’t even met, let alone become friends, before the film, but their easy-going chemistry leapt out immediately in the trailers.
In summary, Sid and Trisha Roy have grown up into different actors from Pyaar Ke Side Effects and gotten married. Beyond that, there really isn’t much of a plot here. Sid and Trisha have a baby. Sid is not happy, Trisha pretends to be. Sid starts lying to his wife to be happy. It inevitably blows up in his face. They reconcile without actually fixing anything.
Unfortunately, that pretty much is the story. What starts off as a wonderful concept...

We Are What We Are | The Book Thief | Non-Stop | Ride Along | As The Palaces Burn | Unforgiven | Funny Face
We Are What We Are (18)
(Jim Mickle, 2013, Us) Bill Sage, Ambyr Childers, Julia Garner. 103 mins
The story of an archaic backwoods family with very good reasons for their insularity, this spends such a long time laying out its twisted domestic set-up, it's almost as if it's in denial about being a horror movie (remade from a Mexican original). It's a wise decision. If you don't know the family's Big Secret already, it would be a shame to spoil it; let's just say it pulls the story into real shock and gore territory.
The Book Thief (12A)
(Brian Percival, 2013, Us/Ger) Sophie Nélisse, Geoffrey Rush, Emily Watson. 131 mins
A smart but syrupy wartime tale that traverses well-trodden territory – from The Reader to Life Is Beautiful – as a young girl is adopted by goodly Germans,...

Film: "Shaadi Ke Side Effects"; Cast: Vidya Balan, Farhan Akhtar, Vir Das and Purab Kohli; Director: Saket Chaudhary; Rating: ****
"When I do something wrong, I say sorry to my wife. When my wife does something wrong.... I say sorry to my wife."
One of the gems that flows out of Farhan Akhtar's mouth while addressing the oldest question on the gender equation: what does a woman really want in a marriage? Could it be the same things as a man? Maybe the route taken by the two individuals is different?Director Saket Chaudhary raises some pertinent questions on the fake road-signs that could lead to an aborted marriage. Not all of the winking homilies work. But the film holds together primarily because of the intelligent writing.

Shaadi Ke Side Effects sees two Bollywood heavyweights, actor-director-producer-musician extraordinaire Farhan Akhtar and the incorrigible Vidya Balan come together for a comedy about the struggles of a young married couple to keep the spark of romance alive as their family life progresses.
Pritam, yet another Bollywood heavy champion, fresh off his success of Dhoom 3 is at the helm of the film’s soundtrack with lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattcharya. It features the vocal talents of Neeti Mohan (‘Jiya’ – Jab Tak Hai Jaan), Arjit Singh (‘Tum Hi Ho’ – Aashiqui 2), Mohit Chauhan (‘Sadda Haq’ – Rockstar) and Farhan Akhtar amongst others.
Harry’s Not A Brahmachari is loud and ordinary. And having 3 supposedly different versions of it does little to change that opinion.
I‘m Sorry Par Tumse Pyar Ho Gaya has several likeable elements and mostly eliminates the bad first impression from its predecessor. Nikhil Paul George’s lazy-cool vocals interspersed...
