A wonderfully acted and well written drama set in France in the aftermath of World War One. It's a romance about the importance of memory in morality and love and coming to terms with loss on an individual and national scale.
Tim Robbins smirks his way through this cheap rip-off of the >"Count of Monte Cristo". The anti-Christian bigotry is too much >to stomach -- the murderous warden wears a cross, thumps a Bible >and utters fundamentalist platitudes. Morgan Freeman is very >solid tho
Warren Oates was one of the most valuable character actors of >his day and is always a pleasure to watch. In "Chandler" he >plays a private detective who is not quite clever enough for the >predicament he finds himself in. The plot is clever and the >relationship between Oates and Caron is off-b
