Steve Looker: I just started reading the unabridged history of books. It's long, but like I said, there's a lot of down time in pole vaulting.
Velma Dinkley: You're a book nerd just like me!
Daphne Blake: [flirtatiously] So, is your girlfriend a big reader too, or are you single?
Freddie Jones: [lying] You know, I'm a pole vaulter myself.
Velma Dinkley: [dryly] You are?
Freddie Jones: Sure. Just for fun.
Steve Looker: A fellow vaulter! If you vault anything like Shaggy runs, I'm in trouble. Hey, why don't come vault with me?
Freddie Jones: Oh, no, no, it's been years.
Velma Dinkley: [dryly] At least.
- ConnectionsEdited into Scooby-Doo! Laff-A-Lympics: Spooky Games (2012)
Running at only 22 minutes, this animated movie felt rather short and rushed. The story hardly started before it ended, so that was somewhat disappointing. That being said, then it should also be noted that writer Mark Banker managed to put together a story that was very fitting in the "Scooby-Doo" franchise, for better or worse.
Sure, you can say that if you have seen one "Scooby-Doo" movie then you have effectively seen them all. But there is just something nostalgic about these Hanna-Barbera animated movies that works still, even for me now as an adult.
The art and animation style is definitely in the spirit of the traditional "Scooby-Doo" stories, so you know what you are in for when you sit down to watch the 2012 "Scooby-Doo! Spooky Games" animated movie.
As always, they have a great voice cast ensemble for these animated movies, with recurring performances by Frank Welker, Matthew Lillard, Grey Griffin and Mindy Cohn. So there is a good sense of familiarity and continuity to these stories.
If you enjoy "Scooby-Doo" then this 2012 animated movie is certainly something for you.
I found it to be just another run-of-the-mill "Scooby-Doo" movie, however, and the short run time just didn't leave me overly entertained. As such, then "Scooby-Doo! Spooky Games" lands on a mediocre five out of ten stars.
