A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story, a four-part drama series starring Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody, Murder on the Orient Express, The Politician) that tells the story of the last woman to be hanged in Britain from her point of view, premiered in the U.S. on streaming service BritBox this week and will hit U.K. streamer Itvx in March.

Ruth Ellis was the last woman to be hanged in the United Kingdom after the fatal shooting of her abusive lover. The year was 1955. Thirty years later, Mike Newell’s 1985 movie Dance With a Stranger, starring Miranda Richardson and Rupert Everett, told the story. Now, Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody, Murder on the Orient Express, The Politician) portrays Ellis in the new four-part drama series A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story, which premieres in the U.S. on streaming service BritBox on Monday and aims to tell Ellis’ story through her eyes.

Thanks to breakout roles in the Scream revival, Netflix's Wednesday and last year's Beetlejuice sequel, Jenna Ortega is fast becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, so it probably won't come as much of a surprise to learn that she's being courted by Marvel Studios.

We have previously heard that Ortega was being eyed for a superhero part, but Daniel Richtman is now reporting that the actress is being considered for a big Marvel Cinematic Universe role.

It's always worth noting that Marvel meets with a lot of talent, but if Ortega has actually entered negotiations for an upcoming project, there's a good chance the trades will get hold of the story before too long.

Fernanda Torres landed a Best Actress nomination this morning from the American Academy for her leading turn in Walter Salles’ latest I’m Still Here.

Torres is only the second Brazilian actress to receive an Oscar nomination. The first was her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, who was nominated in 1999 for Central Station, also directed by Salles.

I’m Still Here was co-written by Murilo Hauser and Heitor Lorega and is based on Marcelo Rubens Paiva’s memoir of the same name set during Brazil’s military dictatorship in the early 1970s. The central figure is Paiva’s mom Eunice, a mother of five who is forced to reinvent herself and her family after her husband Rubens, a politician and engineer who opposed the regime, became one of the government’s desaparecidos (the disappeared), and was tortured and killed.

Daisy Jazz Isobel Ridley was working in a pub when she was cast as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, having previously only appeared in a small number of short films and the 2015 horror-thriller Scrawl.

A couple weeks ago, we reported that Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) was in the running to play Lara Croft, the lead character of the long-running Tomb Raider series of video games, in a new live-action show coming to Amazon Prime Video. At the time, Turner was testing alongside actresses like Lucy Boynton. Now, Deadline reports that Turner is in negotiations to play Lara, so it looks like she won out!

I don't want to go full bore and say "Sophie Turner will play Lara Croft," since things could theoretically fall apart in negotiations, but this seems as close to a done deal as it's possible to get without the deal actually being done. Unless something unexpected happens, Turner will follow in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander to play the treasure-hunting Lara Croft in live-action.

This debut thriller from theatre director Sam Yates deals with hot, messy emotions in a cold, contained manner. Taking its cue from the spacious yet airless modernist house that encases the crumbling family at its centre – and from producer/star Daisy Ridley’s short, sharp haircut, perhaps clipped from Rosemary’s Baby – it’s a measured and muted affair, all slow build and steely colours.

Phil Dunster is reuniting with “Ted Lasso” co-creator Bill Lawrence at HBO.

Dunster has signed on to star alongside Steve Carell in the untitled HBO comedy series written by Lawrence and Matt Tarses that was originally picked up back in May.

The half-hour series has been given a 10 episode order. The official logline states that the single-camera show is “set on a college campus, centering on an author’s complicated relationship with his daughter.” Dunster’s exact character details are being kept under wraps.

Dunster is best known stateside for his role as Jamie Tartt in “Ted Lasso,” which aired for three seasons at Apple TV+. Dunster received an Emmy nomination for best supporting actor in a comedy for the series in 2023. His other notable roles include shows like “The Devil’s Hour,” “Strike Back,” and “Humans,” as well as films like “Murder on the Orient Express” and “The Good Liar.

While fans are still dealing with the travesty that was The Acolyte and are looking forward to Skeleton Crew, it was reported that a new Star Wars trilogy was in development with Simon Kinberg writing and producing. Neither Disney nor Lucasfilm have given an official statement but it is rumored to be a new story with new characters.

Lucasfilm gas announced many film projects in the past, including a trilogy by Rian Johnson. However, most of these projects have been in limbo. On top of that, giving Kinberg the responsibility to handle a trilogy even before testing the waters may be a controversial decision. However, Kinberg does not come without experience.

It’s time to travel to a galaxy far, far away once again, as a new Star Wars trilogy has been confirmed to be in the works. Lucasfilm has signed a deal with filmmaker Simon Kinberg to develop three new films based on the iconic franchise.

The Star Wars series already features three trilogies: the originals, released between 1977 and 1983, the prequels, released between 1999 and 2005; and the recent sequels, released by Disney between 2015 and 2019.

The project is still in the early stages of Development, and reports suggest that it will feature a fresh storyline after The Skywalker Saga concluded with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. However, a source quoted by Deadline has revealed that the new films could also continue the tale of Luke Skywalker, becoming episodes 10 to 12 of the overall franchise.

Star Wars fandom is fuming right now after Lucasfilm has reportedly closed a deal with Simon Kinberg to develop another Star Wars trilogy. While the report suggested that Kinberg is onboarded for a continuation of The Skywalker Saga, insiders disputed the claim and shared that the new trilogy will begin a new saga. While their movies didnt resonate strongly with critics - their highest-rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes is Murder on the Orient Express with a 60% score - they have made $1.1 billion at the global box office. The bulk of that gross comes from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Now, Lionsgate confirms Depp and Cruz are working together again on Day Drinker. From the producers of John Wick, Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, its marketed as an action thriller by director Marc Webb, who is known for his work on 500 Days of Summer, The Amazing Spider-Man, and its sequel.

According to scooper Mttsh, Ortega is now in talks for an undisclosed Marvel Cinematic Universe role.

It's always worth noting that Marvel meets with a lot of talent, but if Ortega has actually entered negotiations for an upcoming project, there's a good chance the trades will get hold of the story before too long.
