I had a good time watching this. I love horror comedy, and the balance it had between the two was pretty great.
The set up really lead to some good comedy moments, because at the beginning they are faking the ghost encounters. So they don't realise its really when things first go down, and that really works. It was fun. The characters were pretty great, and I really enjoyed the overall story.

Such theme is extraordinary with mix of comedy and horror. I thought it will be another lame kind in the beginning but it turns better n better.
It is just a fun, silly, amazing film.
If you like your horror in comedic form, this fits the bill!
I had a good laugh! The movie doesn't take itself seriously and neither should you.

Horror with comedy is a great but delicate subject, if you miss the point you might end up making fun into a dull and boredom show. This one gave some respect to both the genres be it horror with good jump scares or comedy mixed in it. A good one time watch.
I had not even heard about the 2018 movie "Deadtectives" before stumbling upon it here late in 2019. It sounded like an interesting horror comedy given the synopsis, so of course I ended up sitting down to watch it.
First of all, I must say that the movie and the storyline had lots of potential. Ultimately, director and writer Tony West just didn't really capitalize fully on this and the movie ended up less than what it had the potential to be. And that was a shame.
That being said, I am not saying that "Deadtectives" is a bad movie, because it most definitely isn't. In fact, "Deadtectives" is actually enjoyable and entertaining for what it is. Just a shame that there was so much squandered potential here.
The storyline is about a fraud ghost hunter film crew that are sent to Mexico where they come face to face with a very real and very dangerous haunting.
The characters in the movie were nicely fleshed out, lots of quirks and details to them, which was a nice thing. And they had some pretty talented actors and actresses to perform the various characters and roles, which definitely added to the enjoyment of the movie.
As for the special effects, well they were good. And that certainly worked quite well in favor of the movie, no doubt about that. Now, this isn't a gorefest movie, so don't expect an orgy of guts and mayhem. But the special effects team made good use of the effects, and they served their purposes quite well, without slipping into being gory.
I found "Deadtectives" to be an enjoyable and entertaining movie, and it definitely lived up to what I had expected it to be. Just a terrible shame that they squandered so much potential, because this movie could have been so much more.
I am rating "Deadtectives" a very solid six out of ten stars. Is it a movie that you will watch more than once? Hardly so, because the storyline doesn't really have enough contents to it actually.
As for the ending of the movie, well... Personally I didn't like the ending, because it just became too much of a "Ghostbusters" rip off at that point. But aside from a lousy ending, then the movie is definitely good and watchable.

The story is a rehash of Ghostbusters using a reality tv show as its theme.
The film has a TV show feel to it which could work if A - There was a strong lead and two supporting actors to carry the humour B - There was some humour.
Instead we have a bland lead who has taken inspiration from Horrible Historys in the style but gets it all wrong alongside the rest of the cast.
The production is solid in that tv/stage production style but others nothing particularly cinematic.
Effects are practical and are not bad.
The concept althouhh nothing new isn't a bad one but its not very well done.
It comes across as amateur slapstick rather than clever comedy. Gags are poorly timed as well as any comedic value from the writing.
With a better lead trio with chemistry some decent humour and tighter editing it might have fared better.
As is, it just became annoying and a weak generic attempt at comedy horror.
Id give this a miss or have it on in the background while your doing something else

I was worried this movie would suck because it only had 500 ratings, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's low budget but the acting is great and a lot of it is genuinely funny. It's a little slow from like 10 min to 25min, but it gets pretty interesting after that. I recommend this movie to any comedy/horror fans.

Here's The 4K Lowedown on "Deadtectives" (NR - 2018 - DVD)
Genre: Horror/Comedy My Score: 5.2
Cast=3 Acting=4 Plot=5 Ending=7 Story=6 Scare=3 Jump=6 F/X=4 Funny=7 Chemistry=7
After a team of reality TV ghost hunters experience true paranormal activity, they must figure out a way to escape with their lives intact.
"Gotta warn you bro...I made a few modifications." Ok this was horribly made...the F/X, Acting, and the scares were awful. But it was pretty funny...played better as a comedy than a horror movie. Perhaps this one had a 'so bad it's good' quality. It doesn't score very well and it was stupid, but I found myself chuckling a bit and enjoying parts of this one. I can't recommend it, but come in for the laughs and not the scares and it might be ok.

This was a fun movie.
Story was alright, some funny scenes, fine acting.
I thought it was a cross between the Frighteners and Ghostbusters.
Definitely a movie I'd watch again.
The movies title and synopsis really engaged me, I was really curious if this movie will be good, but it turned to be a bit disappointing.
The whole idea was that this team of fake ghost hunters, staged every location where they were called, to appear haunted for their tv show, and eventually they ended up In a real haunted house.
As actors, they were all unknown for me, but this wasn't a inconvenient at all ... what I didn't liked was the bad acting, if acting is bad movie is ruined in my perspective.
Most of times you hear curses in spanish, just simply throwed here in there, but really don't help the movie at all. The entire movie had like 5 scenes that made me grin a bit, except that the movie was kinda boring.
The scene with Javi and the white light near the ending was the best of all. Was pretty boring as movie, but wasn't the worst ... was decent.

I got to see this movie during the Seattle International Film Festival. I had no idea what to expect since this movie didn't even have a trailer yet. My expectations were low but I was pleasantly surprised.
The whole haunted house plot has been done countless times before but the execution is so perfect that gives the movie a sense of originality. Also this movie is genuinely funny! My theater burst into laughter many times and there are lot of memorable lines in the script. The great pacing is one of the main factors that makes this movie quite entertaining from start to finish.
I don't know who Tony West is but this debut feature shows he has potential and I'll be interested to watch his next movie. I only knew Chris Geere out of the cast beforehand but everyone does an exceptional job in performing.
Plot: 5/10 Screenplay and dialogue: 8/10 Acting: 8/10 Cinematography: 7/10 Effects: 7/10 Pacing: 9/10 Overall: 7.3/10 - Highly Recommended!

If you enjoyed movies like Ghostbusters, Re-Animator, Frankenhooker, and Basket Case then I recommend watching this one. There were plenty of laughs along with a few scares. Once the team gets to their destination the pace kicks off and keeps on going.
As for why some folks didn't like this, all I can say is you can't please everyone. Sometimes you just need to take things at face value. So, as long as you're not expecting highbrow comedy this watch can be fun in it's utter ridiculousness. It pokes plenty of fun at itself - how can you negate that is out of my perveu.
Overall, make some ultra-buttery popcorn, sit back and have a few guilt-free giggles. (Loved the Ghostbusters homage at the end, too !)

There is some entertainment value here. It's enjoyable, it didn't dragg, there were some funny scenes, easy to watch and i am glad i saw Chris Geere again (Protagonist in a very good tv show named "You're the Worst"). Of course, it's not mindlowing neither a MUST WATCH even for this genre. It's a comedy/horror movie that didn't take itself too seriously, meaning, kinda funny but never scary nor intense. It's more comedy than horror and don't expect for anxiety-inducing scenes. So, lower your expectations, prepare for something "light" and fun, and you will probably enjoy it as well. I certainly did.

In some ways a really good movie feels like a great full meal. All of your needs are met and nothing is missing. But a really nice meal that is missing something is how "DeadTectives" felt.
"DeadTectives" was more like a good TV show. Somewhere there was some substance missing.
This made it a 3.5 star movie. They had a pretty good script. The actors did a fine job. It didn't have a huge budget. The director did a very good job. Camera work was very good along with back drops. A lot of the set equipment seemed to be stolen from "Ghostbusters".
Basic plot of: A group of people got a TV show. It's about pretending to be ghost hunters. Where some of the group 'Believe' and some don't. The show's ratings have been falling so the heads of the company decide to step in and take control. These changes send the group to a house/mansion that is believed to 'real' problems. (Think of "The Conjuring".) All in all it's a very nice movie but it's lacking; like a snack or ala carte, when you wanted/needed 'Table d'hote'.

I love horror comedies! Especially ones this smart and effective. Deadtectives perfectly balances jokes with scares. The characters were all extremely charming and relatable. I could have done with another female lead but that's just nitpicking. Fans of Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice NEED to watch this gem.
Works on every level. This is the best horror comedy since Tucker and Dale. It's been a long time since I've been this pleasantly surprised.

I would compare this too Housebound, not as good but up there.
I did NOT watch the trailer going in, and I suggest you doing the same.
It starts of a bit cheesy, but it is a continuous ride that really keeps your attention.
Movie is really refreshing. No big name actors, a funny script, decent acting, and decent camera work.
Hope they make a part 2.

Legit horror movie where you would laugh in every scene but still there is no compromise on the horror part... Story is completely legit and would scare you and make you laugh at the same time...
Completely enjoyed it..
Completely enjoyed it..
I'm so happy to have found this gem of a horror and comedy mixture. You don't find too many movies that blend so effortlessly like Deadtectives.
The other reviewer mentioned Tucker and Dale. I hated that movie. It was awful. I did enjoy, Dude Bro Party Massacre III and Satanic Panic. So, those are my two gold standard of a horror and comedy movie.
Sequel please.

I only watched it because I like Chris Geere and figured it would be another rendition of a tired genre. Surprisingly good! Good blend of comedy, suspense, and maybe some horror elements. I wish there was a second.
