Normally, English subtitled versions tend to stay closest to the story, but in this case the English audio has superbly accurate transfer of the Japanese emotion and intent and actually improved the way we see and hear the show, so it gets a 10/10 rating from me.

The use of vernacular and dialect in the English version actually makes it better, and the nuances of of what is beting said it tied to the emotion of the scene.

In my opinion, this might be the first time a dubbed version is that much better at handling the emotions. We still need more of a conclusion, maybe another season or two in order to get it all straight, but it is notably better now-- and going from extremely good to excellent might not sound like much, it it works here.

In April 2023 I went to a meeting "by women for women but men are invited" symposium and one speaker was talking about the change in how women are allowed to be themselves now, and she hung a lot of the change on this movie.

Talking to her after her presentation I had to admit that I did not remember it that way, and she told me to go back and look at it, bu to the the "original" US release DVD with the two "making of" footnotes.

Strangely enough, it does sound feminist today, and the story contex is addressed in the "how me made it" extra on the early DVD. Much of what was said then now comes off differently, and that the train wreck of shooting the move and the nightmare of editing it as a super low budget "erotic" movie with a female lead who chooses to do what she does was humor in retrospect but was bad enough a lot of people thought it might end their careers.

The lead actress, who did not speak French but who did speak fluent English was not chosen to do the English dub because they wanted a professional to do it. Shooting it was a nightmare, post production was a worse nightmare, but instead of barely making its budget it became a worldwide hit, Because it was the female character's choice to do thing what sounded funny then is now consider a breakthrough feminist part.

In retrospective it seems very different than the movie back in 1974, and that is what might make it worth watching-- for the making of and distributing of segments and the statements by the people who actually made the movie.

The characters carry over from the series and movie, but this is more or less a group of disjointed stories jammed together with emphasis on possible risque interpretations of anything said or done by any of the characters.

It is fairly fun to watch, but hurries too much to get from point A to point B, manages to step on itself in timing, and if it had a single story to support the segments it would have been much better.
