The title of the movie refers to the 1970 song "Mennesker bliver spist i Polynesien" by Danish musician John Mogensen, which is a favorite song of the main character. The song title (and chorus) translates to "People get eaten in Polynesia".
"Mennesker bliver spist" won the 2015 Gabriel Award as Nordic quality movie of the year. The Gabriel award is given by LM, the confederation of parochial church councils of the national Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark.
