This episode brought to a head so many years, episodes, and series of Star Trek lore. It does justice for the crew of the Enterprise and the ship itself that has so much history. Someone who has spent a lot of time with these characters, like myself, will have their hair raised for much of the episode. It also makes a place for a future Legacy. The Borg have been a huge enemy for this crew for a long time, and there is some closure in this episode. The evolution of Data is a.done correctly here as his character is blended, but not lost with other iterations of Soong's creation. I'm not sure there is another Trek episode with a higher user rating. It has the effect of a grand finish to a story, feeling like a movie in delivery. I feel like they purposely may have went light on the first two seasons so they could go all out here. Picard is frail in S1 and 2. Now he is in his chair, firmly commanding in his old, powerful voice, "Engage!"
What we are witnessing is a great justice for what I consider to be the prime Trek cast. If this show wraps up with the same quality in story and production that is being shown here, I think a lot of fans will feel content. Now if they could've made this a three season arc, that would have been ideal. Nonetheless, this episode and all of the others of this season have been highly enjoyable. I'm assuming this will be one of the highest rated seasons in Trek history when looking at the episode ratings (already 3 ep. Over 9 rating, and 5 ep. Over 8 rating. Even though it's not episodic by nature, I hope the studios can sift through and see the elements of production, writing and story that make this Prime Trek.
Who doesn't enjoy a good satanic cult story. I hope I didn't say too much. No, I didn't. You're going to enjoy this, probably. I'm a big fan of the miniseries for stories of this scope. Just the right amount of time to get into some detail, goat worshipping, hedonism and solid character development without laying out the architectural plans for a small city. Can't argue with it. The acting is decent and production values not bad considering what is allowed. It is Netflix. Now they should just continue Archive 81. Even with a simmered budget that show could go big places given a second season. Still scares the willies out of me when I'm clogged up, much like this one. Cheers.
