As the build begins for Marvel’s Thunderbolts*, the question is whether the company is making the wrong move with the team.
After a rough 2023, the MCU took time off to regroup, pushed on by the Hollywood strikes. They are trying to bounce back with Deadpool & Wolverine and Captain America: Brave New World. Their big summer entry is Thunderbolts* (the asterisk is intentional), which looks fun.
The plotline has several supporting characters from previous Marvel movies pushed into a team: Bucky/The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), the Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker/US Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko).
The trailer hints at some wild action and comedy, unlike Guardians of the Galaxy or DC’s Suicide Squad. Yet that seems to be a missed opportunity for the movie version of the Thunderbolts to replicate the comics.

Some will argue that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is not the worst Pirates of the Caribbean movie, but it does rapidly introduce characters who disappear from the franchise after the one-off adventure's end. The initial Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy has defined parameters. After the conclusion of the trilogy's main storyline and the departure of Orlando Bloom's Will Turner and Keira Knightley's Elizabeth Swann, Disney was challenged with coming up with a fresh new story, preferably with sequel potential, with Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow and Geoffrey Rush's Hector Barbossa still on board.
Penélope Cruz as Angelica was wasted; she could have carried a new era of Pirates of the Caribbean alongside Captain Jack, but the disappointing reception of On Stranger Tides led to another soft reboot and most of the characters from the fourth installment being dropped. While the core team of the Fantastic Four has been in place since their 1961 debut, Marvel’s First Family have had to replace members occasionally throughout the decades. One forgotten member who briefly replaced the Thing was even stronger than Benjamin Jacob Grimm… before eventually moving over to the DC Universe.
The hero Maul took Thing’s place in Fantastic Four Vol. 2 #13, by James Robinson and Mike Wieringo. This was the beginning of the 'World War III' storyline, which saw Marvel and WildStorm combine their comic universes, creating new teams where their heroes worked together.
Known primarily as the strongman of Jim Lee’s WildCATs, Maul fills in for a missing Ben Grimm in the alternate reality depicted in 'World War III.' The storyline sees an alliance of Marvel’s Skrulls and WildStorm’s Daemonites waging war on Earth, with few heroes left behind to fight the good fight.

Sony's film adaptation of the popular children's picture book, Harold and the Purple Crayon, brings together an impressive cast of talented performances. Released in theaters on August 2, 2024, Harold and the Purple Crayon broke into Netflixs top 10 after an October 31 streaming release. The Oscar-nominated director Carlos Saldanha utilizes the actors expertly, ensuring that their background experiences fit perfectly with their Harold and the Purple Crayon characters.
Although there are some crucial differences, Harold and the Purple Crayon shares the same basic premise as the book. Nearly a decade-and-a-half after Heroes went off the air, the classic Aughts TV sensation is getting another major reboot in the form of the recently announced Heroes: Eclipsed. Debuting in 2006, the show was created by Tim Kring and follows ordinary people around the globe who discover that they suddenly have superpowers and must put them to good use to save the world. The first season was one of the pinnacles of 2000s TV, and it helped to shape the blossoming TV revolution that would explode in the early years of the 2010s.
Heroes' four seasons on the air were anything but smooth, and the show quickly took a nosedive after its first season captured audiences and earned it critical acclaim. Each subsequent season performed worse and worse with critics and in the ratings until Heroes was canceled after season 4 to the shock and surprise of its die-hard fanbase. 2015's Heroes Reborn...

Francesca Eastwood is more than just a media fixture. The name, however, has taken quite the tumble in the last few days, with her arrest on a felony domestic violence charge and the imminent fallout. While the details of the incident remain elusive for many, it is also naturally raising a few eyebrows.

Clint Eastwood, meanwhile, is still chugging on. Almost seventy years into his career, the 94-year-old’s Juror #2 will be out in November 2024, a film in which his daughter Francesca plays a role.

Phil Coulson enjoys anonymity for strategic advantage, avoiding superhero codenames in Black Widow: Venomous #1. Reboots often struggle to capture the original magic, with some failing to gain traction due to poor imitation and lack of originality. The success of TV franchises like Suits and White Collar on streaming services has led to a rise in reboots, but not all are successful. Lack of chemistry, failure to modernize, and poor writing are common pitfalls of reboots, as seen in examples like Joey and Charmed.
TV franchises often attempt to make a comeback years after the end of their original shows, but this can have disastrous effects, failing to bring back the initial popularity. A franchise revival can fall flat for many reasons and occurs most often when the initial source material is so popular that living up to its legacy is practically impossible. Instead of striking out with new stories, actors, and themes, the shows are a poor imitation of a franchise that gained success because of its originality.

Sam Wilson gains super soldier abilities by drinking Captain America's blood in the "Heroes Reborn" storyline, much like how a vampire creates new vampires. Despite the unhygienic method, Cap's plan works and Sam helps defeat the villains with his new powers. The controversial storyline saw some characters canceled and relaunched, with mixed responses from fans.
Vampires are currently running amok in the Marvel Universe thanks to the Blood Hunt crossover event, but one use of his super soldier serum basically made Captain America a vampire before all of that. In the Heroes Reborn continuity established in the 1990s, Sam Wilson gains the same abilities as Steve Rogers thanks to sharing the latters super soldier serum. However, the way he gets them is rather gross.
Released in 1997, Captain America (1996) #5 sees Cap taking on Red Skull and Master Man as they establish a new branch of Neo-Nazis and attempt to blow up Los Angeles.

"Heroes" started strong with captivating characters and a unique premise, but lost momentum in subsequent seasons due to fluctuating quality. Now after months of speculation and planning, Gunn was overjoyed to announce that ‘Superman’ had begun principal photography on February 29th which was, coincidentally, Superman’s birthday, in Svalbard, Norway’s Adventdalen Valley. The location was chosen for its resemblance to the Arctic and natural beauty.

Heroes: Eclipsed is the last chance to revive the Heroes franchise under Tim Kring. Previous seasons failed to recapture the magic of the show's first season. To succeed, Eclipsed must focus on character development and avoid past mistakes.
Heroes: Eclipsed could give series creator Tim Kring one last chance to bring the Heroes franchise to its original heights. When Heroes premiered, the purposefully grounded approach to the superhero genre became a hit for NBC. However, the second season of the show was an infamous mess, with a truncated storyline and clunky writing costing Heroes much of the goodwill it developed early on. The subsequent Heroes seasons attempted to recapture the magic of the first season but largely failed. Heroes ran for four seasons before being canceled.
It was eventually followed up with a miniseries titled Heroes Reborn, but the continuation failed to renew interest in the franchise. Now, Kring is...

Heroes is set to get a remake and deserves a return of key characters like Sylar, portrayed by Zachary Quinto, to continue their stories. Characters like Tommy Clark and Malina Bennet from Heroes Reborn have unresolved stories that should continue in the new series. Characters like Mohinder Suresh and Tracy Strauss should also be brought back to help develop the narrative in the upcoming Heroes: Eclipsed series.
Heroes is set to get a remake, but to do the original series justice, several characters need to return and finish their story. Heroes quickly gained widespread critical acclaim after the first season began airing in 2006 and the series was nominated for a variety of awards, including Primetime Emmys. However, after the incredible start to the series, later seasons lost momentum and viewership took a sharp dive (via The Guardian). Heroes: Eclipsed brings back original creator Tim Kring for a new story set several years later. Despite the oversaturation of superhero content, Heroes: Eclipsed could offer a fresh take on the genre by returning to its groundbreaking roots. To succeed, Heroes: Eclipsed must address past issues, rediscover its magic, and innovate to keep up with modern superhero storytelling.
Heroes' latest reboot attempt may come at the worst possible time, but in a strange way, that only makes Heroes: Eclipsed even more tantalizing. Heroes premiered with a bang in 2006, and for a brief time, Tim Kring's superhero universe was among the biggest things on TV. The Kringdom rapidly collapsed as the disappointing Heroes season 2 suffered one of the worst sophomore slumps in TV history. Seasons 3 and 4 nobly attempted to course-correct, but the damage had been done, and Heroes was canceled unceremoniously in 2010. Heroes creator Tim Kring is rebooting the sci-fi drama series into a new show titled Heroes: Eclipse

A new “Heroes” reboot series is in development from creator Tim Kring, Variety has confirmed.

Milo Ventimiglia is opening up about the Heroes reboot and the possibility of a new revival. The actor also revealed why he won’t be auditioning for the Batman role in The Brave and the Bold film that James Gunn is working on as part of the new DC Universe he is constructing alongside Peter Safran.
In a new interview, the This Is Us alum was pessimistic about the idea of bringing back Heroes, the 2006 Tim Kring-created superhero series that aired on NBC for four seasons.
“I feel like I’ve been trained to say ‘never say never.’ But I think when they tried to bring back Heroes and reboot Heroes, it was a bit of a soft landing,” Ventimiglia said in an interview with ComicBook. “I don’t think that one’s gonna be revisited again.”
Ventimiglia played the role of Peter Petrelli, a hospice nurse who can mimic other people’s abilities.

"World War III" was a forgotten Marvel/DC crossover from 1997 that merged the Wildstorm and Heroes Reborn universes. The crossover allowed creators to do whatever they wanted with characters, resulting in a high body count and traitorous heroes. The story will never be republished due to real world events and the integration of Wildstorm characters into the main DC Universe.
While a Marvel/DC crossover is highly unlikely these days, there was a time when the two companies pitted their characters together on a fairly regular basis. In spite of all that, there is one story that has been forgotten, and really only became an official “Marvel/DC” crossover years after its original publication. This is the bizarre yet true story of “World War III,” a crossover from 1997 that’s since been lost to the ages.
The story of how “World War III” came to be starts the year before its publication.

Marvel and DC may be competitors, but for most of their history, their rivalry has been a fond one - after all, they share writers, artists, and fans. However, there have been many occasions where the two publishers wanted to use each other's heroes without permission - often in a derogatory way. In those cases, they invent obvious versions of each other's heroes and villains - new characters who often take on a life of their own.
In the case of this list, we're not talking about nebulous claims like Sentry being Marvel's Superman or Moon Knight being too close to Batman. Instead, this list will detail 15 characters who are obvious, deliberate rip-offs of DC characters - often with the intent of satirizing Marvel's distinguished competition.

In the Heroes Reborn comic series, Doctor Doom attempts to control a pocket dimension and is opposed by a freedom-fighting army known as the Iron Men, led by Otto Octavius. Despite being considered a second-rate Spider-Man villain, Doc Ock proves to be a formidable opponent for Iron Man and consistently defeats him when they battle. The suit worn by Doc Ock in Heroes Reborn is a combination of his classic aesthetic and Iron Man's Hulkbuster armor, making it one of Iron Man's darkest suits. However, it is used to take down a tyrant, making it a fitting legacy for Iron Man.
While Iron Man has had a habit of accidentally creating villains in the MCU, there’s one instance in the comics where he did the exact opposite by accidentally turning a shocking MCU villain into a freedom-fighting hero, one who carried Iron Man’s legacy with Tony’s darkest suit of armor.

Heroes started off strong with its unique take on superheroes in a real-world context, but eventually lost its way with convoluted plotlines. The first volume, Genesis, introduced a diverse cast of characters and set up the concept of ordinary people manifesting superpowers. Despite its flaws, Heroes offered a refreshing alternative to the McU-dominated era with its interesting story and unique approach to superheroes.
In 2006, NBC launched Heroes, an ambitious attempt to take comic book superheroes and adapt them into a primetime TV drama that the average person could relate to, and recaps of the Heroes story illuminate the show's many plot twists. TV show revivals are a risk only the most popular series are willing to take. Though, sometimes, no matter how popular the show once was, it never lived up to the original. So much plays into the success of a television series, and sometimes good timing is the most important aspect. Shows that premiered in the 80s are full of nostalgia, and a 2020s reboot doesn't do it justice.
The trends have changed, society's sense of humor has evolved, and what once worked can not be recreated again. However, that hasn't stopped studios from bringing back once beloved television series for another shot. There are times when reboots remain on air for years, but even those with several seasons are not as good as the predecessor series. For example, here are 10 TV show revivals that could not live up to the original shows.

Heroes ran for four seasons on NBC, before being canceled and was followed up by a revival, only to have it canceled again. Heroes was wholly unique for its time. A few years before superhero movies took over the film industry, the series was part of a much smaller superhero boom in the mid-2000s. Following in the footsteps of shows like Smallville, Heroes proved that superhero stories didn't require the budget of a theatrical movie to work.
The premise for Heroes was relatively unique, seeing ordinary individuals suddenly gaining super abilities like reading minds, rapid cellular regeneration, and space-time manipulation. Led by protagonist and hospice nurse Peter Petrelli, the new group of amateur superheroes had to band together to face off against the superpowered serial killer Sylar (Zachary Quinto) in season 1, and faced various other threats like the mysterious Shanti virus. Warning: Spoilers for Avengers Forever #12After over four years of buildup, Jason Aaron's Avengers run is finally paying off for patient fans. Marvel's premier book is currently the home of what could only be described as an epic tale that spans multiple timelines and universes. Avengers Forever #12 finally delivers on the original promise of the run: multiple teams of Avengers, an infinite number of Mephisto demons, and a truly exciting premise.
Writer Jason Aaron began crafting this story back in 2018 with the release of Avengers #1; the issue contained the Prehistoric Avengers along with hints of the future. 2021's Heroes Reborn, also written by Aaron, involved an entire universe manipulated by Mephisto in which the Avengers never came together as a team. This universe was later shown by Mephisto as a proof-of-concept to the Council of Red: an infinite number of Mephistos from every corner of the Multiverse.

Warning: Spoilers for Avengers #63
Marvel's Avengers are currently battling the demon Mephisto, but one of their number doesn't want to rise above their sworn enemy - he actually wants to be far worse. Considering that Mephisto is the equivalent of the Devil in the Marvel Universe, this is a harrowing sentiment. But Avengers #63 reveals that Ghost Rider is one of the few Avengers who walks the fine line between good and evil, and needs his dark side more than any other superhero in the Marvel Universe.
In current Marvel comics continuity, Mephisto has amassed an army of his variants from across the multiverse to destroy the Avengers in every time period, and in every universe. The Mephistos are actually after the God Quarry, the space between the multiverses and the expanse of creation; it is watched over by the Prime Avengers who sits in an Avengers Tower in the space between universes.

ABC has given out a pilot order to a legal drama currently titled “Judgement.”
Per the official logline, the show is “a high-stakes legal soap that redefines the genre by playing out over two timelines. Fifteen years from now, a woman being vetted for a Supreme Court seat recounts her experience at a prominent D.C. law firm in 2023, where the only thing more controversial than the cases was her messy love life, caught between two feuding brothers. Now, with a Supreme Court seat on the line, all of her darkest secrets are at risk of coming out, threatening her nomination, her reputation, and her marriage.”
Joey Falco is the writer and executive producer of the pilot. Melvin Mar and Jake Kasdan will executive produce via The Detective Agency. Jordan Cerf of Mosaic will also executive produce. 20th Television, where The Detective Agency is under an overall deal, will produce.

Over the past few years, Marvel Comics has shown repeated interest in putting new spins on its past events, but one of the most famous has yet to receive this treatment - 2005's House of M crossover, in which Scarlet Witch rewrites Marvel's reality to put mutants on top. When this inevitable secret does roll around, there's a major plot thread from the original that still needs to be explained.
Marvel Comics has spent a lot of time over the past decade revamping older events into new sequels or spin-off stories, including Secret Wars (2015), Civil War II (2016), and Secret Empire (2017). More recent returns to past events include World War She-Hulk (2021), Inferno (2021), Trial of Magneto (2021), Heroes Reborn (2021), Edge of Spider-Verse (2022), and the ongoing X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic arc, which has seen Charles Xavier transported to the world of Age of Apocalypse.
