One of Jim Carrey's WORST, in my opinion. I think I may have laughed ONCE during the entire film. The plot is weak, the acting mediocre, and the jokes are nothing new. If you're the type of person who likes being grossed out, then I guess this movie's for you. Otherwise, a real disappointment. I give it a very generous ***/**********.
...but entirely forgettable. I admit, I was up late one night, bored out of my wits, so I turned my television set on to Showtime, and this movie was showing. I have never heard of Ayn Rand, and I was disappointed we didn't get to hear more about her philosophy, and why so many people objected to it. Eric Stolz is badly miscast, in my opinion. All in all, six stars out of ten.
Stephen Rea is FANTASTIC as Colonel Burakov. This is definitely the best movie I've EVER seen based on an actual serial killer. It beats out Silence Of The Lambs anyday! Jeffrey DeMunn is PERFECT as Andrei Chikatilo. Max Von Sydow was great as the psychiatrist. Wonderful acting. I also read the book the movie is based on, and the movie stays very true to the book. Anyway, I HIGHLY recommend it! 10/10 stars.
