This is the second time Kate del Castillo and Alberto Jimenez reunite as co stars. The first was in Reina del Sur.
The show draws its inspiration from the documentary Cocaine Cowboys also about the 1980s drug wars in Miami. Without glamorizing the violence, Duenos Del Paraiso is quite accurate in its portrayal of events in Miami at the time.
In real life, Kate Del Castillo would've been in junior high during the events depicted.
Jorge Zabaleta and Maria Elena Swett are both chilean actors.
