Shinichiro Watanabe is a name synonymous with his epic, genre-redefining works. He started the trends that continue to influence anime even today. From Cowboy Bebop to Samurai Champloo and Space Dandy, his works have always been stylish and classy, with the appropriate amount of depth and heavy themes.

This balanced manner of storytelling is what gives the audience the full Watanabe experience. From the beginning to the end, the magic of the music, the laid-back characters, and the intricate plot all seem realistic as they slowly intertwine and give rise to a unique narrative.
This has been Watanabe’s way; he does not rush and hurry to skip out the parts that could flesh out the characters and deepen the essence of the narrative. The quirky characters and the effortless cool factor are important. Unfortunately, Lazarus seems to be taking a more serious approach.

Mappa is one of the top-tier animation giants in the anime industry that gave us iconic series. From Chainsaw Man to Kids on the Slope, they worked on a diverse range of anime. It was only after Jujutsu Kaisen that their finesse was spotlighted, but the anime might have to wait for its third season.

Mainly because the studio is all set to release Shinichiro Watanabe’s upcoming series. The Cowboy Bebop animator is back with yet another banger and it looks surprising in most senses. As for third season’s prolonged release, I see no issues with the delay and here’s why.

Music is an essential part of Shinichiro Watanabe’s directorial vision. From Macross Plus to Carole & Tuesday, Watanabe has incorporated a wide variety of genres in his works. However, his collaboration with Yoko Kanno for Cowboy Bebop remains iconic to this day. Jazz perfectly complemented the retro and upbeat yet melancholic mood of the series.

Given how perfectly synchronized Watanabe’s vision and Kanno’s beats were, one would expect them to collaborate on subsequent projects without thinking twice. However, that wasn’t the case at all! The Cowboy Bebop director deliberately chose different composers in his next anime and even shared the reason why he didn’t get Kanno onboard. While the reason makes sense, the music featured in Samurai Champloo is a great topic of discussion on its own.

Anime director Shinichir Watanabe is a legend who has consistently bridged the gap between his niche medium and the mainstream. Thanks to seminal hits like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Space Dandy, and more, Watanabe has established a prestigious reputation even simply when his name is attached. But it's more than a sterling mark of quality connecting these series, with a recent Anime News Network interview highlighting how he believes all of his series, including Lazarus, are connected.
Lazarus, slated for a 2025 release, is Watanabe's latest project and boasts many similar qualities in common with Cowboy Bebop, down to its choreographed action. With the amazing help of star directors like Chad Stahelski, Kamasi Washington, Floating Points, and Bonobo creating the music and animation by Mappa, the series is primed to go down among the greats like all the rest. But with Watanabe's take on his collective works, it might be worth...

Shinichiro Watanabe’s hold on his craft is impeccable; he could easily be an anime character himself, someone who is sought out by others to achieve mastery of something. He always manages to carry his defining factors into his subsequent works while experimenting with new things and genres. Some of his notable works include Cowboy Bebop, Space Dandy, Terror in Resonance Samurai Champloo, and Kids on the Slope.

While most of his works are highly regarded by fans, Terror in Resonance has some evident flaws. Even with its shortcomings, the anime excels through Watanabe’s direction and the memorable musical score by Yoko Kanno. In an interview, Watanabe spoke at length about his inspiration behind these two striking aspects of Terror in Resonance.

After a mesmerizing glimpse through the torii gate of the eponymous Garden in Azuki and Dentsu's Enter the Garden: The Waiting Man, viewers grew more curious about how this collaborative anime project would grow. With incredible names attached like Gor Taniguchi, acclaimed director of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, One Piece Film: Red, and the Planetes adaptation that recently joined Crunchyroll, millions of viewers were wondering when they'd get their next fix. Episode #2, titled Fractured Reflections, will expand Enter the Garden's vision as shown by a new press release, including Azuki's newly-released trailer.
With Taniguchi as the creative producer helming the project, Yukio Takatsu is tapped to direct Fractured Reflections after Junichi Yamamoto's turn with The Waiting Man. Shinichiro Watanabe, the genius behind Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and Space Dandy, is set to direct yet another exciting science-fiction adventure called Lazarus. It mixes modern animation with a hint of nostalgic 90s anime art style, so much so that you wouldn’t believe it’s animated by Mappa. For now, the trailer is all we have and it’s already looking promising with thrilling action scenes, some of them designed by Chad Stahelski, the creator of the John Wick franchise.

So far, the voice cast of Lazarus has been revealed and we get a taste of the animation. Viewers on X commented that the animation doesn’t look anything like the other Mappa anime but that might be the charm of it. It also reminds some people of Watanabe’s previous work with Mappa, Terror in Resonance, which was a smash hit in concept and all.

The 10th anniversary project of the 2014 TV anime Terror in Resonance has launched. The project's official website has opened with a newly-drawn memorial visual featuring the two protagonists, Nine and Twelve. The psychological thriller TV anime series directed by Shinichiro Watanabe ( Cowboy Bebop ) aired on Fuji TV's "Noitamina" midnight programming block for 11 episodes from July to September 2014. The suspenseful story of two boys, in which a mystery leads to more mysteries, attracted a lot of attention at the time of its broadcast. Director Watanabe says, "I have never forgotten them, ever since the summer ten years ago. Of course, they still live inside me, lamenting that it's hot again this year, and so on." Kaito Ishikawa , the voice of Nine, also comments, "I found myself shedding tears for the umpteenth time, as I was immersed in the deeply thought-provoking theme, the meticulous visual expression, the realistic sound and the...

Unique offerings like Dorohedoro and Chainsaw Man showcase Mappa's creativity, delivering dark and wild storylines with exceptional animation.

Studio Mappa, which has brought us such hits as Terror in Resonance, Yuri!!! on Ice, In This Corner of the World, Kakegurui, Banana Fish, Zombie Land Saga, Dorohedoro, The God of High School, Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan: The Final Season, Vinland Saga Season 2, Chainsaw Man, and Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku, has announced a completely new, original anime series titled Zenshu, which is going to be released at an undisclosed date in the future.

Namely, she has to create a rom-com anime herself, but the problem is that she herself has never been in love before, which makes her job all the more difficult. Deep anime that keep fans thinking long after their end are now more popular than ever. Newcomers may find this surprising, as anime can look like a lighthearted form of entertainment on a surface level. Dig a little deeper, however, and one will find plenty of shows with surreal, existentialist, and highly elaborate themes.
The topics anime can cover are seemingly endless. Modern psychology, gender, and the role of technology are just few of the many challenging subjects that become more accessible when filtered through an anime lens. That's not to say that any of these series are straightforward viewing experiences: they open viewers up to new ideas that keep them thinking long after the credits roll.

Anime adaptations can be successful in live-action if treated well, as seen with Alita: Battle Angel, but skepticism still surrounds the intersection of the two mediums. Several captivating anime, such as Your Lie In April and Terror In Resonance, have the potential for brilliant live-action adaptations due to their compelling storylines and themes. Mecha anime like Gurren Lagann and period fantasy dramas like Berserk offer unique worlds and characters that could thrive in the live-action medium, appealing to a wide range of audiences.
With a good deal of anime like One Piece and Cowboy Bebop getting live-action adaptations, it is hard not to speculate which ones deserve to be reimagined in the live-action medium next. The intersection between anime and live-action in recent years has sparked several debates on whether the Japanese audiovisual animated medium of storytelling can leap onto the silver screen in live-action form. While some western adaptations...

Adult Swim has just announced a new anime series from the creator of Cowboy Bebop, Shinichiro Watanabe, and the creator of John Wick, Chad Stahelski, promising some incredible animated action brought to the screen by studio Mappa.
As reported by Vulture, the series, titled Lazarus, is to be animated by the studio Mappa, known for their work on Attack on Titan and Chainsaw Man. The new Manhwa Terror Man from Ablaze puts an entertaining spin on the incredibly dark topic of terrorism. It certainly isn't the first work to do this, with anime like Mappa's Terror in Resonance also tackling this heavy topic. But what makes this manhwa by Dongwoo Han and Jinho Ko is how ridiculously they tackle the topic and the fun chaos that ensues.
Terror Man focuses on Jungwoo Min, a shy boy who has the power to see misfortune before it happens. One day, when shopping in a mall, he sees that the building is doomed to collapse and assumes the role of a terrorist in order to evacuate the building. Netflix is getting rid of a load of movies and TV shows from its service in January.
The next 31 days may bring plenty more titles for subscribers to stream, but there are several things that may suddenly disappear from your watchlist throughout the month.
This includes one of the service’s most-streamed titles.
To minimise surprise, we have put together a comprehensive list of everything being removed.
Find a full list of everything being added to Netflix in January 2023 here.
Nb: The Independent compiled this list with help from What’s on Netflix.

If you were an unsuspecting late-night Cartoon Network viewer in 2001, you likely witnessed the birth of "Adult Swim." And, if you were there, then it is safe to say that one of your formative introductions to anime involved some loud horns blaring at the stroke of midnight, followed by the funkiest bass strings you'd ever heard. That's when you knew, deep down, that something different was happening.
"Cowboy Bebop" is, without question, one of the most highly regarded anime series of all time. With its rugged, quirky characters, fantastic animation, and epic score, the show has served as a welcome introduction to anime for many fans. Directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, "Cowboy Bebop" follows a crew of intergalactic bounty hunters as they travel across the galaxy aboard their ship, the Bebop, collecting bounties for the Inter Solar System Police. These assignments frequently land the team in chaotic situations that see their...

I guess it was due time for Godzilla to get an anime version, and the 32nd film in the franchise provides just that, with the present movie being the first part of an upcoming trilogy, which, this time, implements a rather sci-fi approach.
In the last summer of the 20th century, giant monsters began appearing all over the world and wreaking havoc. A powerful creature called Godzilla appeared which destroyed humans and monsters alike. Two species of aliens, the Exif and the Bilusaludo, arrived with the former attempting to convert humanity to their religion and the latter seeking to emigrate to Earth with promises to defeat Godzilla with Mechagodzilla, should humanity accept them. However, the Bilusaludo were unable to activate Mechagodzilla, which forced the aliens and humanity to abandon Earth and emigrate to Tau Ceti e.
20 years later and 11.9 light years away, the immigrants are still looking for a suitable planet to inhabit,...

“Terror in Resonance” is quite an exception for the anime world, since it is one of the very few occasions (I have to admit I do not know any other similar case) where a series is not based on a manga, but simply on the imagination of four scriptwriters. Furthermore, and particularly due to Shinichiro Watanabe’s direction, whose previous work include “Cowboy Bepop” and “Samurai Champloo,” “Terror in Resonance” is a truly great title. Let us take things from the beginning though.
In an alternate version of the present, Tokyo has suffered a truly intense terrorist attack that has left its marks on all aspects of society. When a nuclear weapon is stolen from a secret military base, and soon after, an attack is launched by two strange individuals who have taken responsibility by posting a video on-line, the whole government mechanism has a fit. Soon,...
