Bawaal (2023)
Not the bawaal we were expecting!
The intriguing trailer's references to Hitler and II world war had generated quite a curiosity regarding the film. But it is the same routine love story, Varun Dhawan plays a superficial character, and his eventual path to finding real happiness through his wife and the events in Europe forms the crux of the story. The only saving grace of the film is a recreation of the war scene, it is breathtaking and a job well done. Apart from it, there is nothing novel about the film, frankly, Nitesh Tiwari should be making a better film with that budget and his skills. Varun is tepid, his last good performance was Badlapur, Jhanvi is just ok and other supporting cast do their part well. I seriously wanted to like this film and gave it a chance, but it quickly turned into a hard watch. No wonder, the producer decided against releasing it in cinema.

The mist is within us!
On the surface, it seems like a regular homicide investigation drama but as we delve deeper, it exposes human nature in its crudest form. We all have underlying weaknesses, raging egos, perennial greed and have resorted to despicable actions to prove our point. And they all tend to be masked with the passage of time, failing to acknowledge, wearing a cloud of mist in our eyes. This naked truth is laid bare by the characters muddled in the murder case.
This is one of the best series of the year, no surprise it is being showered with praise and appreciation from both critics and audience. A must-watch.

Profound beauty of first love
After watching the trailer, i understood the story had nothing new to offer. As the narrative moved ahead, the plot became quite predictable. But there wasn't a moment of cringe, dullness nor any scenes felt generic. The protagonist kim yoo jung has the required depth of convincing in every scene, she is the catalyst and the chain that binds the plot and the characters together. She is backed by terrific young cast who play their part with utmost sincerity.
See this movie if you are into romantic genre adorned with nostalgia. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it, all in all a poignant ode to the first love.
