Featured review
What happens when an eclectic group of Detroit teens are doomed to spend the day in detention together? That's exactly what this modern-day tale sets out to reveal. Although Detention Day shares a slight resemblance to the well-known 1984 classic, this urban delight offers a little bit more. Throughout the day, we're given a glimpse as each teen struggles to maintain the image that has been proclaimed for them. There is the jock, the cheerleader, the misunderstood goth, her secret big sister, the wanna be rapper and a whole slew of misfits. Also leading the crew is Mr. Cayce who is seeking to show himself worthy of the administrative hierarchy of high school. Then there's Mr. Clay, the custodian who offers a few hidden talents of his own. The story line is quirky; intermixed with drama and the inner struggles of discovery. Despite the secrets, which are uncovered little by little, by the end of the day, each of the teens walk away with freshly formed friendships and a newfound realization that things aren't always as they seem. Written and directed by Marc Cayce, Detention Day is a great- grab a bowl of popcorn, kick-back kind of movie.
