I must admit I've never had many chances to watch many movies with Jet Li starring as the main protagonist.I was even told, and I then even read that Black Mask had been a real fiasco.Well, actually I didn't watch Black mask. But if Jet Li acted in that movie in the same way as he did in Romeo must die, well, goodbye Hollywood dreams! In this movie in fact I find that the other members of the cast, especially Delroy Lindo and newcomer Aalyaah but also the other apparently less important black actors in the movie went really beyond Jet Li's poor acting. I mean, they added irony to a movie which 'd have otherwise told the same story of the importance of honour for Chinese warriors.
Simply a masterpiece, a "homeric" masterpiece.John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara are here undoubtedly at their best.Barry Fitzgerald is really great. The whole cast is superb.Great songs.Wonderful landscapes;(it's Ireland! After all!).IRELAND forever!!!!!!!!
Il "Marchese del Grillo" is an incredibly enjoying movie,Alberto Sordi is absolutely a "maestro" of acting. He portrays his character in a really smashing way.You can realize better and agree with what I'm saying,if you can understand the Roman dialect,as I do.Alberto is great not only because he depicts this really existed character in a very convincing way ,but he also adds fun to the movie through the creation of Gasperino, the drunken coal seller. I think that all those American actors of Italian origins should understand and recognize that he's really their own "maestro" too. In a few words Alberto represents for the world of the cinema what Dante Alighieri still represents for the world literature Apart from our big Alberto,I must also praise the performance of the rest of the cast and the wise direction of Mario Monicelli.According to me he's the only director in the world who has always succeeded in depicting in a very faithful and convincing manner different historical periods of my country, that's Italy.
