Roberta Flack, Grammy winner and legendary singer, has tragically passed.

The music icon is known for “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” and “Killing Me Softly With His Song.”

She was profoundly influential, working with fellow music legends. Her last album came out last decade.

Flack died at home and amongst family. She was 88 years old.

According to a statement by her representatives, Roberta Flack passed away on Monday, February 24, at the age of 88.

Born in Black Mountain, North Carolina in 1937, Flack’s keen interest in music manifested from an early age.

At 15, she enrolled in Howard University in Washington DC on a scholarship. Notably, this made her one of the university’s youngest students.

I really got a kick out of the Blaxploitation films of the 1970s when they were new, and just as much recently when I found many of them streaming at one place or another. Pam Grier was a tough, smart and sexy sensation in a bunch of action movies. Same for Tamara Dobson – notably in a couple of outings as Cleopatra Jones. Sad news has surfaced, as country singer/songwriter and renowned actor, Kris Kristofferson has died at the age of 88. The star’s representative has stated he died ‘peacefully’ at his Maui home, surrounded by family.

Kristofferson passed away on Saturday, September 28.

Kristofferson’s family released statement noting, “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news our husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28 at home.”

It goes on to say, “We’re all so blessed for our time with him. Thank you for loving him all these many years, and when you see a rainbow, know he’s smiling down at us all.”

The Library of Congress has announced this year’s selection of 25 “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” pieces of recorded music to archive into the National Recording Registry, led by albums from Green Day, The Notorious B.I.G., and Blondie.

In addition to Green Day’s seminal Dookie, The Notorious B.I.G.’s classic debut Ready to Die, and Blondie’s commercial breakthrough Parallel Lines, other albums preserved among “the defining sounds of history” include Abba’s Arrival and The Chicks’ Wide Open Spaces. Jefferson Airplane’s Surrealistic Pillow and The Cars’ self-titled debut also made the list.

Songs include Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine,” Doug E. Just hours after Disney‘s copyright on the earliest version of Mickey Mouse expired, creators announced their intent to cash in on the likeness of the cartoon icon as he appears in his breakthrough 1928 animated short, Steamboat Willie. At least two Mickey-themed horror movies are reportedly in the works, though if last year’s dreadful Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey is any indication, you’ll want to skip this next round of gimmicky carnage.

Despite the potential for an interesting horror game, there are doubts about whether this title will deliver a meaningful experience or simply be an engineered attempt to gain attention.
