Paul Rutman, the series creator who was once a teacher at an Indian Boarding School, spent an estimated 12 months researching and talking to historical experts, namely Raaja Bhasin and Alastair Bruce (advisor on Downton Abbey). Bhasin is a graduate of Punjab University, the author of several books, pamphlets and articles that appear to be primarily on travel and tourism in India. He has written one historical and two travel/tourism guides to Simla. Bruce was educated at Milton Abbey School and Sandhurst. He served in the British Army from 1979 to 1983, worked for about a decade in business, and still serves as a decorated Reserve Officer and a prolific writer and lecturer. Both men are popular consultants on historical dramas.
