October is upon us. The leaves are changing. Sweaters are becoming more abundant. Awards contenders are popping up in theaters nationwide. But those are far from the only films opening throughout the coming weeks. Below, you’ll find every planned theatrical release for the month of October, separated out into films with wide runs and limited ones. (Synopses are provided by festivals and distributors.)

A trailer has debuted for a feature film called The Lennon Report, about the fateful night where John Lennon was shot and killed in New York City in 1980. Similar to the assassination film Bobby, this focuses on the people (and the hospital) that instantly became involved in the event. The film profiles a number of people, including an ambitious young news producer, the staff at the emergency department at the Roosevelt Hospital, and the police investigating the shooting. Starring Gregory Barr as John Lennon, Karen Tsen Lee as Yoko Ono, as well as Evan Jonigkeit, David Zayas, Richard Kind, Stef Dawson, Devin Ratray, Adrienne C. Moore and Stephen Spinella. Take a look. Exclusive: Founder and CEO Matt McCombs and his sales team at Spotlight Pictures head into Cannes with a roster led by Aaron Eckhart starrer Courage.

The film gets its market premiere screening today [May 11] and is based on Jim Dent’s novel Courage Beyond The Game: The Freddie Steinmark Story.

Angelo Pizzo, a sports specialist whose screenwriting credits include Hoosiers and Rudy, directed from his adapted screenplay.

Eckhart stars as the coach of the University Of Texas American Football team whose star player is diagnosed with bone cancer.

The film opened in the Us last November through Clarius Entertainment under the title My All American and Universal handles ancillary rights.

Spotlight is also talking up Bitter Harvest, an epic romance set against the backdrop of the Holodomor – Stalin’s persecution of Ukrainians during the 1930s – that stars Max Irons and Samantha Barks.

Claire Carré’s Embers scooped best feature film in the juried awards as the southern California festival came to an end.

Carré was also named best director, while George Kosuros won best actor for American Wrestler: The Lizard. Best documentary went to Off The Rails by Adam Irving.

In the audience awards, Jeremy Profe’s The Lennon Report and Jesse Shapiro’s Nobody Walks In La took the feature film prize.

Zack Bennett and Kevin Schlanser prevailed in the documentary category for The Ataxian, while Dmitry Meskhiev’s Battalion (Russia) was named best foreign film.

The Outstanding achievement in filmmaking: feature film award went to Alex Ranarivelo for American Wrestler: The Wizard, and The Violin Teacher director Sergio Machado and The Innocents director Anne Fontaine collected the corresponding prize for foreign film.

Bob Yari took the directing honours for Papa: Hemingway In Cuba, while Dev Patel and Evanna Lynch were named best actors for The Man Who Knew Infinity and My Name Is Emily...

• It’s a good time to be Chadwick Boseman: The actor, who was cast as the Black Panther in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War last week, has also just claimed the lead in Message From The King. Fabrice du Welz is directing the revenge thriller from a script by Stephen Cornwell and Oliver Butcher. The film follows Jacob King (Boseman), a South African man who comes to Los Angeles to find his younger sister. A handful of new cast members have been added to director Jim O’Hanlon’s A Hundred Streets, which follows London residents from all backgrounds whose paths cross in a turn of dramatic events. The tragic story of Beatles member John Lennon’s murder at the hands of the deranged Mark Chapman has been committed to celluloid twice before, in 2007′s The Killing of John Lennon and 2008′s Chapter 27, but another project is now in the works that takes a different approach to the event.

The Lennon Report, from first-time director Jeremy Profe, will explore the frantic aftermath of the shooting as police officers and emergency doctors raced to save Lennon’s life. Today, Kevin Dillon boarded the movie in the role of a New York City motorcycle cop.

Much like Parkland centered on the aftermath of the JFK assassination, The Lennon Report focuses on real people who were inside Roosevelt Hospital as doctors and nurses did their best to save Lennon’s life. Among those present was Alan Weiss, a Wabc-tv producer who discovered that Lennon had been shot while being treated for an unrelated motorcycle injury.

Kevin Dillon has been cast in the indie feature The Lennon Report as a New York City motorcycle cop caught up in the race to save John Lennon's life after the rock star's Dec. 8, 1980, assassination.
