Last night I attended the first Los Angeles screening of the fantastic indie film, "Shooting Clerks." The movie is directed by Christopher Downie and is the story of the making of the 1994 cult classic, "Clerks". As a Kevin Smith fan, the story was familiar but what I really enjoyed was spotting the numerous View Askew references scattered throughout. The graffiti on the wall from "Clerks II" the "Amy Diner", nods to Ralph Garman, Cardinal Glick of "Dogma", the Leonardo Reapers hockey team, even the fonts of the titles throughout the movie...tremendous attention to detail! I actually thought (and please don't tell Kevin Smith) that "Shooting Clerks" did a better job recreating the joy of making an indie movie than "Clerks III" did. "Shooting Clerks" is touring the country right now and it's definitely worth seeking out!
