Many of the scenes were shot in the Natural History Building on the University of Illinois campus. The building was available as it had recently been deemed structurally unsound (and would later undergo an eighty-three million dollar renovation). The metal pillars in the hallways were actual support beams. The lab in which Kunal Nayyar and Anthony Edwards worked, was an evacuated honors class lab for Integrative Biology students.
While Sophie is racing to the scrapyard to search Serge's car, she runs a four way stop sign, as do the other two cars that are entering the intersection from her left and her right.
