The Little Mermaid (2023)
Lack of magic
Within the Disney Renaissance, one of the most notable films is The Little Mermaid, which stands out for its magnificent composition primarily by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. They undertook meticulous work that transports the audience from the movie theater into an underwater world, where the harmonies, combined with the visual aspects, create an explosion of emotions in the viewers.
Following this success, we find ourselves more than 30 years later with a version that attempts to faithfully recall its predecessor, but it has a limitation, it lacks the elements that only animation can provide.
Starting with the songs, which are the pillars of this story, "Part of Your World" is, in my opinion, the most remarkable and perhaps the only one that truly tugs at the nostalgic strings on which the movie relies. Halle Bailey's vocal performance, especially in this song, is nothing less than what was expected, a great start to the rest of the songs that maintain the essence of Ariel's desire to explore the world she doesn't belong to.
On the other hand, we have what I consider a disaster with "Under the Sea", despite having Daveed Diggs portraying Sebastian, a musical theater actor with an ample musical experience, he is constrained within one of the worst character designs this film could have. The visual setting lacks color, appearing entirely gray and soulless, where Sebastian fails to stand out until the last 10 seconds at the ending, where poorly placed streamers at least add a bit of color.
Melissa McCarthy delivers a rather average version of Ursula, with nothing particularly wrong, but also nothing noteworthy. Overall, her character seems even darker than in the 1989 version, but the script fails to give her the depth despite providing her with two extra scenes. As a result, viewers don't perceive her as an imposing villain who instills fear.
One of my biggest disappointments was Prince Eric, portrayed by Jonah Hauer-King. His solo song, "Wild Uncharted Waters," which seemed to me as mediocre, considering it was written and produced not only by Alan Menken but also with the involvement of Lin-Manuel Miranda. I not only expected a more daring staging, but the lyrics themselves are very poor and superficial. They fail to make the character connect with the audience or provide any development or backstory before the events in the film. I'd like to compare this song to "Evermore," also written by Alan Menken and Tim Rice, from the 2017 adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast" it serves as a great example of what a co-protagonist's song should encompass to truly contribute value to their development and the film itself.
In general, regarding the plot, I believe this adaptation attempts to bring a different touch, which succeeds in creating a fresh atmosphere. However, its development falls short, leaving gaps in the story. For example, the relationship between Ariel and king Triton, portrayed by Javier Bardem, lacks sufficient script development, limited to four dialogues and two brief scenes. The mermaid sisters seem more like an excuse to justify ethnic diversity rather than contributing to the plot. As mentioned earlier, Eric's development is lacking, failing to establish a connection with his family or his people. Considering he is a prince, there is no demonstration of interest in his people beyond exploring the sea without any additional drive. Halle Bailey's vocal work is truly excellent; however, it is not enough to convince that she is the only girl who could have portrayed the character.
The most remarkable aspect of the film is that, surprisingly, there is a development of the romantic relationship between Ariel and the prince. Some modified details to give Ariel more prominence were well-executed. Additionally, the dog that appears provides a breath of fresh air compared to the other animals that are difficult to appreciate.
Pd: I was really happy when I saw Jodi Benson's cameo.
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022)
Good
Every single review about this film, gave me really big expectations. So at the beginning i was kinda excited, but the film tournd out to be really obvious for being directed by Guillermo del Toro, the misctic and the magical characters... it was predictable.
All the visuals are really pretty and they really did their job, but the story could be something more. Also, the scenes that looked a little bit darker, tournd out to be the best.
The story about Jepeto´s son was a good adition.

The Pirate Fairy (2014)
Good but predictable
For a movie that pretended to be for children, it´s okay.
But as a young adult, i think there is no surprise, i think that is the most sluggish of the rest of the tinker-bell universe. It also seems vere forced the new items that could be linked to story of Peter Pan and Garfio, so it really seems very forced, when it´s supossed not to be necessary involved with that stories.
It is not really bad, it just needed more deepness in the script or a memorable soundtrack.

Paris, Texas (1984)
It was... okay
I mean, it was good, there are a lot of memorable sequences, a very good dialogues, but to me it seems kinda empty.
The actors were there, of course they were talking but there wasn´t too much, it seems vere pretencious to be a film with more than 2 hours, there are a lot of scenes that could have been shorters, it was just too long, i never feel conected.
And there a good things to say about the director, the use of the colors on the film were too good, i´m not saying is bad but i really feel it was too long and kinda boring.

Kimi no me ga toikaketeiru (2020)
Cliché is back!
This was nothing but an lovely story, I do not care if it´s predictable, I don´t care if the plot is sort of predictable, this was so delightful!
From start to end I was caught by the story, and I think the production made such a good job by putting every single item for the blind girl, it was nice to see how she was using all the props on screen. And I´m grateful that mixed martial arts were not the center of the story.
I really enjoyed, I recommend it for those who are looking for a good love story <3.
Pride & Prejudice (2005)
Boring
I think I had a lot of expectations abouth this film, all the ones who says this is their favourite film, that is sooo loveable, that the main story is so delightful, I´m sorry, it couldn´t catch my attention.
I have to admit that all the actors are really good, i believe they do a great job, but i think is the plot that makes me feel I´m watching just another drama movie, when people always says this one is so great and you die for how mucho they love each other, I just want it to end.
Blue (2002)
I really ejoyed
Even though I think it could had a better editions job, I really appreciate the effort from the director, he caught all my attention right on the main characters, the story envolved me, even the darkest parts.
This is not a movie for everyone, is kinda long, and you must enjoy japanese cinema, but I think it was a story aboyt innocent love (or sort kind of innocent), Kirishima and Endo are really cute, I understood completely every felling Kirishima was haveing when she found out the secret from Endo, I think it was one of the best parts. Also how both of them imagined to scape to Tokyo, to me it became a classic.
Cinderella (2021)
Good dresses, just it
All the movie is like: ???????
This was not Cinderella, this is not what we wanted, this is a classical, not a story about feminism and freedom, Cinderella is the complete opposite of what they did.
And please, of course Idina Menzel is a great singer and has made a lot of work on Brodway, please she didn´t deserve this.
Also the Camilas performance was really weird.
Lightning was awful too.
And why they did a lot of covers? It was so weird.
The rats were the funniest.
Also I liked the godmother.
Purple Hearts (2022)
I had no hopes but they gave me everything!
Okay this may be a classic story you could predict every single movement, but I really thaught there would be anything goog but guess what, is really good!
Not just the character design, but the construction of the story between Cassie and Luke, I think is been like years since the last good story of love.
Once everything has been served to the table, everything goes so delightful and sweet.
The best plot was the on from Cassies best friend.
The worse was the father, so insignificant.
Some cool songs.
A good characters plot.
The Dreamers (2003)
Bertolucci´s letter love
I had no big expectations on the film, and I didn´t know a lot abour it when I first started it, but in the second it started I felt so involved, the plot was attractive, I think all the cinema lovers will understand every puzzles on screen.
Even though there´s a lot of voyeurism, sex and incest, you can still enjoy all the hues and views that Bertolucci captured on his camera. Also, the actors really understand their roles and figure it out how to show to the public what was their character about.
Also the ending was spectacular, I could write a whole article about it.
If you´re a cinema lover like me, and you have at least 18 year old, this one is for you.
Week end (1967)
Strange, like a nightmare
I think it was like a critique of the modern world and the new way of civilization, I don´t think this is a film for everyone. Starting with the fact that feels heavy to watch, and there are a lot of strange cuts, it tourns out in a fascinating trip with our two main characters spending a lot of time in a road trip across a lot of things I can´t even describe.
I recommend this for those who are looking for a french movie, and a introspective one.
+Has a good camera direction, es pretty much what we see on these days.
Elvis (2022)
Wise men say only fools rush in
The worse part, is that you feel in a ride of information that never stops, there are a lot of things happening every single second, so much data, so much to explain...
But that´s it, the rest is jus amazing! Austin Butler does an extraordinary job, he really took the king of the rock n roll and and brought him back to earth. I think it was because of Baz Luhrmann that the film really works.
Tom Hanks... I can´t say the same, the character is good but it feels weird some times.
There are some plots that deserved more time screen. But I really appreciate all of the stages.
Krótki film o milosci (1988)
A movie about feelings
I had a lot of interest about this film. I thought it could have a lot of mini monologues about love. But I never imagined this could be the opposite.
As the name, this is a short film about love, but we have to understad, what is love? Is it sex? Is it interest? Is it obsession? All these questions will be answered by some scenes without dialogue, the viewer must be watching and at the same time we have to answer all those questions in our minds, I think is the magical part on it.
Otherwise, whil I was watching the film, i lost the interest like 3 or 4 times, is kinda slow at some points and there are things that you could understand in less than 2 minutes but the scene is like 12 minutes long.
The Sea Beast (2022)
AMAZING graphics, but a well known script
First of all, i have to say that this film gave me everything I was asking for, a good dialogues, characters with something to say, pretty animals, and all of that. Definitely this is another level for the animation.
And whil I was watching it, every like 15 minutes another film came to my mind and i was thinking "Oh, this is like another movie" wich i don´t blame, but is something that a lot of people are talking about and I completely understand, but I don´t mind.
A great movie about and adventure with rare creatures, but this isn´t something we haven´t seen before, however is really fun.
Bamui haebyun-eoseo honja (2017)
Bunch of ideas
I have to start with the idea that this is definitely (not even close) to an easy-watch movie. There are a lot of large scenes that are basically just people having a conversation, this is not a movie for everyone.
But, if you´re looking for an introspecting kind of movie, this is the one. We have a bunch of idea of what is love about, if there are people "qualified" to love and all those kind of thoughts.
Is really interesting if you want to have a different perspective about a hard way to love or felling lonely, but sometimes the scene is so long that you lose interest.
Glamour Girls (2022)
They cannot found a worse cast
The plot was kinda atractive in a lot of ways, but why do all the actors are like amateur? Is really awful to watch a Netflix production with the worse cast ever existed.
The soundtrack is good, check it out in spotify.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
What i expected
The last thing we know about Thor is that he became some sort of clownsy character, and that is what the film gave me, a God with a lot of super powers but also a lot of jokes. Valkerie was taken apart, which i do not liked, and Natalie Portman role was okay but something was missing, idk if the problem are the jokes idk but it was weird. Besides the scene with the kids was super fun, really took the film and push it to another level.
Under the Silver Lake (2018)
Fun but ???
I ejoyed, i really did, the story contains a lot of clues that keeps you attention on it, but there are things that doesn´t make any sense, but is okay, is a movie for those who are looking for something different.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Loved it!!
I loved sooo mucho the little princess Leia, the character is so good and the girl who plays the role is the best cast I ever seen in a kid.
The plot is kinda ???? Idk, i expected more trouble, and even though chapter 4 for to me is completely empty, the resto of it is so fascinating, there are a lot of things happenning, I never missed the enthuasiasm.
Stop thinking as an old 60 year old man and enjoy the series!!
Love & Gelato (2022)
Cliché and gelato
This film has some comedy, wich makes you enjoy it just a little bit.
The rest is just awkward characters trying to convince you this is a story about "love" ?
The girl is just anoying, the guy who is rich is unmemorable, and the one who cooks is kinda nice, that´s it.
À bout de souffle (1960)
Historically interesting
There are some good scenes with Patricia, she takes the movie to another level, Michel is just boring, the guy you expect to meet at the latest 50´s
However, this is a great representation of the decade, is good just if you are looking for a film from the 50´s.
The Butterfly Effect (2004)
A blow of mind
I really enjoyed the film, the plot is really hooking, the main characters are fascinating, every step they take is kinda weird at the beginning but the script help to understand all the pieces.
Is really good, but there are some lazy parts and holes in the movie.
Spiderhead (2022)
A surprise plot, but an obvious finale
Spiderhead was a surprise for this weekend at Netflix. It came out with a great cast, an interesting plot and good photography.
Perhaps, making a deep representation about how a common person feels somethings like love, fear, angry, happines or phobia is something really interesting, I think this time whoever thar worked on the script for the film made a really good investigation job.
But the finale... i think it needed like 5 more minutes to have a really good end, is really fast, the main characters end where they have to but everything they build, all the things that were involved are just there, without have a purpose and it really needs some more scenes to have a great ending.
The Prince & Me (2004)
Expected less
Of course we know how this kinda movies are going to end. The prince & me has that kind of plots where everything comes in the "perfect time" so the characters can have a wonderful story about love.
Some of the plots are exagerated, but at the end this is still a movie about monarchy and kings and queen, so what do we expect? Exactly, something different.
The main character, does no have any other personality rather than "I´m a geniuos, and I have to study so I can go to college" and it´s perfectly fine, but sometimes is kinda the same thing over and over.
The last like 40 minutes you think "oh right, I know where this is going" but in the last 10 minutes the girl change her mind and does not go to the easy way. So all the effort that she and her friends did, were not worth it, so it´s not consistant.
Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022)
Good idea, boring characters
The idea of kinda explain what is going on with what we are living right now abour the reboots is okay, is really goo by explain it. But the plot is not really impresive, do not caught me, but is kinda fun. Also you can think this exact movie but with others main characters and it wouldn´t be any different.
