As a so-called "non-trekkie" I wasn't looking forward to seeing this film... particularly after being dragged along to "First Contact" and not being too impressed. However, this was easy to follow and really quite enjoyable! The light comedy element certainly made it more accessible to the non-trekkies like myself! And it's good to finally see some references to sex/relationships in space! I know I only have a limited knowledge of Star Trek movies and on the TV but I still understood all that was going on, and will never admit this to my husband... but I might just want to see this one again!
This film is your typical-Australian-Romantic-Comedy-Happy-Go-Lucky-Give-You-A-Nice-Feeling type of film! It is easy to watch, with lovable characters and some pretty good acting. The plot is simple to follow, and I suppose somewhat predictable but that is not really a bad thing for this type of film! Jason Donovan is excellently cast and proves himself once again as a big-screen actor and singer. His vocal talents are shown to be very natural, a total contrast to some of his earlier "pop" records. There is a good mix of Aussie-Country music which is easy to listen to and fun. A must for anyone who likes the Country-and-Western Scene.
This mini-series/movie is an example of a well-made Australian TV Drama. The characters are believable, and well-cast for the most-part. You can feel yourself sympathising with the vicar and his brother, and feeling the frustration of the doctor. There is certainly something in it for everyone. It's good to see Jason Donovan in an "evil" role... not the prissy-clean character of typical castings.
