Cam Closer II (2023)
Super creepy
One of the things that I admire the most about this short, among others created by the same director, is how well executed the combination between realism and creepiness is done . I personally loved that not many jumpscares were used and that the room and short film were mostly shot with bright lights. The ghost was super intense and the storytelling with the phone made the scenes even creepier. The acting is realistic too , one of my absolutely fave parts of this short film was the stairs at the end , the use of shadows and the constant change from the phone and the characters pov , made my heart go so fast !
Scream VI (2023)
They have listened to the bad reviews from scream 5
I honestly have to say that I loved this film ! The main thing that I loved is the whole storyline , it was pretty rich . Every scene adds perfectly one to the other . All the characters are super charismatic. Ghostface is the scariest one until date . I loved how the tension is built on every single attack ! The k*ills are super creative and this is one of those films in the franchise that surprise you every second . I feel like everything that was wrong with scream 5 , was covered with scream 6. The opening kill was extremely creative !! Overall I hope this movie gets a lot of love cause it deserves. A perfect slasher.
Cocaine Bear (2023)
Fun slasher
It's good to see fun slashers making a comeback , we first got Megan and now this .
I absolutely loved the way the bear looked , absolutely fascinating how the camera worked with the facials and the shadows. Like a proper slasher villain . The gore and blood was very surprising too . You don't expect much from a comedy slasher but I was pleased . Characters were enjoyable, although, there were too many and their storylines felt pretty messy at times.
The ending didn't feel connected to the rest of the film but I do appreciate having memorable moments like the ambulance . One last thing : can we please stop with racist jokes in 2023 ? Why Elizabeth ? It was so annoying to hear Colombia and cocaine on the same sentence. Come on now.
Prey for the Devil (2022)
Why did this get a theatrical release
I cannot believe that this kind of movie got a theatrical release and soon a physical media release when films like Prey, Hellraiser 2022, Fresh and more went directly into streaming ?? My main issue with prey for the devil is how basic & unoriginal it is . There is nothing new about this film , it doesn't bring anything new to the table . I hate to talk this bad about movies because as a filmmaker student I look forward to check different kind of filmmaking but doesn't mean that every film made its incredible . I do appreciate the cinematography work and you can tell they were trying their best to save this film . I guess the ones to blame here are the writers and producers.
I usually enjoy possession movies , for example popular films like the conjuring movies are beautiful possession films . Prey for devil relies so much on cheap jumpscares, bad dialogue & bad characters ( which brings me to the point that i didn't believe at all that those people wanted to be studying whatever they were doing )
I wish the next possession films take different turns to be unique and different cause otherwise they shouldn't be made on the first place and instead , invert that time & money on another project.
Bros (2022)
Entertaining, it could have done more
I'm queer writing this .
First thing that I would like to write is that I am really thankful this movie exist. No necessarily because of the plot or storyline but because of the representation that's on it . I mean, an all queer casted movie ? Yes please .
Secondly, I really had a good time , I had laughers, tears and overall I didn't feel bored so it's definitely rewatchable for me .
Now , when it comes to cons of the film , the first is that it has some technical issues for example the way the movie is edited was weird . Some dialogues and scenes were weak & unnecessary.
Despite that and some other negative aspects . I have to say that one of the best pros of the film is the main character, he feels like a real person , tired of this hetero supremacy world, wanting to give a change and a voice to the queers , in some aspects, I personally identified with him. I also found out cute his relationship with Aaron ; although at some parts was not believable. I absolutely adored the lgtbq+ museum committee . I would love to see more of them.
Overall , I wish the movie didn't include so many stereotypes society wants to create about the queers and that instead it focused more in the love story.
Halloween Ends (2022)
Disappointment at its best
What can I say about this ? First of all let's start on how irrelevant the storyline was and how unconnected to the previous is . The score wasn't great either. Most of the characters don't have a good development and some decisions are very questionable. Most of the time it drags with subplots that don't make sense .
A few good things about it could be that the kills are great and Laurie is a great Lead.
I didn't hate the concept . I just wish it took place somewhere else . Even for a remake . Honestly Michael was made so dirty , it's a completely new character on a bad way . Not relatable to the incredible from the first two film.
A huge disappointment and a bad way to end this trilogy.
Goodnight Mommy (2022)
Unnecessary remake
If they had the budget to cast Naomi Watts , why not making a new completely different film ?? Why remaking something that wasn't needed 😭
Ps: leave foreign films alone.
This film personally didn't have a substance since it was a shot for shot remake , it didn't stand out by itself . They could have some so much more especially with the torture scenes . Naomi watts tried her best to give a great performance ( which she did ) but her character was so plain , same with the kids. It was so obvious what was going on . And most importantly, this film wasn't as creepy as the original , which proves that sometimes foreign films are better left out alone.
Orphan: First Kill (2022)
Super entertaining
This film didn't disappoint !!!!! Very entertaining and the plot ??? Didn't see it coming at all !!! This prequel made justice to the 2009 masterpiece.
Nope (2022)
It was good but that's it ?
Personally wouldn't label this as a horror. It wants to be many genres at the same time. It could have easily been cut out a bit . I absolutely loved the horses . My fave animals . Still digesting this film but it definitely didn't make feel the emotions 'get out' and 'us' did .
Bullet Train (2022)
One of the best films of the year
So rewatchable , everyone did a fantastic job. Nothing makes sense but thats the beauty of this film !!!
And it only costed 85M ??? The gray man , you have some stuff to clarify.
Prey (2022)
PLEASE AND THANK YOU
What a time to be a film fan . This film gives everything it has to offer . I never thought a prequel could be this original and unique ! I really hope we will get a physical media release , my only con and this is why is not a 10/10 film is an aspect from the ending . The rest is pure perfection.
The Gray Man (2022)
Expensive and for what ?
This film had ZERO business being this expensive (200 MILLION$ ) We are really sitting here watching Netflix spending all this money on streaming basic plain films.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Empty instalment
Despite the excitement that I had for this movie , the film doesn't add anything to the Thor universe. The fight scenes were so lame . My fave parts were Thor and Jane . Apart from , everything is pretty much forgettable.
The Black Phone (2021)
Looking forward the prequel
I would have liked some trigger warnings for the child abuse scenes 😅😅
The siblings have so much talent . I loved how this movie used its landscape, especially the basement with the phone using a few objective shots . Clever move.
However , the film is a bit messy with its villain . The film is not really sure at what it's doing with him.
Jurassic World: Dominion (2022)
Iconic way to close a franchise
We all know what we want from these movies and I think this movie succeeded at that. It has a a bit of everything , the storyline is well paced ( could have been shorter tho ) the action was so cool ; especially the Malta parts . However I do think the movie was suffocating itself with so many characters and dialogues.
Slumber Party Massacre (2021)
It's so clever
I'm amazed about how clever this movie is , it perfectly knows what it's doing and it's having fun with it . Characters are so enjoyable and the kills are definitely one of the best parts.
Loved the genre change roles compare to the og.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
So many emotions involved
This film is literally one of the best experiences I will have . It knows how to work with different kind of emotions and it knows how to develop the storyline . Most importantly, it has one of the best villains ever made .
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
It does what it has to do
TCM 2022 knows what it's doing and I'm happy for it . It has one of the best cinematography in the franchise , one of the scariest leatherface and definitely one of the best kills . I absolutely loved this film because it knows it's the 9th film on a messy franchise so it doesn't develop too much , which is okay.
Halloween II (2009)
It was going nowhere
The movie starts so strong and I was so intrigued on how this sequel was going to take place . Sadly it ended up being slight disappointing, the main reason why is because the movie doesn't know what it wants to do and it becomes messy. Yes , the kills are gorgeous and graphic but there is no substance behind . I hated the end because the main aspect why Michael is terrifying is taken away from him.
Superhost (2021)
Simple but effective
Hands down one of the creepiest villains I've seen in a while . You really feel threatened by her. Despite having some acting issues by the couple . The movie knows how to end . I'm kind of glad with the end , it made sense . This movie has material for a prequel or sequel !
Senior Year (2022)
Super entertaining with a great message behind
I'm surprised by how many laughs I had with this film . I do appreciate the message behind where everyone is just the same and high school is more than temporary. The soundtrack is beautiful, I loved the Britney Spears honourable mention. The commentary to social media was quite important since many people act like these characters.
X (2022)
average slasher
I do understand the hype behind this film . However I do not think is a different slasher , just because the characters are making an adult film . Doesn't mean is different. I didn't like the villains .it actually gives a toxic message for ageing . Some deaths were okay. I wish the movie would have kept the cinematography from the beginning, mixing found footage and actual footage .
The Green Inferno (2013)
Awesome storytelling , weak dialogue
I have to say that I found this movie very interesting, the storyline is really well paced and everything makes sense . However, the acting and dialogue were so cringe . I don't understand why some aspects were so comedic , it really ruined the vibes. My fave thing from this movie is definitely the set design, makeup and practical effects.
Creep (2004)
It had so much potential
Despite the weak acting and some camera work . This movie had a beautiful atmosphere and storyline, at some point it felt very realistic, the setting was unique since we haven't seen many horror films taking place at that landscape. The reason why it had more potential is because we don't really see the villain in action and the middle - last act was a weak .
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
My head hurts
I absolutely loved this film . Definitely one of the best productions ever . One of my fave aspects about this film is the audiography . The sound design is beautiful. The colour scheme is really well touched . My only con would be that we don't really get to know about who they are against.
