Due to creative and deadline disputes with publisher Deep Silver over Dead Island's release and development, Developer Techland broke away from their Dead Island partners to create and publish Dying Light themselves. The game was once planned to be released on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. But later it got cancelled due to hardware limitations.
