Rumored couple Ross Lynch and Jaz Sinclair are getting down on TikTok! On Jan. 17, the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina costars hit up Balmain's menswear show at Paris Fashion Week and looked like a million bucks. But before they arrived at the glitzy event, the adorable duo prepared for the outing with a mini dance session. Ross, who made his debut on TikTok, shared a clip of them jamming out to Bruno Mars' 2012 hit "Treasure." The video begins with Ross and Jaz in their robes before they high-five and are suddenly dressed to the nines. They dance toward the camera, giving us a cute little spin, and end with a fierce pose.
Ross and Jaz first sparked romance rumors in Spring 2018 but have yet to officially confirm or deny their relationship. In January, Ross told Entertainment Tonight that they were simply each other's "favorite," but also revealed that Jaz met his family,...

Oh, the irony! I’ve been covering Hollywood industry awards as a journalist for 30 years and now I’m nominated for the Press Award bestowed by Hollywood’s leading PR guild: Icg Publicists. It’s so gracious of them – thank you, huzzahs to all – but now I’ll get a toxic dose of what I report on all the time: nominee jitters.
Uh-oh: do my Hollywood industry peers really, really like me? Should I campaign aggressively? Rent out billboards on Sunset Boulevard? What should I wear on Feb. 7 when the winner is revealed at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in the same room where the Golden Globes are doled out?
Lucky for me, I know the drill. I’ve been nominated, and lost, twice in the past. Only 16 more defeats and I’ll be the Susan Lucci of the Publicists’ Award! So, please, save me: spread the word across town — Vote for Tom!

Charlie Hunnam wants another shot at King Arthur. In a recent interview with SiriusXM to promote Guy Ritchie’s upcoming action movie “The Gentlemen,” Hunnam reminisced about the box office catastrophe that was his last Ritchie outing, 2017’s “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.” Ritchie’s fantasy epic was one of the biggest box office bombs of 2017. The $175 million Warner Bros. tentpole opened in May to just $14.7 million during its debut weekend. “King Arthur” tapped out with $39 million in the U.S. and $146 million worldwide, losing Warner Bros. as much as $153 million.
Hunnam was being interviewed on SiriusXM by Andy Cohen when he revealed that he’s keen on a “King Arthur” redo. The actor said that Ritchie’s 2017 “King Arthur” was just the first movie being planned in a franchise, one that got killed by the box office performance.

Adam Pally is a lifelong “Star Wars” fan who got the chance of a lifetime when he was cast to play a Scout Trooper on “The Mandalorian.” What he didn’t know at the time is that he would do something that would make his character more hated than Jar Jar: he had to punch Baby Yoda.
Pally appeared in the Disney+ show’s season finale alongside Jason Sudekis as a pair of scouts tasked with delivering the powerfully Force sensitive Baby Yoda to Moff Gideon, played by Giancarlo Esposito. Pally’s scout, curious about why the alien child was so wanted, stuck his finger out at Baby Yoda, who bit it. In response, Pally gives Baby Yoda a hard jab.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Pally was asked about the scene at the Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour on Saturday, where he was promoting the upcoming NBC comedy “Indebted.

Lily Tomlin stands with her Grace and Frankie scene partner Jane Fonda — even in handcuffs.
In a new interview with The New York Times, Tomlin, 80, gushed about her costar on the Netflix comedy — which enters its sixth and penultimate season in January 2020 — noting Fonda’s passion for political activism.
“I support Jane; Jane is a real toughie,” said Tomlin, who described Fonda’s commitment to the cause as so strong that she once asked to halt production on the show so that she could protest, though she eventually found a compromise.

One of the biggest criticisms thrown at “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” since its nationwide release December 20 is the reduced role of Rose Tico, a Resistance member played by Kelly Marie Tran. Rose was introduced in “The Last Jedi” and became a point of contention for some toxic “Star Wars” fans. Tran had to wipe her Instagram account clean after becoming the victim of online harassment from “Star Wars” fans who disliked Rose and Tran’s hiring. Many Rose Tico fans were hopeful the character would continue to be a major character in “The Rise of Skywalker,” but as it turns out Rose is mostly removed from the entirety of the film.
Rose pops up near the beginning of “The Rise of Skywalker” as the main characters get ready to take off to the desert planet Pasanna to begin their mission. Finn tells Rose she won’t be going...

If you've ever wondered what a mashup of This Is Us and Lip Sync Battle would look like, Netflix's Soundtrack will surely satiate your curiosity. The show follows a group of interconnected people in Los Angeles as they grapple with different types of love - romantic, familial, platonic, you name it. This concept plays out in a relatively familiar way, using music to usher in the narrative of each story. But in contrast to something like 2018's A Star Is Born, where the music was recorded live, Soundtrack features actors 100 percent lip-syncing to pop songs.
Lip-synced performances were always part of creator Joshua Safran's original pitch for the show. Safran took inspiration from the BBC series and Steve Martin movie Pennies From Heaven, which both feature people lip-syncing to popular songs. Each hour-long episode will feature several music-video-like fantasy sequences that elevate the characters' less-than-glamorous realities.

Thor: Ragnarok was such a smash-hit in 2017 that Marvel has invited director Taika Waititi back to helm a follow-up. Thor: Love and Thunder is significant for being the first time a sub-franchise of the McU has received a fourth installment and the filmmaker needs to make sure that the God of Thunder doesn’t outstay his welcome. Thankfully, then, it seems that Waititi’s tactic is to go all out on making it even bigger than Ragnarok.
While speaking to Entertainment Weekly – who named him one of their Entertainers of the Year – about Lat, the director explained that he’s going to focus on making his next Marvel effort all about the “adventure” and the craziness. Essentially, if you enjoyed Ragnarok, you’ll enjoy this one.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Watchmen” Episode 9, “See How They Fly” — the season finale.]
“Watchmen” ended its nine-episode debut season with a perfect finale (read IndieWire’s review here) that capped off a series many critics have already added to their best of the decade lists at the last minute. By all accounts “Watchmen” had an extraordinary run and is one of the major TV achievements of 2019, and yet creator and showrunner Damon Lindelof isn’t completely satisfied with the final product. In an end-of-season interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lindelof shares his biggest regret about his iteration of the “Watchmen” story: Not enough Lady Trieu (Hong Chau).
“I wish we had done a deeper dive on Lady Trieu, that we had gone back into her past and showed her childhood because we talked a lot about that,” Lindelof said. “That would have been really interesting and maybe made us care a lot more about that...

At the climax of 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Kylo Ren famously tells Rey that her parents were nothing more than “filthy junk traders” who sold her off for drinking money.
The moment was a bold and deliberate subversion of the saga’s Skywalker-centric history that’s had the fans fighting ever since, but in a new TV spot for The Rise of Skywalker, we get the latest of many hints that director J.J. Abrams intends to walk back this divisive twist.
“I know who you are,” Kylo says through the speaker of his helmet. “I know the rest of your story.” We then cut to a shot of Rey against a desert backdrop, followed by the familiar sound of Palpatine’s laughter. And while filmgoers will presumably have to wait until next week’s release to find out what exactly the young Ben Solo is getting at here,...

(Spoilers ahead for, you know, the ending of “The Man in the High Castle.” You have been warned.)
Amazon’s “The Man in the High Castle” was always kind of a weird show, with its heady sci-fi alternate universe stuff on top of its heady alternate history main plot. I’ve never quite been sure what the writers were trying to do with this pairing of concepts that it inherited from the Philip K. Dick novel, and the wild ending of the series did not offer a huge amount of clarity about that.
So as we arrive at that final scene, things are looking up in the, ah, Prime Earth of this story. The Japanese have abandoned North America, and the Black Communist Rebellion is setting up a new, presumably much better government. The east coast has autonomy from Germany, and is now being run by a guy who clearly wants the Nazis gone.

Black Widow is introducing a ton of new characters, including Melina Vostokoff. Played by Rachel Weisz, Melina is one of Natasha Romanoff's former "colleagues" from the Soviet Black Widow program, where they, along with many other women, were trained to be master assassins and spies. The first trailer seems to show Melina as a friend or at least an ally to Nat, but readers of Marvel comics know we should be very wary.
In the Marvel comics, Melina Vostokoff is far from a friend to Natasha - in fact, she's one of her major enemies. A Russian assassin under the alias Iron Maiden, Melina holds a particular vendetta against Natasha, who she feels overshadows her in every way. The official Marvel website describes exactly how far she's willing to go to pursue her hatred of Nat:

We don't know much about the hero of The Mandalorian, so there have been tons of theories - including one that he's actually Boba Fett, the villainous bounty hunter who caused problems for the heroes of the original Star Wars trilogy. If you were hoping this theory was true, we have bad news for you: the Mandalorian is not Boba Fett.
The most obvious reason that the helmeted hero is definitely not Boba Fett? The Mandalorian takes place a few years after Return of the Jedi, in which the antagonistic bounty hunter is killed during Luke and company's escape from Jabba the Hutt. Boba Fett is pretty clearly killed without a likely means of escape: his death comes by falling into the maw of the Sarlacc. Being consumed by the Sarlacc is a pretty solid death sentence, and there's no known way out.
Compounding the case for "not Boba Fett...

It seemed inevitable Charlie Kaufman, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” would publish a novel, and as announced by Entertainment Weekly, it’s aptly about a failed film critic. Kaufman’s latest sad sack is the protagonist of “Antkind,” which Random House acquired in 2012 and will release in May 2020. According to the publisher, it’s 720 pages, and described as a “mind-bending opus” — and why would you expect anything less from the man who penned “Being John Malkovich,” and wrote and directed “Synecdoche, New York”?
Here’s the synopsis from Random House: “B. Rosenberger Rosenberg, neurotic and under-appreciated film critic, stumbles upon a hitherto unseen film by an enigmatic outsider — a film he’s convinced will change his career trajectory and rock the world of cinema to its core. Fans of the breakout character from the Disney Plus series “The Mandalorian” have been surprised that there was no merchandise pegged to the character available upon the launch of the show, given that the Christmas shopping season is rapidly approaching.
But according to an individual with knowledge of the situation, that is about to change. Disney is preparing to release a number of products all tied to the character, who is officially referred to simply as The Child at this point. Those products include apparel and accessories and will be available within days, with two T-shirts (see below) already for sale on Amazon. Amazon, Kohls, Target, Macys, Hot Topic, BoxLunch, and Zazzle will all carry the upcoming merch, as will Disney Stores, shopDisney, and Disney theme parks. In addition, fans will be able to pre-order toys and a plush toy sometime in the next few weeks.

“Somebody saaave meee!”… That’s what a lot of folks in the Arrowverse will be saying during the big “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover, but thankfully there’ll be a legion of superheroes around to help them. Including not just one or two, but three separate versions of Superman. There’s Brandon Routh’s Kingdom Come version, Tyler Hoechlin’s Man of Steel, as seen on Supergirl, and Tom Welling’s Clark Kent, star of Smallville. And this new still from the event teases the return of Welling and co-star Erica Durance as Clark and Lois Lane for the first time since The CW’s long-running Supes prequel ended in 2011.
As depicted in set photos and the promo images for the second episode that dropped earlier this week, the still finds the pair at the old Kent farm, which previously appeared in last year’s “Elseworlds.” Going by their expressions and stances,...

As of this weekend, Joker reached a milestone no other R-rated film has yet to achieve: making $1 billion at the box office. The controversial film, which previously raked in $93.5 million in its opening weekend, officially knocked Deadpool out of the top spot as the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time (the Ryan Reynolds action-comedy pulled in $783 million), Entertainment Weekly reports.
In addition to crushing this record, the controversial Todd Philips film - that follows the origin of Batman's most infamous foe and criminal mastermind Arthur Fleck, aka the Joker (Joaquin Phoenix) - nabbed the highest opening weekend in October when it earned almost $94 million. Following its Oct. 4 premiere, Joker went on to bring in $737.5 million in its first three weekends.
Although there are currently no plans for a sequel, we'd bet this isn't the last time we'll see the villainous character onscreen.

More than 20 years after the film’s 1999 theatrical debut, Edward Norton is still ruing the initial box-office failure of David Fincher’s now-iconic Chuck Palahniuk adaptation, “Fight Club.” And he’s no stranger to a box-office bellyflop, as indicated by the performance of his recent directorial outing “Motherless Brooklyn,” which has so far grossed $8 million domestically off a $26 million budget.
On a recent episode of PeopleTV’s Couch Surfing, as reported by Entertainment Weekly, Norton sounded off about the poor performance of “Fight Club,” which despite a Venice premiere and strong reviews, only managed to gross $37 million domestically off a $63 million budget. He points the finger at distributor 20th Century Fox’s marketing job for not fully embracing the movie’s critical takedown of capitalism and toxic masculinity — issues that remain top of mind for filmmakers and audiences today.

Who could ever forget Freddie Prinze Jr.’s role as Sandy, the recorder-playing, hand-puppet-loving, expert “manny” who was the very short-term nanny to Ross (David Schwimmer) and Rachel’s (Jennifer Aniston) baby daughter, Emma, on “Friends”? Well, you could have, if the role had gone to the actor who was going to play the male nanny: Tom Hanks.
“I wasn’t even supposed to be [Sandy], that was originally offered to Tom Hanks but he wasn’t gonna make it back from his film on time,” Prinze told Entertainment Weekly in an interview published Thursday. “And so my agent called me and said, ‘Do you want to be on Friends? And I said, ‘Yeah, I’ll do an episode of ‘Friends.’ That’ll be great.’ He said, ‘Yeah, it shoots tomorrow.’ And I was like, ‘What?’ He said, ‘Yes, tomorrow so I’ll send you the script.'”

Killing Eve's cast is already pretty killer as it is, but it's about to get even bigger and better (and killer-er?) for season three. Entertainment Weekly just revealed a whole slew of actors - seven, to be exact - who will be joining the BBC America series for its highly anticipated third installment, which is slated to premiere in the first half of 2020.
Included in the latest additions are Game of Thrones alum Gemma Whelan and Predrag Bjelac, who portrayed Igor Karkaroff in the fourth Harry Potter movie. BBC America also previously confirmed that Dame Harriet Walter (Succession) and Danny Sapani (Misfits) will be appearing in season three of the spy thriller show. We don't have any information about what roles these new cast members will be playing alongside Jodie Comer's Villanelle and Sandra Oh's Eve Polastri, but we're certainly already mulling over some theories.

The Mountain feels like a departure for Rick Alverson, whose brand of deliberately challenging and unconventional cinema is evolving beyond the scope of his previous two films, The Comedy (2012) and Entertainment (2015). Leaving (partially) behind the examination of what constitutes humor and entertainment both as genre elements and on the larger level of cultural production, the American filmmaker is evolving formally towards a more classical type of storytelling, even if, as we discuss in the interview, he still wants to engage with those tools as a way of critiquing their traditional use.
Going back to the 1950s to build an explicitly political critique of the era’s social values with regards to masculinity, authority and passivity, Alverson uses Andy, a young man neglected by his family, as the access point to the controversial figure of Dr Wallace Fiennes, a traveling lobotomist who cast a long, charismatic shadow.…

Magnolia Pictures has nabbed North American rights to “Mister America,” a feature-length comedy that’s being billed as an extension of the world of “On Cinema,” the cult Adult Swim show.
The film stars “On Cinema” hosts Tim Heidecker and Gregg Turkington and follows Heidecker’s attempt to enter the world of politics. Eric Notarnicola, who previously oversaw several episodes of the show along with its 2018 Oscar special, directs. Magnolia is eyeing a fall theatrical release.
In the movie, Heidecker beats a murder charge for selling faulty e-cigarettes at an Edm festival, and mounts a campaign to unseat the San Bernardino District Attorney. His effort to win voters tries to overcome a lack of experience and funding by leaning into the candidate’s personal likability. It does not go well.
“We unleashed Tim into the real world to run the worst campaign in modern history, and document the process,” said Notarnicola in a statement.

Kino Lorber has acquired North American distribution rights to “The Mountain,” the latest directorial effort from Rick Alverson. The buy arrives just ahead of the movie’s North American premiere in the Spotlight section of the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. “The Mountain” world premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year. 30West negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers.
“The Mountain” stars Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Wallace Fiennes, a lobotomy doctor in the 1950s who hires an introverted young man (Tye Sheridan) to photograph his work during an asylum tour across America. As the tour progresses and Andy witnesses the doctor’s career and life unravel, he begins to identify with the asylum patients. Arriving at a California mountain town, they encounter a French healer (Denis Lavant) who requests a lobotomy for his own daughter (Hannah Gross).

After premiering his last two movies at Sundance, “The Comedy” and “Entertainment” writer/director Rick Alverson is headed to Venice. “The Mountain” stars Jeff Goldblum and Tye Sheridan as a pioneering lobotomist and a young man who’s lost his parents in two different ways, respectively, and anyone who’s seen Alverson’s earlier work knows that the oddity won’t stop there. Ahead of its festival debut, avail yourself of two still photos and the film’s poster.
Speaking to IndieWire earlier this year, Goldblum explained that his character is inspired by Dr. Walter Freeman, “the guy who pioneered the lobotomy, did Rosemary Kennedy’s lobotomy. This is an extrapolation of that kind of character. Drugs have come in, so it’s very controversial what I’m doing.”

Rick Alverson’s films don’t tend to lend themselves to easy elevator pitches or punchy plot descriptions, and the “Entertainment” and “The Comedy” filmmaker’s ambitious next film, “The Mountain,” keeps with that trend. When it was first announced, the period drama, which he wrote alongside Dustin Guy Defa and Colm O’Leary, was billed as the story of “a young man who lost his mother and was raised by his emotional stunted father goes to work with his mentor, a doctor who performs lobotomies and shock therapy.”
And while’s that a relatively meaty description of an Alverson film, it’s only the tip of the iceberg. Just ask the guy playing that lobotomy-giving doctor: Jeff Goldblum.
The actor, who’s next heard in this week’s “Isle of Dogs,” has a packed schedule, including both big budget sequels like “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” and the intriguing “The Mountain.

“Thunder Road” tests the limits of how long one can sit with the unflinching portrait of an angry, broken man whose life is falling apart in every direction, and it turns out it’s about 91 minutes. Writer-director-star Jim Cummings’ adaptation of his acclaimed 2016 short focuses on a wayward police officer who can’t manage to put his life together, largely due to his own simmering rage and sloppy mistakes. Cummings’ unruly performance as the mustachioed anti-hero engenders a paradoxical character study, in which the filmmaker takes to both sides of the camera to beg the audience for empathy, but doesn’t make it easy.
The Grand Jury prize winner at the 2018 SXSW Film Festival is most impressive for its uncompromising magnification of despair, with Cummings as a man who can’t stop traipsing through a trail of banana peels, and while that approach can grow weary it’s also an...

Fine Bros Entertainment (Fbe), the digital media company founded by brothers Benny and Rafi Fine, has come on board as the executive producer of a contest-winning pilot. The main Fbe YouTube channel is the home of Talking To Myself, a project born out of New Form's Pitch To Pilot Campaign.
Talking To Myself, from creator Eric Jaffe, showcases interactions between two people with the same name. In the pilot, the guests also happen to share their handle with a major celebrity: Selena Gomez. Across their five-and-a-half-minute conversation, they discuss awkward introductions, their respective issues with Facebook, and their shared namesake, Tejano music legend Selena Quintanilla. While they chat, they sip coffee provided by Dunkin’ Donuts, one of the sponsors of Pitch To Pilot.
This is not the first time Fbe has used its platform to promote up-and-coming creators. It previously funded series from multiple creators, which it shared on YouTube.

Now in its eighth year, the American Film Festival offers a unique perspective on recent developments in U.S. indie filmmaking. That’s because it happens in Poland, staged at the stylish Kino Nowe Horyzonty film center in Wroclaw, also home to the summer New Horizons festival, which has more of a European tilt.
Although the festival, which recently concluded, surveys many favorites from Sundance and South by Southwest, the curation doesn’t merely transpose selections to a new setting. It imports a lively assortment of filmmakers, as well, and creates a cozy, engaged atmosphere more akin to the communal vibe of the Maryland Film Festival. Indeed, to rub shoulders in a crowd that included Jody Lee Lipes, Noel Wells, Dustin Guy Defa, Nathan Silver, producer Mike Ryan, Jessica Oreck and Mike Ott is to experience a deep dive into the creative bustle of current indie ferment.

Out of options, he tries to live in seclusion to protect others, until the day a woman comes up to him and doesn’t die in his presence. Lemon opens with a title card disclaimer: “This film was photographed and recorded in its entirety in Los Angeles, California.” It’s clear why the setting is important. This isn’t Hollywood, home to celebrities and various success stories. This is L.A., and the amateurishness and desperation of locals looking to make it big is in the air. The film plays to the setting quite a bit. The city’s cultural diversity is explored as director-writer Janicza Bravo and writer-star Brett Gelman inject aspects of their own heritage (and possibly relationship? — the two are married in real life) into the film. Then there’s the heat, which turns the film’s aesthetic as deceivingly bright as its title fruit, and a constant over-reliance on cars that serves as a sort of inside joke for the inhabitants of the city, who become neutered without a means of transportation.

The sad fact about modern weird-for-weird’s-sake micro-indies is that they tend to be even more alike that than the toothlessly quirky Sundance items to which they’re supposed to serve as an antidote. It’s like they’ve all been grown from the same frothy mixture of Adult Swim anti-comedy, vintage lens fetishism, and male pattern baldness. Every now and again a movie like Rick Alverson’s Entertainment might crawl out of this mad-science vat, but more often than not, it’s something like Janicza Bravo’s Lemon, a comedy about a Los Angeles actor (Brett Gelman) who endures one surreal humiliation after another while doing a generally piss-poor job of keeping it together in the face of an impending break-up with his blind girlfriend (Judy Greer). It’s been a few years since the quintessential micro-indie weirdster Quentin Dupieux stopped churning out sporadically irritating and hilarious movies like...

The first thing we see in “Everything Else” is a look of emptiness. Doña Flor (Adriana Barraza), a middle-aged public servant who has spent 35 years engaged in an utterly boring routine, blankly stares at nothing in particular. Soon, we learn why: As a Mexico City clerk tasked with issuing government IDs, her days are spent assessing paperwork and mechanically processing new requests. Much of this quiet, slow-burn character study inhabits the dreary, remote quality of Doña’s existence, but with time, the movie pieces it together to reveal the emotional solitude lurking beneath that distant gaze.
Anyone familiar with Chantal Akerman’s “Jeanne Dielman” or Lucretia Martel’s “The Headless Woman” will find familiar patterns in writer-director Natalia Almada’s first narrative feature, though it may as well be an extension of her documentary work for the way it pulls viewers into the nuances of everyday rituals and their ability to mask psychological discord.

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
Bomb, bomb bomb bomb, Boooooomb! Things just kept getting worse and worse at the box office as this past weekend saw more new releases not meeting up to their potential. The horribly-reviewed horror movie Rings (Paramount) ended up around where I predicted with $13 million, taking second place to M. Night Shyamalan’s Split. The sci-fi romance The Space Between Us (Stx Entertainment) didn’t make much of a mark, opening in ninth place with just $3.8 million with about $1,300 per theater. Robert De Niro’s The Comedian (Sony Classics) tanked worse than many recent movies, making less than a million in 848 theaters or about $1,000 per theater. By comparison, the doc I Am Not Your Negro made about 78% of that amount in 800 less theaters.
