I recently watched this on DVD and after all the years since I first saw it, I still managed to have feelings of sadness. I am not gay, never was and never plan (happily married)to be so my enjoyment of this piece of what I think is cinema history (frankness about the gay scene, four letter words etc.,)is somewhat out of character. One cinema in the UK (Littlehampton) showed this and made a mistake with the advertising by saying "THIS IS HOT. A MUSICAL" The afternoon performance was made up mainly of the elderly and when the first swearword was spoken there was a rush for the exit. Yes, it is a little dated but that adds to the charm and the whole cast is excellent. There is no need to remake and spoil this one. John

This is a movie that was in it's time full of meaning for teenagers and young men. Lola Albright gave a stunning performance as the"older woman" and this film was as good as the book for a change. If and when it becomes available on video I will certainly buy it and hope that it still gives the same thrill as it did in the 60's

Even if it is contrived, (see previous comments) this is a is a top showcase film for rock'n'roll music, and that means REAL rock'n'roll. The songs alone are worth the money to see it and although it does feature a range of 50's music there are no poor songs. This film features Teddy Randazzo's best songs, two of LaVerne Baker's best and several all time greats. Please, please, please release it on video or dvd. This along with "The Girl Can't Help It" are the most important part of America's rock'n'roll musical history so let the world see it again. Replay it "Uncle Sam" replay it.
