Hit me wastes the film rights to Jim Thompson's excellent novel A SWELL-LOOKING BABE. The story is discarded in favor of a pointless exercise in Scenery-chewing by the usually superb Elias Koteas. We witness pointless double-crosses and mindless plot twists while perverting the novel."Hit Me" is a show of mediocre style instead of things that most people like in movies: good characters, exciting plot, witty dialogue, things like that.
Jim Thompson fans, the only people who would want to see this movie anyways, should be prepared for disappointment.

This is essentially a two character movie, starring the extremely attractive Pamela Gidley, and a dork. The "aberrations" are awful rubber lizards, there is NO STORY AT ALL, and for no reason an Antonio Banderas-wannabe shows up halfway through and shoots a bunch of rubber monsters in a direct rip-off of "Desperado". This is dire sludge that only appears on late-night cable, and should stay there.
Predictable? What Schwarzenegger film isn't? The Corruptor plays within the slim confines of the action movie genre to make a (mostly) believable, gritty thriller that showcases Chow Yun Fat's wonderful acting. The movie toys with the question of the characters' morality without hitting you over the head with it. The action is brutal. For the first time in a few years a director is NOT RIPPING OFF JOHN WOO! There are no "cool" slow-motion shots. No fawning hero shots. Just a stripped down, full-speed thriller. And it rocks.
