Ruth Ellis was the last woman to be hanged in the United Kingdom after the fatal shooting of her abusive lover. The year was 1955. Thirty years later, Mike Newell’s 1985 movie Dance With a Stranger, starring Miranda Richardson and Rupert Everett, told the story. Now, Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody, Murder on the Orient Express, The Politician) portrays Ellis in the new four-part drama series A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story, which premieres in the U.S. on streaming service BritBox on Monday and aims to tell Ellis’ story through her eyes.
Produced by ITV Studios’ Silverprint Pictures for Itvx, where it will launch in March, and based on Carol Ann Lee’s biography A Fine Day for a Hanging: The Real Ruth Ellis Story, the show also features Toby Jones as Ellis’ lawyer, Laurie Davidson, Mark Stanley, Joe Armstrong, Arthur Darvill, Juliet Stevenson, Toby Stephens, Amanda Drew, and Bessie Carter.

Thanks to breakout roles in the Scream revival, Netflix's Wednesday and last year's Beetlejuice sequel, Jenna Ortega is fast becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, so it probably won't come as much of a surprise to learn that she's being courted by Marvel Studios.
We have previously heard that Ortega was being eyed for a superhero part, but Daniel Richtman is now reporting that the actress is being considered for a big Marvel Cinematic Universe role.
It's always worth noting that Marvel meets with a lot of talent, but if Ortega has actually entered negotiations for an upcoming project, there's a good chance the trades will get hold of the story before too long.
Even if she is in talks, there's no guarantee that things will work out. Ortega has a busy schedule ahead, with a lead role in Taika Waititi's Klara and the Sun adaptation,...

Not many actors have shown the ability to perfectly capture the essence of James Bond in the longstanding film franchise. Before Daniel Craig conquered the role, it was Sean Connery, who perfectly brought Bond to life in seven movies.

Yet, his first encounter with Bond’s creator, Ian Fleming, was far from a positive one. Fleming, a sophisticated former intelligence officer, had a very particular vision for his suave British spy. However, when he met the rugged and unrefined Connery, he was less than impressed.

Johnny Depp has been away from Hollywood for a long time. After all the drama with his ex-wife Amber Heard, he was dropped from Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise as well as from Fantastic Beasts, leading to reports suggesting that he had sworn off Hollywood.

However, fans of the actor would be delighted to know that the actor is coming back to Tinsletown, and collaborating with his Pirates of the Caribbean love interest Penélope Cruz for an action thriller criminal mystery film. While this does not mean that the actor would consider returning to his fan-favorite role of Captain Jack Sparrow, Disney should better sort their priorities and try to get him on board.

Universal Pictures has debuted the first look trailer for ‘Jurassic World Rebirth.’
Anchored by Scarlett Johansson, Emmy and SAG nominee Jonathan Bailey and two-time Oscar® winner Mahershala Ali, this action-packed new chapter sees an extraction team race to the most dangerous place on Earth, an island research facility for the original Jurassic Park, inhabited by the worst of the worst that were left behind.
Five years after the events of ‘Jurassic World Dominion,’ the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.
Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure the genetic material.

Fernanda Torres landed a Best Actress nomination this morning from the American Academy for her leading turn in Walter Salles’ latest I’m Still Here.
Torres is only the second Brazilian actress to receive an Oscar nomination. The first was her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, who was nominated in 1999 for Central Station, also directed by Salles.
I’m Still Here was co-written by Murilo Hauser and Heitor Lorega and is based on Marcelo Rubens Paiva’s memoir of the same name set during Brazil’s military dictatorship in the early 1970s. The central figure is Paiva’s mom Eunice, a mother of five who is forced to reinvent herself and her family after her husband Rubens, a politician and engineer who opposed the regime, became one of the government’s desaparecidos (the disappeared), and was tortured and killed.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree — especially at the Oscars.
I’m Still Here‘s Fernanda Torres and Conclave‘s Isabella Rossellini joined their mothers, Fernanda Montenegro and Ingrid Bergman, respectively, as Oscar nominees on Thursday, becoming the fifth and sixth pairs of mother-daughter duos to be nominated for acting Oscars.
Torres, who cracked the top five in the Best Actress odds after her Golden Globe victory, is up for the award alongside Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), Mikey Madison (Anora), and Demi Moore (The Substance). The nomination comes 26 years after Montenegro was shortlisted in the same category for Central Station and lost to Shakespeare in Love‘s Gwyneth Paltrow.

After a four-decade career in films, Isabella Rossellini scored her first Oscar nomination on Thursday for her supporting role as a Vatican nun in “Conclave.”
The nomination places Rossellini in the Academy history books. She is the daughter of three-time Oscar-winning actress Ingrid Bergman. Her father, the Italian neorealist filmmaking legend Roberto Rossellini was also nominated once, in 1950 for his screenplay for “Paisan.”
Swedish acting legend Bergman is often cited as one of the greatest screen icons of all time, famed for her roles in “Casablanca,” “The Bells of St. Marys” and Alfred Hitchcock’s “Notorious.” She was a seven-time nominee who won three Oscars: two for Best Actress (“Gaslight” and “Anastasia”) and one for Best Supporting Actress (“Murder on the Orient Express”).

As a viewer, it is incredibly easy to get invested in a well-executed mystery, keeping them on the edge of their seats as they try to figure out who did the crime, even movies based on mysteries that were never solved. In recent years, the genre has experienced a new explosion in popularity thanks to the widespread appeal of comedic murder mystery movies like the Knives Out franchise or the revival of the Agatha Christie murder mystery movie.
Of course, not every great mystery movie has received quite as much recognition. In fact, many thrilling mysteries have flown under the radar for many years, failing to attract major audiences despite presenting captivating stories. Sean Connery holds the honor of being the first big screen 007. Connery made his James Bond debut in 1962 with the Terrence Young-directed film Dr. No. Connery went on to star in five more James Bond films — From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice and Diamonds Are Forever — even returning to the franchise after a brief interruption by George Lazenby's one-off Bond film and the non-Eon Bond movie Never Say Never Again. Little did he know at the time that the Bond movies would become one of the biggest action franchises to date.
Bond took up the better part of a decade of Connery's career, beginning in 1962 and ending with Diamonds Are Forever in 1971 in the traditional series. Prior to his death in 2020, Connery went on to have a long acting career after ending his Bond tenure. His first 007 follow-up was The Offence...

The Murder on the Orient Express movies presents one of Agatha Christie's most beloved and classic whodunnits. Hercule Poirot, "little gray cells" and all, travels from Istanbul to Calais on the exotic Orient Express. After the train gets stuck in a snowdrift, a nasty American named Edward Ratchett is murdered and stabbed 12 times. Agatha Christie got the idea from the 1932 Lindbergh kidnapping case when the child of aviator Charles Lindbergh was kidnapped and murdered (via AgathaChristie.com).
Hercule Poirot is on the case and starts investigating the murder. Of course, he eventually solves it, but what happens in the Murder on the Orient Express ending is a classic Christie twist. Over the decades since its publication, Murder on the Orient Express has taken many forms, including films, stage productions, video games, and more. This is thanks to the numerous suspects, the fact that the murder is not what anyone would have expected,...

For years, Adam Sandler had stuck to dysfunctional comedy and subtle humor as his weapon of choice while choosing scripts. Three decades into his career, the comedian joined hands with the Safdie Brothers and shocked the world with his unmatched dramatic performance in Uncut Jewels. Sandler was more than just his laid-back-dude persona and the 2019 film proved that.

It was announced that the actress known for playing Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Daisy Ridley, will be a part of the next trilogy of films. Her role is set to play the same that Alec Guinness portrayed in the original trilogy as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ridley was only 22 when she was announced to star in the sequel trilogy and has had an impressive career thus far. She is the perfect choice to return and be the anchor for the upcoming slate of films.
In The Force Awakens, she worked with Harrison Ford throughout the film. Ford, returning as Han Solo, was a strong mentor to the Rey character in the movie. Now, with her own stand-alone movie and then the three to follow, it would make sense for the actress to follow in Ford's footsteps in the upcoming movies.

Plucked from near-obscurity to more than hold her own as Rey in the Star Wars franchise, Ridley will be here to answer your questions
Daisy Jazz Isobel Ridley was working in a pub when she was cast as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, having previously only appeared in a small number of short films and the 2015 horror-thriller Scrawl.
Around her subsequent Star Wars duties for the remains of the sequel trilogy – which she reprises for a yet untitled upcoming Star Wars film – Ridley swapped her lightsaber for assorted big-screen tales of homicide and rabbits (voicing Cottontail in the massively successful Peter Rabbit cartoon opposite James Cordon).

Although many older mystery movies lose their edge over the years, there are still some classics from the 1970s which can shock modern audiences. More so than most other genres, mystery movies are constantly seeking new innovations and quirks, or else they risk becoming stale and predictable. This means that certain mystery movies have a disappointingly short shelf life. Some old classics prove that this isn't always the case.
The 1970s produced a few outstanding mystery movies which have aged beautifully. Many of these movies adapted the works of revered crime authors like Agatha Christie and Raymond Chandler. Whether they were period pieces or set in the 1970s, the best of these movies found ways to revitalize old ideas so that they could shock their audiences. There were also some truly original mystery movies which charted a path forward for the entire genre, like Chinatown and Deep Red.

A couple weeks ago, we reported that Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) was in the running to play Lara Croft, the lead character of the long-running Tomb Raider series of video games, in a new live-action show coming to Amazon Prime Video. At the time, Turner was testing alongside actresses like Lucy Boynton. Now, Deadline reports that Turner is in negotiations to play Lara, so it looks like she won out!
I don't want to go full bore and say "Sophie Turner will play Lara Croft," since things could theoretically fall apart in negotiations, but this seems as close to a done deal as it's possible to get without the deal actually being done. Unless something unexpected happens, Turner will follow in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander to play the treasure-hunting Lara Croft in live-action.

This debut thriller from theatre director Sam Yates deals with hot, messy emotions in a cold, contained manner. Taking its cue from the spacious yet airless modernist house that encases the crumbling family at its centre – and from producer/star Daisy Ridley’s short, sharp haircut, perhaps clipped from Rosemary’s Baby – it’s a measured and muted affair, all slow build and steely colours.
Given that writer Ben (Shazad Latif) proves himself to be an unsupportive, self-absorbed dick from the opening scene and only gets worse from there, you might find yourself wishing for more heat: a Midsommar-style bonfire by the half-hour mark would do it. For while Latif brings a wrinkle of humour and a twinkle of eye to the part, he’s not afforded a great deal of nuance to play with. This, after all, is a guy who happily uses his cute daughter to cosy up...

While fans are still dealing with the travesty that was The Acolyte and are looking forward to Skeleton Crew, it was reported that a new Star Wars trilogy was in development with Simon Kinberg writing and producing. Neither Disney nor Lucasfilm have given an official statement but it is rumored to be a new story with new characters.
Lucasfilm gas announced many film projects in the past, including a trilogy by Rian Johnson. However, most of these projects have been in limbo. On top of that, giving Kinberg the responsibility to handle a trilogy even before testing the waters may be a controversial decision. However, Kinberg does not come without experience.

It’s time to travel to a galaxy far, far away once again, as a new Star Wars trilogy has been confirmed to be in the works. Lucasfilm has signed a deal with filmmaker Simon Kinberg to develop three new films based on the iconic franchise.
The Star Wars series already features three trilogies: the originals, released between 1977 and 1983, the prequels, released between 1999 and 2005; and the recent sequels, released by Disney between 2015 and 2019.
Simon Kinberg to Create New Star Wars Trilogy
The project is still in the early stages of Development, and reports suggest that it will feature a fresh storyline after The Skywalker Saga concluded with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. However, a source quoted by Deadline has revealed that the new films could also continue the tale of Luke Skywalker, becoming episodes 10 to 12 of the overall franchise.

Star Wars fandom is fuming right now after Lucasfilm has reportedly closed a deal with Simon Kinberg to develop another Star Wars trilogy. While the report suggested that Kinberg is onboarded for a continuation of The Skywalker Saga, insiders disputed the claim and shared that the new trilogy will begin a new saga. Either way, fans do not want the project to be associated with Kinberg.

Kinberg’s recent portfolio hasn’t been very colorful. He is often credited with singlehandedly ruining the X-Men franchise with his involvement in some of the later projects. Little do fans know that he was an executive producer on the latest film in the X-Men series (now Marvel), Deadpool & Wolverine.

Lucasfilm has struck a deal with Simon Kinberg to develop a new trilogy of Star Wars movies, with Kinberg set to write and produce the films alongside Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.
According to Deadline, these films could potentially continue the iconic Skywalker Saga as Episodes 10-12. This saga began with George Lucas’s original Star Wars in 1977—a groundbreaking movie that, along with Steven Spielberg’s Jaws, forever redefined the blockbuster film genre.
Sources indicate that rather than continuing the Skywalker Saga, Kinberg’s trilogy will introduce a new storyline, joining an expanding lineup of Star Wars projects in development by James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Taika Waititi, and Donald Glover. Lucasfilm and Disney have yet to release any official statements.

May the Force be with Simon Kinberg, who’s recently signed a deal with Lucasfilm to write and produce a new Star Wars trilogy. Kinberg’s writing credits include the screenplay for Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, 2015’s Fantastic Four, and multiple films in Fox’s X-Men franchise, including X-Men 3: The Last Stand, X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix. He’ll produce the new Star Wars trilogy for Lucasfilm alongside the studio’s chief, Kathleen Kennedy.
According to Deadline, Simon Kinberg’s Star Wars trilogy involves episodes 10-12 of The Skywalker Saga. However, insiders say Kinberg aims to launch a new saga that goes hand in hand with developing Star Wars projects from James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Taika Waititi, and Donald Glover. Lucasfilm remains tight-lipped on the matter, which doesn’t surprise me after I saw their security measures when I visited Industrial Light & Magic last month.

There's been a sudden resurgence of interest in Tomb Raider, the long-running video game series about international treasure hunter Lara Croft, who's kind of like a British Indianan Jones. Netflix recently premiered an animated series called Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. Meanwhile, Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge is working on a live-action Tomb Raider show, and it sounds like she could be closing in on her leading lady.
According to Deadline, Sophie Turner and Lucy Boynton are testing for the role. Turner is best known for playing Sansa Stark on HBO's fantasy megahit Game of Thrones. She's done a fair amount of TV and film afterwards, most recently playing real-life diamond thief Joan Hannington in the crime drama Joan. Boynton, meanwhile, is best known for her role in films like Murder on the Orient Express and Bohemian Rhapsody.

Johnny Depp and Penlope Cruz are to star in their fourth movie together, Day Drinker, from the producers of the John Wick franchise. The two actors have shared the big screen three times so far, in Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Kenneth Branaghs Murder on the Orient Express. While their movies didnt resonate strongly with critics - their highest-rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes is Murder on the Orient Express with a 60% score - they have made $1.1 billion at the global box office. Thanks to breakout roles in the Scream revival, Netflix's Wednesday and this year's Beetlejuice sequel, Jenna Ortega is fast becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, so it probably won't come as much of a surprise to learn that she's being courted by Marvel Studios.
According to scooper Mttsh, Ortega is now in talks for an undisclosed Marvel Cinematic Universe role.
It's always worth noting that Marvel meets with a lot of talent, but if Ortega has actually entered negotiations for an upcoming project, there's a good chance the trades will get hold of the story before too long.
Even if she is in talks, there's no guarantee that things will work out. Ortega has a busy schedule ahead, with a lead role in Taika Waititi's Klara and the Sun adaptation, and an untitled Trey Edward Shults film that will co-star The Weeknd and Barry Keoghan.
