“Gladiator II” (Paramount) is expected to gross over $60 million when it open this week in the U.S./Canada. If so, that will be a strong start for Ridley Scott’s 29th feature in his 45-year career.

With a budget reported to be somewhere around $250 million-$300 million, it will need all of that and more. While this may be his fourth film to cost over over $200 million (adjusting to current dollar value), “Gladiator II” appears to be the highest spend of Scott’s career.

It’s also the record expense for a director over 80. Paramount’s decision to entrust Scott clearly speaks to his past performances, particularly internationally.

We surveyed all 28 previous Scott features, calculating their grosses and budgets at 2024 values. And while a $60 million “Gladiator II” opening would be a record on paper, that only works if you don’t adjust his track record to current dollars and ticket prices.

“Dune: Prophecy” is prepping to expand the franchise by 10,000 whole years.

The new series, set in the distant past, serves as a prequel to the mainline films starring Timothy Chalamet. It follows the true rise of the Bene Gesserit and House Corrino leading the Imperium only years removed from the Butlerian Jihad against the “thinking machines.” With a new “Dune” series comes a slew of new characters to remember.

Hammer will return to acting for the first time since being accused of sexual assault in 2021. Wolfgang Petersen's 1985 sci-fi film "Enemy Mine" was beset with production problems and bogged down by massive marketing costs. "Enemy Mine" was then released into the very busy 1985 holiday season, competing with "Out of Africa," "The Color Purple," "Legend," "Clue," and "The Jewel of the Nile." Audiences, it seems, weren't in the mood for a modest sci-fi yarn, and stayed away in droves. "Enemy Mine" also opened alongside Terry Gilliam's dystopian nightmare "Brazil" and Richard Attenborough "A Chorus Line," but those films similarly tanked.

Additionally, the reviews for "Enemy Mine" were only middling at best.

Ahead of the premiere of one of the year’s most anticipated films,Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, CarMax , and Warner Bros. Pictures are collaborating on a new campaign featuring the characters and imagery from the film. Country music star Toby Keith died Monday following a three-year battle with stomach cancer. He was 62.

His death was announced early Tuesday morning across his social media channels. “Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on Feb. 5 surrounded by his family,” the statement reads. “He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time.”

Stephen Bear has shared his first update since getting an early release from prison, serving just 11 months of a 21-month sentence.

Bear served time for his conviction for voyeurism, disclosing private, sexual photographs and films with intent to cause distress, and harassment without violence.

The former Challenge competitor surfaced in a new video featuring a shot of him jogging outdoors into the video frame.

Bear stops and begins throwing punches in the air before he winks and flexes for the camera.

Music plays over the scene with a sound bite from part of Tom Hardy’s film Legend, which tells the story of twin gangsters Ronald and Reginald Kray wreaking havoc on London in the 1960s.

“It’s not how hard you can hit, it’s how hard you can get hit and keep moving forword…,” Bear’s video caption said, a nod to Sylvester Stallone’s line from the movie Rocky.

At this year’s Emmy Awards, the 76-year-old musician completed the rare distinction by winning Best Variety Special for his 2022 Disney+ concert film, Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium.

Exclusive: The Stranger Things stage show, an unbelievably brilliant new blueprint for theatricality that premieres in London’s West End tonight, will be the first installment in a trilogy exploring the dark underbelly of Hawkins, Indiana.

Breaking Baz can reveal that parts two and three are set to follow the inaugural play, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, in two- or three-year intervals, according to insiders associated with the production. The stage sequels will launch in London first.

Meanwhile, there are already plans for Stranger Things: The First Shadow to transfer to Broadway.

Video game fans got a huge surprise when Nintendo announced Nov. 7 that it is developing a live-action film based on The Legend of Zelda alongside Sony Pictures. Netflix is kicking off “Stranger Things Day” this morning with a first look at “Stranger Things: The First Shadow,” a live stage play that’s headed to London later this month.

“Stranger Things: The First Shadow” is said to be a “new story live on stage,” and it’s set in Hawkins, 1959. “The First Shadow” takes place “before the world turned upside down.”

The World Premiere takes the stage December 14 at the Phoenix Theatre on London’s West End, with previews beginning November 17. Go behind the scenes in the video below!

Competition on this season of “The Voice” is heating up as the NBC show enters into its battle round.

In TheWrap’s exclusive clip of Monday’s episode, Team Legend’s Kaylee Shimizu and Elizabeth Evans are paired up in a battle, and the duo wows the coaches as they perform an emotional rendition of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Traitor.”

The contestants score a standing ovation from their own coach, John Legend, as well as new coach Reba McEntire, who shared with the women she was “in awe” during their performance.

“Elizabeth and Kaylee, that was fantastic — unbelievable vocal range and power,” McEntire told the pair. “Elizabeth, when you opened your mouth and hit that big note, I was just in awe. Wow, and Kaylee, your range is just incredible — y’all just really did complement each other — love the harmonies.”

Tommy Lee Jones has yet to anchor a series in Taylor Sheridan’s vast TV universe — but at least he’s starring in an upcoming film from the producer, the crime drama “Finestkind.” You can watch the brand-new trailer for the Paramount+ film above.

In “Finestkind,” Jones plays the father of two sons who were raised in very different worlds (Ben Foster and Toby Wallace), who reunite over a fateful summer, first putting their father’s fishing boat in jeopardy and then embarking into even more dangerous waters.

According to the official synopsis, the movie is “set against the backdrop of commercial fishing, the story takes on primal stakes when desperate circumstances force the brothers to strike a deal with a violent Boston crime gang.”
