This is the best movie I've seen in a long time, everything about it was perfect. I'll be seeing it again before it leaves theaters. The acting was sound, the rats when computerized still looked real, and the plot was believable (if not a little sad at times). About the only fault the film does have is the sounds that seem to emit from the rats, totally unrealistic. The 1971 version is one of my favorite films, and for something to out do that, it has to be good.
Superb acting from the entire cast. Bruce Abbott plays Daniel Cain a top ranked medical student at a prestigious University. The movie is basically about Abbott's life being turned upside down by an uppity exiled scientist from a foreign country. Most certainly a movie you could stand to watch over and over again. Might be a bit gory for some, but the wonderful acting abilities, and thoughtful script work overshadow most of the carnage. Highlights include, Bruce Abbott covered in blood, Bruce Abbott falling down stairs, Bruce Abbott scampering around in a bed sheet, and Bruce Abbott collapsing into a trauma induced shock. The movie is also based on author H. P. Lovecraft's "Herbert West-Re-Animator", a wonderful short story to check out to complement the film.
