Many of the original show's core cast members - including Tiffani Thiessen, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley - have gone on record denouncing this film and the memoir it is based on. Dustin Diamond himself has stated that many of the events in his memoir were greatly embellished by a ghostwriter, and that, in fact, most of the events depicted in the book are completely untrue. Nevertheless, Diamond serves as an executive producer for this film.
Alyssa Lynch would later reprise her role as Tiffani Thiessen in The Unauthorized Beverly Hills, 90210 Story (2015).
Adam Greydon Reid, who played Brandon Tartikoff in the movie, was a performer on another hit kids show, Nickelodeon's You Can't Do That on Television (1979).
The film takes place from 1988 to 1993.
The film makes very little reference to the circumstances surrounding the departure of Tiffani Thiessen and Elizabeth Berkley from the series, and no reference to Leanna Creel who replaced the two in the final season. Ed Alonzo, who appeared periodically throughout the series, is likewise not mentioned at all.
