There are good roles in movies and TV. There are great roles in movies and TV. And, then...there's the stuff of legend.
The writers bring us some amazing material. The direction is spot on - dark, wet, nasty.
But let's talk about Colin Farrell for a moment, here... About half De Niro and about half Gandolfini - 100% terrifying...and likeable. Halfway through the season I still couldn't believe it was Farrell...You are behind him, completely. I want to shake his hand and thank him.
I'm not entirely convinced that he's even Irish anymore - he absolutely crushes this role - so much heart and bravado. So much NY gangster. Scorcese definitely loves this series (I mean, I haven't talked to him in awhile but...).
You don't even have to be a DC fan to enjoy this series. It's an incredible story - well-written, well-cast and a true gem for anyone to enjoy. Sophia's story is a nice addition to an otherwise great plot. It creates a critical dissonance. You just don't know what's coming. And you might not believe it when it arrives.

Coming out of his "retirement" from governor of California - what we have here is a giant plate of eat this and like it...
And I liked it.
Arnie, being Arnie, as a small town sheriff...but his past is in question. I mean, aren't all of our pasts in question? But here, it matters... Real lives are at stake. And the Jackass guy just happens to be available. He has a dumbass hat and tons of guns...
I gotta say, this film is seriously fun to watch and seriously fun to marvel over... It shoulda sucked, but it didn't. /salute to the director and /salute to whoever the hell made this happen..
It's a great piece of action film-making - with great effects and great faces...

So you have Superman - but he's a spoiled brat. The concept is pretty amazing - we don't usually see origin stories about villains for the most part... Here we have the spaceship has crashed down near a farm, contains alien baby, adopted by farmers, baby grows up to have super powers - but he's an asshole.
The leads are really incredible and the script is pretty solid. Though I see a lot of conflicting reviews... "The actors all do their best...and are solid throughout.." or "The acting is stiff and I just don't care about any of them..." or "the script sucks and there's too much gore"...
I found that Banks and Denman are really incredible in their roles. Banks stood out (as she usually does) as a character portrayed beyond what was written. And gore? Please, if Superman were evil - you can expect gore. So find another reason to complain.
All in all, money well spent on the new 4k disc. Pretty terrifying and nice to be able watch whenever I want...
