Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities (2022)
Started Great, But Then...
The first few episodes were great but then they slowly started to go downhill in my opinion. I thought the last two episodes were the worst.
There was something for everyone, some fast paced and others were slow burns. The acting was very good in all of the episodes, but again I thought the last two episodes were pretty bad.
The seventh episode was just way too weird. It was like an acid trip with no discernible story line. Nothing about it made any sense.
The final episode was so slow for a mediocre and unbelievable payoff. It was supposed to show a mothers grief for a lost child but the whole thing just didn't flow well. It was incredibly slow and the ending was a let down.
I really liked the monster design in most of the episodes, they were unique and creepy looking. Even in the episodes I didn't like I thought the acting was very good. I was just bummed about the final two episodes.
Overall a good show for Halloween!
Nope (2022)
So Bad
If Jordan Peele wasn't involved with this turd it would be rated a 2 or 3. The story line was just ridiculously bad. Nothing made any sense!
You have an alien that sucks up people and cars but they kill it with an oversized balloon? People lived in the area for years but suddenly it makes itself visible on a daily basis. It won't bother you if you don't look at it!?
The acting was great either. The woman was super annoying and the main character had zero range/emotion, like he was on horse tranquilizers.
I was so excited for this movie but it was truly a letdown. Ah well, guess you can't win em all.
W lesie dzis nie zasnie nikt II (2021)
Could've Been Great
As a lover of horror comedies, I enjoyed the first entry in Nobody Sleeps In The Woods Tonight. Good atmosphere, decent acting, gore, and comedy. This entry was a bit of a let down though.
It tried to cram too much into one movie--the love story plot line just didn't work. I loved the huge twist with seeing things from the monsters perspective but they didn't do much with it. The monsters did more talking to each other than actually doing stuff.
I hope they make a 3d installment but with a better story and more black comedy.
Judy Justice (2021)
Like watching a star athlete stay in the league for 1 or 2 years too long; Spiraling down the toilet of obscurity..
I remember watching the Peoples Court with Judge Wapner. It's obvious Judge Judy is intelligent and quick witted but I don't like how she treats people that are honest and polite. She's consistently nasty to everyone, but I guess that's her shtick.
This new formula is nothing new except that it doesn't seem as polished and well produced. I'm also not a fan of discussing the case with her granddaughter after every case--it makes no sense. It's like all these reality shows with a panel of overly dramatic fake judges who aren't even needed because the audience votes are supposed to be what matters.
I don't see this show lasting more than a single season. It's certainly not going to have the same viewership numbers and demographic as network TV.
The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
Tony Who?
This was a huge letdown for me. I thought this was going to be about how Tony got into the life. It's nothing of the sort. This is more to do with race relations in Newark, and it was pretty boring. The acting was fine but this shouldn't have been associated with The Sopranos at all. I'm just glad this was on HBO Max and I didn't pay to see this in a theater.
Malignant (2021)
Guess I Didn't 'Get It'
I thought this movie was terrible. It made no sense, the acting was meh, and it was just plain dumb. Apparently, according to some reviews, that's the point of this movie? People like this because it's campy and B-movie grade?
When I think of campy fun horror movies I think of something like the Evil Dead--which was awesome. This is nothing like that.
I have a feeling if this didn't have James Wans name attached it would be rated a 3 or less and been straight to the DVD bargain bin. To each their own I guess.
Black Summer (2019)
Kill Em' All!!!
First season was pretty good. I couldn't wait for season 2 as I love the fast running infected type zombies.
The writing for season 2 just seemed bad. There were so many things that didn't make sense. Like why are there two groups of people killing each other for seemingly no reason? Why do characters run away from a single infected when they're holding a gun!? Why would you leave a mecca stocked with food and electricity? That ski lodge was like an oasis in a desert and they want to leave after a single day to find a plane that they don't even know where it goes.
I love the action and enjoy seeing the characters die as they're all pretty annoying. The only one I like is the Korean woman and that's mainly because she doesn't say stupid sht or kill people for literally no reason. I'm hoping the mother and daughter die in season 3!
Army of the Dead (2021)
HOT GARBAGE
Say you had a landfill full of dirty diapers, rotten food, bloody needles, and used tampons roasting in the hot sun. I'd rather wade through that hot garbage than watch this sht again. Characters do the stupidest sht possible. Nothing made any sense. Thanks for getting my hopes up only to steal 10 hours from my life, or however long this steaming pile of horse sht was.
Manyeo (2018)
Like A Brutal Neo From The Matrix
I just watched this movie on Netflix not really knowing what is what about at all going in. I never heard of it, and even after watching the trailer I wasn't sure what I was getting into. Also, the title is kind of strange as it turned out it had nothing to do with witchcraft or witches.
I've been on a Korean movie/TV show binge lately and gave it a shot. I'm absolutely blown away! The first 3/4 of the movie is complete drama, with a sprinkling of comedy while walking through the backstory. The last 1/4 was brutal action--I loved every second of it!
As soon as I was done watching I came here hoping the 2nd one was out already but no such luck yet. I can't wait to learn more about these assassins roles and the people who created them. Also, I want so much more of that brutal butt kicking!
Last Shift (2014)
Loved It!
I'm a diehard supernatural movie type of guy. Unfortunately, I've been so disappointed and let down in the recent years when it comes to scary movies. I figured maybe I'm just getting older and I lost the ability to be scared by a movie.
Movies like these remind me that's not the case. What's most impressive is that it was all shot in 1 location, with 1 lead, and hardly any stupid jump scares. Everything was built up and suspenseful.
I actually enjoyed the ending very much. It reminded me of Oculus and The Autopsy Of Jane Doe, other movies I absolutely love, in that it's a psychological fright fest where most everything is in their heads. I couldn't be happier that I stumbled across this movie and am kind of shocked this didn't have a larger release. I wish supernatural movies like this would come around more often!
The Dead Don't Die (2019)
Complete And Utter Letdown
So I saw the trailer and cast and was like 'I'm all in!'. Couldn't wait to see it as I love zom-coms. This movie was like meeting a woman in a bar that looks like a super model, then you bring her home and realize it's Honey Boo Boos mom. Yeah, it's just like that. Going from super excited to taking anti-depressents and seeing a shrink 6 days a week. I still feel dirty after watching this.
Light of My Life (2019)
Children Of The Road
This movie is very much like 'The Road' and 'Children Of Men' smooshed together, just not as good. It's hard for me to get through anything with Casey 'MarbleMouth' Affleck, but I gave it a shot anyway as I love post-apocalyptic movies. He should give mumble rap a try. Anyway, the movie has been done before so I wasn't expecting much and that's what I got. Another slow burner, just a little below average fare.
Ash vs Evil Dead (2015)
Amaznig Show
This was such a funny show with tons of action and gore. I seriously can't believe Starz is cancelling the show after 3 seasons. One of, if not the best, horror TV show available.
