Music from Another Room (1998)
My wife and I stayed up late to watch and were rewarded
We watched out of curiosity, we stayed up late because of the surprising good plot. Characters were realistic and honest. Kleenex handy would be helpful, but a movie worth watching for sure. Although a good love story, definitely not a "chick flick". It demonstrates the power of true love and honest feelings.
Left Behind (2000)
Very, Very enlightening
A must see movie, and not just for religious freaks. If you believe the Bible you will find this accurately describes what you already believe. If you don't believe the Bible you will enjoy the story line and it will help you understand your friends who do believe the Bible. Prophecy is difficult subject and this handles it excellently.
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
We sat entranced at the action
Fairly realistic war scenes, but sometimes a bit Hollywood. We agonized over decision to rescue one boy at the expense of others and can understand both sides of argument - still haven't made up our mind. Very graphic war scenes showed the horror of war and maybe new generations will be slower to get involved - but I doubt it. Tom Hanks was masterful.
Hollywood Canteen (1944)
Pure entertainment which can never again be duplicated
If you want suspense, drama, excitement - find another movie. This is pure entertainment with a huge cast of top name stars. The story is a poor excuse to parade the big names, but who cares about plot when you have this historical document demonstrating how "old fashion decent folks" used to behave. The canteen was real, the stars banded together to do their part for the war effort. As a retired military officer I remember the good days when the military was respected and treated just as good as it was shown in the movie.
I could never imagine todays self centered stars banding together to do something similar to the Hollywood canteen. Hurray for Hollywood - the real entertainment folks with true talent.
Dances with Wolves (1990)
An interesting attempt at honesty
The author has developed an interesting story which is probably more accurate than the vast majority of westerns we grew up with. It shows the Indians as humans - different than the white man they battled, but unique in their own right. It seems the author may have gone slightly overboard and ignored some of the Indians faults, but mostly did an excellant job. Costner could have accomplished more with less, four hours is too long especially when the story dragged along at times.
Larger Than Life (1996)
Enjoyable for the gendra
This is a well done movie and fits the gendra well. Bill Murray does a masterful job of being funny and this type of slapstick humor fits him well. We watched with our Granddaughters and all four of us enjoyed it greatly.
The Sixth Sense (1999)
Great, great flick (movie)
An edge of the chair movie which was very enjoyable. It had a great plot, wonderful characters and nothing was predictable. It was a great flick without the surprise ending, it became an exceptional flick at the end. Loved it.
The Land Girls (1998)
we liked it
The plot is very realistic, the activities fun to watch, the ending hard to guess. Typical British film with hard to follow accents, bawdy behavior, average camera work. Overall a nice way to kill an hour or two.
I.Q. (1994)
My wife and I loved the storyline
A cleverly written love story. While the results may be predictable the journey there is unique and enjoyable. A most enjoyable story where true love is experienced. Melanie does not need special effects to portray her character - she is a real actress!
Scudda Hoo! Scudda Hay! (1948)
Enjoyable entertainment
No special effects, no musical numbers, no dance numbers, but a pleasant way to spend a rainy afternoon. The plot was predictable but acting was adequate and mostly realistic. Maybe not realistic results, but plot reinforced the attitude that hard work and honesty pay off in long run. Kindness to animals is nice sideline touch.
Of Human Hearts (1938)
An excellent story about human behavior.
The author touches the heart with old story that relates to today's "me" society (which in many cases is without gratitude for the contributions of others). The acting is superb and conveys the emotions of the story without special effects needed. Recommend this movie highly to everyone, should be mandatory for those under 25.
