“Gladiator II” (Paramount) is expected to gross over $60 million when it open this week in the U.S./Canada. If so, that will be a strong start for Ridley Scott’s 29th feature in his 45-year career.
With a budget reported to be somewhere around $250 million-$300 million, it will need all of that and more. While this may be his fourth film to cost over over $200 million (adjusting to current dollar value), “Gladiator II” appears to be the highest spend of Scott’s career.
It’s also the record expense for a director over 80. Paramount’s decision to entrust Scott clearly speaks to his past performances, particularly internationally.
We surveyed all 28 previous Scott features, calculating their grosses and budgets at 2024 values. And while a $60 million “Gladiator II” opening would be a record on paper, that only works if you don’t adjust his track record to current dollars and ticket prices.

There have been several actors and musicians who have been called “one-hit wonders”. Due to a plethora of factors, their careers often reach a peak and fall back again. The lead actress in Zack Snyder’s flop movie had a similar story.

Emily Browning, who was once known for being an iconic actress in Hollywood, is now actively seeking to avoid it. The only reason she stated in an interview was related to the allegedly unchecked sexism.
Emily Browning Has Something to Say
It’s not uncommon for Hollywood actresses to speak out against the alleged sexism in the industry. However, no actress has said it like Emily Browning did in her interview.

Classic rock groups were often more interconnected than they seemed on the surface. For example, The Eagles indirectly caused Poco’s “Crazy Love” to become a hit single. Here is a look at why Poco was able to take over the pop charts late into their career.
A member of Poco joined The Eagles before ‘Crazy Love’
Firstly, some background. Poco’s first ten albums were not exactly winners on the pop charts. Things changed with their eleventh album, Legend. The record included “Crazy Love” and “Heart of the Night.” If you are familiar with Poco, it’s almost certain you know those two songs.
During a 2014 interview with Goldmine, Poco’s Rusty Young was asked if Poco decided to reinvent themselves as a radio-friendly band. “No, I’ve just always written songs,” he replied. “What happened, in 1978 — actually the end of ’77 — Timothy [B. Schmit] left the band to join The Eagles,...

If you think Hollywood is all about fast cars and flashy parties, think again! The real magic happens behind the scenes, where dedication meets creativity. Just ask Tom Cruise, the man who turned a simple script into an aviation classic.

After a rocky experience working with Ridley Scott on Legend, which crashed and burned at the box office, Cruise was understandably alarmed about taking on new projects without the right groundwork. With producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer presenting him with the Top Gun script, the actor recognized its potential but felt it needed improvement.

Armie Hammer’s outlaw days in Hollywood are coming to an end, thanks to indie Western film “Frontier Crucible.”
Hammer will return to acting for the first time since being accused of sexual assault in 2021. After the allegations, which also suggested Hammer had cannibalistic tendencies, the “Call Me by Your Name” star was dropped from roles in Amazon’s “Shotgun Wedding,” Paramount’s “The Offer,” Starz’s “Gaslit,” and Broadway’s “The Minutes.” The accusations were investigated by the LAPD; no charges were filed.
Now, after Hammer has said he was “not welcome” in Hollywood anymore, the “Lone Ranger” actor is playing one of three outlaw criminals for “Frontier Crucible.”
The feature is produced by “Bone Tomahawk” and “Dragged Across Concrete” producer Dallas Sonnier, and is being billed as “Reservoir Dogs” meets “Bone Tomahawk.” The film is set in the Arizona Territory of the 1870s, and follows a former soldier...

By the time 1983 was over, Tom Cruise was ready to conquer the world. Thanks to his roles in "The Outsiders" and "All the Right Moves," the man who would one day swing around the tallest building in the world in "Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol" (giving his then flailing career new life) had established himself as one of the most promising actors of his generation. That same year, by dancing in nothing but a pink button-up shirt and his tighty-whities in "Risky Business," he also provided the world with one of the most iconic visuals in teen coming-of-age dramedy history. Yet, it would take another three years for both Tom Cruise the blockbuster star with a mega-watt grin and the serious artist to fully emerge with "Top Gun" and "The Color of Money." Why the delay?

After making his entry into the film industry and gaining significant recognition with films like Risky Business, Tom Cruise had his major breakout in the 1986 action drama Top Gun, portraying Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchel. He later reprised the role in the 2022 sequel, which has since become the highest-grossing film of his career.
However, the foundation for a successful franchise, which has a third installment on the way, might never have been laid without Ridley Scott’s 1985 film Legend, which inspired the action star to explore adventurous stories such as Top Gun.
How Ridley Scott’s Legend Shaped Tom Cruise’s Path to Top Gun?

Wolfgang Petersen's 1985 sci-fi film "Enemy Mine" was beset with production problems and bogged down by massive marketing costs. The film's original director, Richard Loncraine (1995's "Richard III"), reportedly butted heads with producer Stephen Friedman and walked off the set after only a week of shooting. Petersen stepped in after that, moving the production to Germany and starting over. A film that was supposed to boast a modest budget of only $17 million ended up costing over $29 million.
"Enemy Mine" was then released into the very busy 1985 holiday season, competing with "Out of Africa," "The Color Purple," "Legend," "Clue," and "The Jewel of the Nile." Audiences, it seems, weren't in the mood for a modest sci-fi yarn, and stayed away in droves. "Enemy Mine" also opened alongside Terry Gilliam's dystopian nightmare "Brazil" and Richard Attenborough "A Chorus Line," but those films similarly tanked.
Additionally, the reviews for "Enemy Mine" were only middling at best.

Ahead of the premiere of one of the year’s most anticipated films,Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, CarMax , and Warner Bros. Megalopolis Trailer: Francis Ford Coppola Aims To Pass The Test Of Time With Adam Driver Sci-Fi Epic
Update: In a uniquely strange turn of events, Lionsgate have now pulled the latest trailer for Megalopolis from all platforms due to controversy surrounding fabricated critic quotes featured within it. In a statement given to Variety, a spokesperson said the following: “Lionsgate is immediately recalling our trailer for Megalopolis. We offer our sincere apologies to the critics involved and to Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope for this inexcusable error in our vetting process. We screwed up. We are sorry.”

Almost 50 years after “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” debuted, Tim Curry is gearing up for another spooky role.
The veteran actor will return to the big screen as a character in the horror film “Stream,” which is opening Wednesday in select theaters. It will be his first feature film role since the 2010 comedy “Burke & Hare,” even though he has worked on many animated projects as a voice actor since then. He also appeared in the 2016 television film remake of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” on Fox.
Beyond his “Rocky Horror” role of Dr. Frank-n-Furter, Curry earned his genre bonafides with his performance as Pennywise in the TV miniseries “It,” as well as roles in films like “Legend,” “Clue” and “Scary Movie 2.”
“Stream” writer, director and producer Michael Leavy said it was a dream come true to have the icon in his film.

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! Look who turned 90 years young! If you are looking for the lowdown on this cantankerous and cranky birthday duck, you’ve come to the right place. Donald Duck burst onto the scene June 9, 1934, and his popularity has continued to climb ever since. What Kind of Duck is Donald?

Roger Corman, the influential director, producer, and studio executive of independent film, has died at the age of 98.
Known as “The Pope of Pop Cinema,” Corman helmed hundreds of low-budget independent films over the course of his seven-decade career. Some of his notable credits included The Little Shop of Horror, Rock ‘n’ Roll High School, Death Race 2000, A Bucket of Blood, and X: The Man with the X-ray Eyes.
As a producer, Corman also gave opportunities to many young directors and actors who would become future Hollywood legends in their own right. Directors like Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, James Cameron, Ron Howard, and Jonathan Demme all worked with Corman early on in their careers. Later, these directors put Corman in their own films: he made cameos in Scorsese’s The Godfather Part II, Demme’s The Silence of the Lambs and Philadelphia, and Howard’s Apollo 13.

In previous articles, we have taken a look at stars of the past we would like to see make a comeback – and there are a lot of them! It was too hard to narrow it down to just a few, so now we’ve put together another list of 80s stars we want back, including a couple of Freddy victims, some 1980s beauties we miss, and a lady we’ve only seen twice on our screens.

Christopher Nolan and his brother Jonathan Nolan grew up loving films and aspired to be filmmakers. While they have now become esteemed directors and creators today, the road was not smooth sailing and they had to find their footing in the industry during their early days. Nolan’s breakthrough film Memento was based on Jonathan’s short story Memento Mori.

The duo went on to collaborate as writers in other Nolan films including The Prestige, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, and Interstellar. In George Lucas' 1977 sci-fi flick "Star Wars," there is a scene wherein a cadre of Nazi-like bad guys, in the employ of the evil Empire, gather around a boardroom table and mention that the mysterious off-screen Emperor has dissolved the senate and taken absolute control. The military generals are outraged, wondering how the Empire might survive without a bureaucracy in place. In Irvin Kirshner's 1980 sequel "The Empire Strikes Back," it's established that Darth Vader (David Prowse), a mysterious masked warlock, was actually the Emperor's right-hand man, indicating that the Emperor retains control of the Empire through the sheer force of his villainy.
In "The Empire Strikes Back," the Emperor appeared in holographic form to have a powwow with Darth Vader and plan his next move. In the original cut of the movie, the Emperor was played on screen by actress Marjorie Eaton, outfitted with eerie, alien eyeballs. Eaton was a long-working character performer in Hollywood,...

In a recent episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, the comedian made a surprising offer to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. John Oliver proposed a deal worth $1 million per year if Thomas would choose to resign from his position on the Supreme Court immediately. And he was not joking while offering this.

The talk show host also criticized Thomas’ controversial vote in 2022, where he played a key role in overturning Roe v. Wade, a significant decision that had previously protected the right to abortion. Oliver expressed his dissatisfaction with Thomas’ stance on this matter and used his platform to voice criticism.

In the years since his premature death, reggae legend Bob Marley has been culturally defanged into a benevolent good-times symbol safe for dorm rooms and yuppie living rooms everywhere. Marley’s string of popular songs, many of which were compiled in his posthumous greatest hits collection “Legend,” turned him into one of the best-selling artists in the world, but this mass-market commercial appeal also necessitated a dilution of his radicalism and spiritual essence. Though many can probably identify “Jamming” or “Is This Love?” as a Marley tune if it was played for them, he’s still probably associated more with generic weed culture than any type of revolution, which is an obvious shame given the political roots of reggae and Jamaica’s storied history.
It makes some kind of sense that “Bob Marley: One Love” is being released at this time of heightened political consciousness. Granted, most contemporary music biopics...

Stephen Bear has shared his first update since getting an early release from prison, serving just 11 months of a 21-month sentence.
Bear served time for his conviction for voyeurism, disclosing private, sexual photographs and films with intent to cause distress, and harassment without violence.
The former Challenge competitor surfaced in a new video featuring a shot of him jogging outdoors into the video frame.
Bear stops and begins throwing punches in the air before he winks and flexes for the camera.
Music plays over the scene with a sound bite from part of Tom Hardy’s film Legend, which tells the story of twin gangsters Ronald and Reginald Kray wreaking havoc on London in the 1960s.
“It’s not how hard you can hit, it’s how hard you can get hit and keep moving forword…,” Bear’s video caption said, a nod to Sylvester Stallone’s line from the movie Rocky.

I’m not much for introductions, but I have a confession to make; a difficult one, and maybe disastrous to my career prospects in the cat-eat-cat land of the media commentariat. But to anyone who knows me, the secret is already out: I am not very cool. I don’t live in a major urban center or have regular access to any hot arthouse theaters; I don’t travel the festival circuit and bump shoulders with the film critics you know and love. I don’t keep track of what’s new on Netflix or Prime or wherever. I don’t even get out much, really, except to walk my dog. Did Amitabh Bachchan Ask Bollywood To Stay Away From Don’s Director After He Denied To Remove ‘Khaike Paan Banaras Wala’ Because Big B Found It Uncool? [Reports] ( Photo Credit – YouTube; Facebook )
What is the first thing that comes to mind when we say Amitabh Bachchan? Legend, Angry Young Man, Don (the iconic film)? He’s all of that and more, but the journey hasn’t been easy for him. He has witnessed a fair share of controversies, and one such alleged incident is floating on the internet, which states how he was against Don’s iconic song Khaike Paan Banaras Wala.
Yes, the song, which went on to become one of the most iconic tracks of the late 70s & early 80s, was supposedly ‘uncool’ for Mr. Bachchan, as per the rumors on Reddit. It also states that he wanted director Chandra Barot to remove that song from the final cut.

Exclusive: The Stranger Things stage show, an unbelievably brilliant new blueprint for theatricality that premieres in London’s West End tonight, will be the first installment in a trilogy exploring the dark underbelly of Hawkins, Indiana.
Breaking Baz can reveal that parts two and three are set to follow the inaugural play, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, in two- or three-year intervals, according to insiders associated with the production. The stage sequels will launch in London first.
Meanwhile, there are already plans for Stranger Things: The First Shadow to transfer to Broadway.
None of that’s official yet, of course. Producers and backers will study reviews out on Friday and across the weekend and the box office receipts before green-lighting any further productions.

Hollywood is overflowing with stories about films that took years of blood, sweat and tears to bring to the screen. Brian Helgeland’s Finestkind represents one of the longest kinds.
The Oscar-winning screenwriter of Mystic River and veteran director of such films as Legend, 42, A Knight’s Tale and Payback finished the script when he was 28. He’s now 62. “The joke is that I wrote it before Toby Wallace and Jenna Ortega were born and Ben Foster was 10 years old. It’s very strange, but everything happens for a reason. I just had to wait for this whole cast to grow up so I could cast them,” he explained at the film’s West Hollywood premiere on Tuesday referring to his actors who star opposite Tommy Lee Jones, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Aaron Stanford, Scotty Tovar, Tim Daly, Lolita Davidovich and Clayne Crawford.

Well, they finally did it. After a supposed decade in the works and 35 years of fans imagining what a movie would look like, Nintendo has officially willed a feature film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda into existence. Yet what should have been cause for celebration was met with a thud.

Video game fans got a huge surprise when Nintendo announced Nov. 7 that it is developing a live-action film based on The Legend of Zelda alongside Sony Pictures. The film is being directed by Wes Ball, best known for helming three “Maze Runner” movies. He’s also set to relaunch the “Planet of the Apes” franchise after a seven-year hiatus with next year’s “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.”
While Ball’s hiring might’ve come as a surprise to some, Zelda fans quickly discovered one of the director’s tweets from 13 years ago in which he posted about how his dream of one day directing a Zelda movie would most likely never happen.
