This is not a comedy horror/sci fi, it's just a crappy film!.. Not funny, not horrifying (too cheap), not clever, not really anything!.. I would say it was a film school student film, but I've seen Spielberg's 'Duel'... Honestly, don't waste hours of your life, when you could watch paint dry!.. Neither character has anything going for them, the plot is non-existent, there is mo character development, and no real ending!.. Honestly, one of the worst films I've seen recently, and I've watched Jaden Smith in several outings!.. Apparently I've not written a long enough review, so I shall keep criticising anything and everything else...
... of a British classic. Completely lacking in atmosphere-in the original, Caine as Carter exudes a stone cold, ruthless facade, and his attitude to the various deaths is one of necessary collateral damage. In this reboot, Stallone is too mouthy and far too much the nice guy-I guess this is because Sly values his public image so much, but it's also evident in the other characters: Kinnear is a wimpy nerd, instead of a shrewd, calculating boss... Interestingly, the only credible character is Brumby, here played as a cameo by Caine-in 1971 he was a rather ridiculous, bumbling character-hardly credible as a gangland boss... I did enjoy Rourke's performance, but that's about it... I say, don't waste your time, and watch the original instead... Why is Hollywood so bereft of new ideas?..
Dad's Army is just that, and so good, it's never been sold off by the BBC to any digital comedy channel, and is on virtually permanently looped repeats on BBC 2-and still draws respectable viewing figures...
I was born in 1966, but lived abroad until 1978, so I am definitely not the demographic this was aimed at-but it's still my favourite programme of all...
I am unusual (as a Brit) to have seen the woeful 'Rear Army', the awful American copy-don't waste your time!..
Somebody elsewhere asked about the remaining cast members: Ian Lavender (Pike), and Frank. Williams (vicar) both have cameos in the film remake with Toby Jones and Wales' finest (surprisingly not as bad as it could have been)...
Ignore the blindingly obvious plotlines, the fact that Cpl Jones will always end up in water/stuck up a tree/generally in trouble, and, especially in the early episodes, the rather awful VT quality-some of these episodes are older than I am!..
Something which only hit me relatively recently, is that the whole series is written (by Croft and Perry) for John le Mesurier (Sgt Wilson), notMainwaring at all!..
I spent time in the modern army, and I can tell you that over 50 years later, an awful lot still rings true!..
I love it, but I shall never buy it on VHS/DVD/Blueray/Streaming, or I shall simply watch them to death!..
Don't panic!..
