Da Vinci's Inquest: The Hunt (1999)
Canadians as Americans
I absolutely love this show and this story arc and this episode. BUT the show has a habit of casting Americans as Canadians and Canadians as Americans. The FBI expert speaks so Canadian it's almost distracting. Toh-xi-Coh-Lohgy
Now Tah-xi-cahlogy
Canadians think they don't have an accent.
Anyway. Brilliant. Show. Brilliant writing and acting. Some real talent here.
What this episode does is start to weave two completely disparate stories together. It introduces a wonderfully evil antagonist and then offers us a nice twist. It sets up the crime quickly and brings in the bigger picture with skill.
Michael Kohlhaas (2013)
And then an Apache helicopter ....
No, sorry, no Apache helicopters. No blazing finale.
Those who decry the.lack of that.
. Well maybe crack a book once on a while.
Great story. Really well acted. A look, an exhalation is maybe all we need.
A world.of harsh winds and few words? Sign me up. A simple story in some ways about a man wronged who won't just take it.
A complicated story of politics and class divisions.
Some astounding cinematography, with that mounted attack among the rocks one of the most.compelling scenes I've seen in film.
But its.also a film you can't watch just.once and you can't watch while checking your phone every two seconds. Lay in a couple of brings, darken the room, and be prepared to be indignant.
The Little Things (2021)
Get over yourselves
Very good movie with an old style feel. All tou 7/10 and below haters should just chill and enjoy a movie made with some thought.
Doesn't break new ground much? Actually, a little. It sticks a nice.little needle in urban arrogance and that's not a bad thing.
And it takes a shot at tje fact that the same problems exist even today.
It is very well acted and yes it's noveau noire ... that's also a good thing.
Really not sure whatmyou people want. With so much crap out there this movie brings good performances even from the bit players, good writing and uses LA quite well as an extra character. As the title says, get over yourselves and like this film.
Fool Me Once (2024)
Not Again
First off this has been done before (the Widow). Second, the performances are fine. 3rd ... I am so bored with this BS where every white.male is a compete jerk or failure. It's just so predictable. There's no tension or surprise when you know who the bad guys are. So boring. I tries to hang on longer to see if it had any nuance at Ll but of course it didn't.
Pull a guy's panta down - you go girl! (Childish). Tell a bereaved widower that losing a sister trumps losing a wife ... stupid and obnoxious. I cam tell you from personal experience ...no, no it doesn't.
And finally, Maya is an idiot and there really is no defense of her stupidity given that she shows herself to be savvy and smart.later. Either she's Street smart or naive, but her stupid.mistakes don't ting true. And her desire to leave her daughter.with a drunk who doesn't supposedly care about his.own kids is ... questionable (?)
Keep Breathing (2022)
Compelling
It's not like she figures it all out at the beginning or even really at any time. She's tenacious but error prone and that's the point.
A little magical realism fueled by oxy tainted water (I think) and I just simply found it worth watching.
Unrealistic? Maybe but I've seen enough I Shouldn't Be Alive that I could buy it.
ExPatriot (2017)
Should be rated higher
Good movie. Well acted. Interesting plot. Intelligent. I do mot get tje low rating this movie has received. I don't care that much about surprise twists ... What I do like is how this is mostly about how characters figure their way out of pretty difficult situations.
Reacher (2022)
Made For Grownups
Smart framing. Faithful but not to the point of madness. The reviews panning this either don't get it or wanted something it's not.
This rings true for the book it's based on and is a show about characters and brains and will ... Reacher fights because he's prepared to. The cure for that which ails our society.
