I think it's always the case that book adaptations fall a bit flatter as tv shows. It's inevitable and understood and I've yet to watch a book based show where this wasn't the case to some extent.
I approached watching the show without prejudice and I have to say I am thoroughly enjoying it so far.
Alexandra's Rowan is incredible. Alex is an amazing actress and I always love watching her bring life to her roles. The relationship between Rowan and Ciprien is very intriguing and these characters have lots of potential to develop in season two.
I join other people's criticism of Lasher. I think the actor does a good job but the shoemakers kind of made him appear unappealing somehow.
Overall, I enjoyed the first season from start to end, which is why I'm giving it a 10.

Alexandra's performance is overlooked. The actress takes you down with her to the bottom of her depression and makes it very relatable. It's the sort of agony that encompasses you. You can really taste it and feel it with her. Superb acting.
I personally haven't read the book, but I feel like this is a very artistic portrayal nonetheless, and hopefully true to the the author's intent.
For me it was a great movie to watch while I am myself feeling in a bit of a vacuum and it helped me process my emotions as well.
It truly deserves a higher review score.
It also helps that she is so gorgeous it literally hurts to look at her.

As a non-German speaking individual, it took me quite some time until I could get my hands on this film, but I am so glad I did.
The first thing that is formidable about this film, in my opinion, is the pace. The story starts from a familial encounter after a tragic event, and unfolds backwards. The fact that you slowly peel away the history of the family following the death of its father pours a lot of profound beauty into the story.
Each story, each argument, each tragedy slowly unfurls and brings meaning into the relationships of all the characters. The slow, village scenery brings a melancholic, yet elegant taste to the film as well.
Each of the actors did a great job portraying the story. Nowadays when Emily Cox has become so widely known for her role in the last kingdom, her wealth of emotion and range comes as no surprise. I am curious and would like to explore her other films as I'm sure she has done a great, enjoyable performances, as she has done in this film, in many other places. Bravo!
If you haven't watched this film, I greatly recommend that you do. You won't be disappointed!
